Chapter 34

As Hiro and Caesar’s troops began to push forward, Kaura and her unit continued to attack the main force from the rear. Just then Hiro’s detec t presence ability sensed something moving in behind him very fast. He turned and used his improved vision. He saw the liger riding hobgoblins. They were headed straight for Foria and her archers.

This is bad! They won't know what hit them. They will be slaughtered!

“Caesar, Hold the line!”, Hiro yelled. “Leo come with me!!”

“Yesssir!!” replied Caesar

Leo ran over and they headed straight for Foria and the archers who appeared to be unaware of the danger that was approaching. As he ran Leo came along side of him and Hiro jumped up on his back and they moved at max speed. The world seemed like a blur as they were moving toward the desperate situation.

Hiro began screaming, “Look out behind you!” but they were unable to hear him.

He watched in horror as the group finally recognized that the liger riders had come up behind them but it was too late. The shining blades cut through the troop effortlessly.

“NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!” screamed Hiro as tears filled his eyes.

Amaterasu attacked and killed several of the riders but she was being wounded as well.

Hiro finally got their and saw that the archers were falling quickly at the hands of this vicious mounted unit. Hiro dismounted.

“Leo handle the ligers and I will handle the hobgoblins” said Hiro

Leo roared and the ligers became confused. Their training by the hobgoblins was being countered by their alliegance to their alpha male coupled with Leo being the Fire Liger King this his pull was even more powerful. This pause in the action was all Hiro needed.

Hiro immediately began using all of his skills to confuse and attack the hobgoblins. He used his evil glare to instill fear in all of the hobgoblins. Several were frozen in place others fell from their mounts but assumed a fighting pose. He used his spell ice blast freezing 2 of the hobgoblins in place. He then smashed them to pieces with his sword. He moved on ducking under a sword slash. As he ducked he sliced right through the leg of one of the hobgoblins and then stood up decapitating it. His bloody blade began to glow as he released his red lighting slash. 8 of the hobgoblins were charred in an instant. There were 15 left.

Amaterasu growled and rushed to Hiro’s side. He cast a healing spell on her and the sword wound she had began to recover. She was still wounded by she was no longer bleeding. Leo continued to roar and the ligers began to respond. His influence began to free the ligers form their capturers control. They began to shake free from the riders and attack them. The death of the riders was quick and bloody if they were not cut down by Hiro’s blade they were ripped apart by the teeth of the ligers and Amaterasu’ fangs.

“I’m sorry my friend”, said Leo. Hiro looked over and he saw Foria lying on the ground.

She was not moving and her body had a lot of blood on the ground beneath it. Hiro could barely sense her ki. He dropped his sword and shield and ran. He grabbed her in his arms and peeled off her armor.

Good there are no wounds to her torso. That means her heart should still be beating.

He listened to her chest and felt under her nose to check for her breath. She wasn’t breathing and her pulse was week. He cast his healing spell but nothing happened. He cast it again and again but nothing happened.

Hiro screamed out in pain, “NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!”

He kept casting his healing spell over and over. Hiro was panting now and breathing heavy as using his healing spell so many times had drained his energy. Leo and his pride put their heads down while Amaterasu howled showing her pain.

Leo held Foria’s body close and kissed her forehead. “I love you”, he said softly then he laid her down.

Then suddenly, she gasped and took a large breath. She coughed hard and blood spewed from her mouth.

“You are alive!” Hiro said with his eyes full of tears. “Don’t ever scare me like that again.”

Foria could do nothing but look in his eyes. Hiro could see everything that he needed to know from that one look. He knew that she loved him and that she was so grateful for him saving her. Hiro could no longer cast his healing spell so he gave her healing potions until Foria was no longer bleeding. As the blood stopped her breathing gradually became less and less shallow. Finally, she strong enough to speak.

“Hiro, my love, I thought I had lost you.”

“I will never let something like this take you away from me. Rest now” he replied.

