Chapter 15: Enlightenment for the Youth

Chapter 15: Enlightenment for the Youth

Samantha puts her phone down on her bed then sits by the side of it and stands up. She walks towards the door and opens it. Outside her door, she finds her maid standing.

Her maid says to her, “Your dinner is ready, and your dad wants you to video call him after you have eaten your meal.”

“Why? What’s the problem?”

“I don’t know. He said it’s urgent.”

“Ok, I’ll call him later.”

Both of them start to walk down the stairs to the second floor. When they arrive, they walk towards the dining room adjacent to the kitchen. When they finally arrive in the dining room, Samantha sees her plate of rice that has been prepared and a plate of omelette with cheese which is her favorite.

Her maid says to her, “Eat, our princess.”

Samantha replied, “I told you that I, myself, would prepare the plate of rice.”

“Your father insisted that we would prepare it for you. We’re sorry, but we’re just doing what we’re told to do.”

“Ok, fine. Do you have soup?”

“Yes, it’s on its way.”

As they were talking, a bowl of soup was carried by another maid and set on the table.

“Here’s your soup, Sam.”

Her yaya nods at the other maid, and then the latter leaves.

“As I’m saying, here goes your soup.”

“Thank you.”

Both of them sit down on the chairs, by the table, adjacent to each other. Samantha then proceeds to eat. She first pours out the soup onto her rice and spreads out the rice. She now begins to eat the rice and omelette interchangeably. While she is eating, she looks at her maid with their eyes locked together.

“Have you eaten, yaya?”

“Not yet.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’re still eating.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means the master has to be served before the servants.”

“Well, we are all still human beings. Let’s eat together.”

“Although I want to or even if you want to, I want to serve you first before myself.”

“Are you ok with that?”

“I’m ok with it. Even though some parts of me don’t like it, it’s the way of dignity and honor.”

Samantha then goes back to eating while her maid reads a book. Sometime later, Samantha finishes her meal and looks towards her maid.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

“What are you reading?”

Her maid gets distracted by her, puts the book down, and looks at her.

“I’m just reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”

“Oh, I really like that book.”

“I really like it too, so far. Don’t spoil it for me though, I barely read half of it.”

“Oh, I almost spoiled the book for you if you didn’t warn me hehe. Nevertheless, it’s a great book.”

“Don’t spoil it now for me, girl. I am already invested in this venture.”

Samantha giggles and then stands up to leave.

“Young lady, remember your father.”

“Yeah, I’ll remember him in memory.”

Her yaya looks up at her and says, “Real funny, lady. Call your father.”

She nods and says, “I’ll.”

“What does that even mean?”

“It’s an abbreviation of ‘I will’.”

“That doesn’t even qualify as good grammar.”

“I’ll make my own grammar, yaya. Haha”

Samantha then walks towards the stairs and climbs them with her feet. When she arrives on the third floor, she goes to the door of her room. Before she can reach the door, her brother gets out of his room and stands in front of her.

“What is it, buddy?”

“I just want someone to talk to.”

“About what?”

“About the war.”

“Oh, about the war between Lingera and Icrane?”

“Yeah, can we talk to my room?”

“Of course, Manny.”

She holds his hand and they proceed to walk to Manny’s room. Manny walks to his bed and sits on it while her big sister shuts the door behind them. She walks towards the bed and sits on it beside him. Manny is bowing his head down while her sister looks at him.

“What do you want to know, Manny?”

Manny looks up and says, “Why do people have to die?”

“Sometimes, people are too ambitious and other people will be harmed.”

“Why is there suffering in the world? I mean, why does God allow evil?”

“Well, do you remember Adam and Eve?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, when they fell, we also fell with them. The consequences of their disobedience and sin are death, suffering, pain, crying, sorrow, and destruction. It’s because we are fallen that we hurt each other.”

“It’s sad.”

“If there is sadness, there is also happiness. Don’t focus on the shadow, focus on where the light shines.”

“Is there a God? It seems that he doesn’t exist because of the suffering and evil in the world.”

“It isn’t God’s fault that there is suffering and evil, it’s ours. Let me ask you something.” Manny nods at Samantha as she says, “Suppose there is a run-down house, would you think that there is no one who created it just because it’s run-down?”

“No, that would be stupidity.”

“Well, the same goes for God and his creation. Just because our world has suffering and pain, doesn’t mean no one created it. Our world is created by him because nothing can create itself. It is our fault that our world is so corrupted.”

“How could I know that there is a God?”

“Let me ask you again.”

“What is it?”

“Did the painting make itself?”

“No, there is a painter who painted it.”

“Good answer. Did the building build itself?”

“No.” Manny looks at her and says, “There is a builder who built it.”

“Let me ask you again.”

“Uh-huh.”

“Did the creation create itself?”

“Um, I suppose not. Someone created the creation.”

“Then that is the proof that God exists. If there is a creation, there is a creator.”

His brother is wide-eyed and says to her, “Wow, I never thought about it like that before. I needed that, big sister. Thank you very much.”

He hugs her big sister and she wraps her hands around him, hugging him tightly. As they are hugging, tears stream down her face. After a while, they let each other go.

“Oh, I’m really sorry, big sister. I made you cry.”

“No, it’s fine, these are tears of joy. I’m happy that we had this conversation. I never would have thought that I would have a seeker of truth as my brother.”

“Aww, thank you, big sister.”

She wipes her tears off her face with her dress, takes a deep breath, and lets out a sigh. She then looks at him with a smile on her face.

“Do you have any more questions?”

“No more, big sister, since you answered my questions squarely.”

She puts her hand on his head and says, “Keep on pursuing the truth, fearing nothing about what the consequences will be.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

She removes her hand from his head and stands up.

“Well then, you don’t need me anymore, so I’m heading back to my natural habitat.”

She walks towards the door and opens it. She turns back to see Manny and waves at him. And Manny waves back.

“See you shortly, big sister.”

She chuckles and says, “See you shortly, Manny.”
