Chapter 11 - Stir up trouble

Chapter 11 - Stir up trouble

Malfoy had some experience in making basic potions.

The potion in the cauldron turned a pleasant blue.

Snape immediately stepped forward and took the potion from Hoare's hands. Before these noble students went to school, they would preview all courses except for spells until they mastered them, to avoid disgracing Slytherin and their families.

Snape snorted coldly.

But to his surprise, the student named Henry William was not just proficient; he was almost expertly skilled.

He even knew that before adding the hedgehog quills, he had to remove the cauldron from the flame to prevent the potion from dissolving the cauldron and producing corrosive substances.

Before long, a pink smoke rose from William's cauldron. He then bottled the potion, sniffed it, and took a small taste.

"You added moonstone?" Snape's tone was certain.

"Yes," Hoare replied calmly.

"Moonstone can enhance a potion's properties, but few use it to reduce brewing time. Do you know why?" Snape's tone was not pleasant.

"Because it can catalyze the potion's properties, and if not brewed in time, it can cause a potion accident." Hoare knew this, and he also knew he could handle it.

"Is your head full of knotgrass? Do you think you're powerful enough to do whatever you want?" Snape's expression was very unpleasant.

"I can do it," Hoare's tone was enough to infuriate Snape.

Snape gritted his teeth, and just as he was about to lash out, a sudden acidic green smoke filled the underground classroom, accompanied by a loud hissing sound.

Snape quickly turned around; it was Neville from Gryffindor.

His cauldron had cracked, and the potion spilled onto the stone floor, burning holes in the students' shoes.

Within seconds, the entire class was standing on their stools. When the cauldron overturned, Neville was drenched in potion, and now his arms and legs were covered in painful, red boils, causing him to wail in agony.

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

"Idiot!" Snape roared, waving his wand to clear the potion from the floor.

Poor Neville had just stumbled into the line of fire.

Taking advantage of Snape's diverted attention, Hoare ran to the materials cabinet to grab some supplies. Malfoy tried to speak up but was sent to help Zabini's group by Hoare.

Zabini and another Slytherin were in a group, and their potion was already emitting a strange odor.

Hoare then began his own experiment, a new idea he had.

To be honest, when he found out he was a Squib, he had this idea, but at that time, he only had the idea without the ability.

Now, he had the ability.

When Snape finished dealing with Neville's accident and turned back, he saw Henry William, whose head was supposedly full of knotgrass, with a cauldron emitting a faint golden glow.

"What are you doing!" Snape was furious. Was there a troll in Slytherin this year?

The Prefect competition was resolved with fists, and he learned the details the next day.

As he approached and saw clearly what William was doing, Snape raised his wand, "Stop right there!"

He was so angry he was ready to clean out William's cauldron.

"Professor, I know what I'm doing," Hoare hurriedly stopped him. It was a critical moment, and if Snape really cleaned it, he would have nowhere to cry.

"Hah!" Snape sneered, "Am I hearing a troll speak?"

"Don't worry about it," Hoare's eyes were fixed on the cauldron, counting the seconds in his mind.

"Hah!" Snape's face was turning the same color as his robes with anger, "Very well! Due to William's outstanding performance, he has earned himself a detention!"

"Professor, don't be unreasonable," Hoare's tone seemed resigned to the person in front of him.

Snape usually wouldn't directly discipline students, but he could no longer suppress his anger.

He approached with his wand raised, and saw Hoare add something to the cauldron. The potion began to change, emitting a faint fragrance, the scent of Lumos Herb.

"You wasted one of my Lumos Herbs!" Snape said through gritted teeth, lowering his wand.

It was likely a mistake by the senior students organizing the materials, mixing in the Lumos Herb.

Hoare had noticed the seemingly ordinary herb when he first grabbed materials.

Lumos Herb appeared ordinary but was very rare, only harvestable during a full moon with light rain, or it would wither instantly.

He only had a dozen or so in stock!

"Professor, materials are meant to be used," Hoare stirred the cauldron with his right hand, while his left hand sprinkled a light green powder along the stirring path.

It was powdered bat spleen, something Snape, as a potions master, could recognize at a glance.

Snape was so angry he was almost calm.

He wanted to see what Henry William could produce!

Snape's voice was like a snake's, cold and sharp, "Hah. Since you're so boastful, let's see what you can actually make."

Then, Snape's tone shifted, "Potter! Why aren't you watching him? Do you think his mistake will make you look good?"

A bewildered Harry walked over, "Professor, I…"

"If William fails, both of you will lose points!"

"And you'll both clean the Potions classroom by hand for a month!"

Harry looked at Hoare in confusion, and Hoare was also a bit puzzled.

Head of House, your move is quite bold.

"What if I succeed?" Hoare asked without looking up.

"You're not trying to…" Malfoy muttered from behind.

"What do you want?" Snape snorted, not believing Hoare could succeed.

"I want regular access to the Potions classroom and materials, and the potions I make will be mine." Hoare had just finished speaking when he heard Malfoy gasp.

"Fine." Snape didn't expect Henry William to make such a request. Although he was like a troll, how bad could someone who loved potions be? He agreed.

Of course, it was also because Snape didn't think Hoare would succeed.

After the bet was made, Snape cast a reverse protection spell around Hoare and Harry to ensure the cauldron would only explode within that area.

The surrounding students were stunned.

That was Snape, after all.

Even the first-year students present had been warned by family or friends not to offend Professor Snape in Potions class.

Otherwise, the consequences would be dire.

The pain on the faces of those who gave the warning was almost tangible.

And now, someone dared to confront Professor Snape directly! This was incredibly bold!