Amaterasu whimpered and licked Foria’s face. Foria smiled at her friend’s gesture. Weakly smiled and slowly raised her hand to pet her head.

“Amaterasu, I will be fine” she said in a whisper.

Amaterasu continued to lick Foria’s face. Hiro knelt down and brushed Foria’s hair from in her face and smiled.

“I am glad you wore that armor. I think it saved you today. Don’t worry I will put an end to this here and now” said Hiro as he stood to his feet.

The look of rage and pain on his face was intense. His eyes were red from weeping. His face was covered in blood and soot from the battle. His chest was heaving.

I will not rest until they all die! I will end this! Never again will they bother us!

Hiro grabbed his sword and shield and began to meditate.

I need to regain my ki so that I can attack at full strength.

His ki began to regenerate quickly as he meditated. After a few brief moments it had nearly completely returned. Hiro activated his ki. His anger raged and his golden aura burned brightly around his body.

“Will you help me finish this my my friend?” he asked Leo.

Leo roared and the rest of the ligers roared along with him.

“Leo please get your ligers to take the wounded to Rain and the rest of the magical unit.”

Leo roared and the ligers bent down near the wounded. Hiro picked the up and placed them on the backs of the ligers.

“Amaterasu, take care care of her and get her to Rain and the magical unit care her, while we destroy the rest of these monsters?”

Amaterasu howled in agreement. The ligers and Amaterasu rushed the wounded to the magical unit. Immediately they ran to catch up with Leo and Hiro. Once they met up the group rushed to the battlefield.

When they returned the human forces were still holding their own but the tide of battle had changed more towards the hobgoblins.

“Hiro shouted to his group, “Charge!”

The ligers immediately made an impact on the battle. They began to rip apart the hobgoblin infantry. Hiro rushed out in front of his army’s formation.

I am going to kill every last one of you hobgoblins.

He slowly began to walk towards the enemy’s formation. His aura was so great that the enemy was afraid as he closed towards them. They could feel how strong his bloodlust was. He continued to walk forward then he raised his sword and shield and began to charge.

Hiro used his shield bash ability on the front line of the enemy. His shield broke that of the hobgoblin and threw the hobgoblin warrior back about 20 meters breaking the enemy unit’s formation. There were about 100 hobgoblins in the formation but Hiro didn’t care. He continued to slash at them. Each time he slashed his blade would penetrate deep into the flesh of one of the hobgoblins.

Hiro was so focused on the battle it was like he couldn’t see anything else but the enemy. He struck with such precision that the enemy began to think he was a god. Hiro began to use his boomerang shield abilty as well. He would avoid attacks, then throw his shield. While he awaited the shield’s return to his hand. His fighting skill coupled with his abilities and physical attributes made him an absolute nightmare for the enemy. He ruthlessly killed them one by one. Without recognizing it he had killed all 100 of the hobgoblins on his own. He also did not realize that he had taken a substantial amount of damage due to his recklessness. He stood there covered in blood panting with tears in his eyes.

You have gained 100 weapon skill points.

He ignored the status updated. All he could think of was Foria’s mangled body. Leo came to his side as well as the ligers. Every one of them had some wounds but they were all prepared to continue fighting. A warm glow came over Hiro and felt his strength return to him. He looked around and all of the beasts had the same glow. It looked back and saw Rain. She and her unit must have cast a healing spell on them. Hiro lifted his blade and his troops rallied behind him. Leo roared helping to rally the rest of the ligers. It was time to finish this battle and destroy the rest of this Hobgoblin army.

Hiro’s army began to advance towards the cave. His anger continued to boil over as he stormed towards the last of the hobgoblin’s army. As they stormed towards the cave Hiro felt a very storng power residing deep within the cave. As he and his units dispatched the the remaining hobgoblin warriors several trolls and 2 more figures came from within the cave.

The trolls were adorned with large 2-handed swords and very little armor. Their hulking muscular bodies were a deep green in color. All of them had large fangs protruding from their lower jaw going up almost to their noses. The largest of the group had a large ring pierced through his nose and an incredibly large axe. The blade of the axe appeared large and sharp enough that it could cut a tree down with one swing. Their legs were covered with animal skin boots and pants that were in laid with the teeth of various wild beasts.

The leader had the same boots and pants but he also had a shiny metal gauntlet. They all looked formidable but Hiro felt no fear at this point he continued to move forward. He told the army to a halt while he, Leo, Caesar and Gori moved forward. The group of trolls numbered 7.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

“How many can you take?” Hiro asked Caesar.

Caesar replied, “Gori and I can take 2.”

“Great! Then the rest are all ours right partner?”, Hiro said with a sinister smile.

“GRROOOOWWWLLL!” Leo replied loudly.

“Are you serious Hiro?! This is madness! You have no idea of the fighting strength of those trolls and you want to take on 5 of them and you are injured.”

“You haven’t seen us at our maximum strength yet! Just watch and see.”

All of the ligers backed down while Leo approached the trolls with Hiro. Gori and Caesar charged 2 trolls and the battle began. Gori engaged the the first troll while Caesar took the other. The troll began to swing his large sword. It cut Gori on the arms and chest but Gori’s movements were so agile that the troll was unable to land a fatal blow. Gori’s defense kept him from being damaged too much but he was being cut repeatedly.

“Now!” yelled Caesar.

Gori then grabbed the trolls arm as it swung the large sword. Then using its powerful arms, it broke the troll’s wrist causing it to howl in pain dropping the sword. Gori then used a judo-like toss and flipped the troll over onto its back where he began pounding the troll’s face and chest. Blood began to spout from the troll’s body and eventually it stopped moving.

Gori let out a roar and pounded on his chest. Meanwhile, Caesar took another approach. The troll attacked Caesar ferociously but he blocked each and every attack the troll made using his hammer.

“Damn this thing is strong. I’ve gotta do something” thought Caesar.

His arm began to go numb from the force of the blows given by the troll’s attacks. His body was in pain from the shock that reverberated through his body each time the troll struck his hammer. Then he saw it, a chance to counter through the troll’s barrage of vicious attacks. Caesar charged in narrowly dodging the troll’s attack then he swung his massive hammer with all of his might. The attack smashed into the troll’s ribcage completely breaking it. The impact was so massive that the troll was flung like a bullet into the wall of the cave. As it struck the wall of the cave it left a large crater where the troll’s blood splattered all over the place. Gori and Caesar were victorious but both were riddled with wounds from the battles with the trolls.

Leo and Hiro began to battle the remaining 5 trolls. Leo roared and the trolls charged. Leo went after 2 of the trolls. His speed was incredible. He avoided all of the troll’s attacks. He began to confuse the troll as he moved. To the trolls it appeared as if there were numerous copies of Leo. They were unable to distinguish between the real one and the the after images. He saw an opening and attacked biting one of the troll’s legs. His powerful jaws crushed the bones of the troll’s leg. It howled in pain and then tried to punch him. Leo released the troll and jumped away avoiding the attack from the troll. The damage had been done. The bite from Leo immediately poisoned the troll. Even though it had a great regenerative ability the poison rendered it ineffective.

Leo continued his onslaught as he lept at the 2nd troll but it blocked the slashing attack from his paw with the blunt side of its sword. The troll kicked Leo in the head and he flew back about 15 meters. He was bleeding from his mouth. Leo licked the blood that streamed down his jaw. Leo qucikly returned to his feet and was clearly in some pain. The troll’s were definitely physically strong.

The troll charged just as he made it back to his feet. Just as the troll began to swing its axe, Leo took in a deep breath and let it out. The breath he let out was his flamethrower. The troll was immediately set ablaze. The troll fell on the floor writhing in pain. Its screams only intensified as Leo’s blue flames ate away at its skin all the way down to the muscle and then to the bone. The troll finally stopped moving as it expired. Leo roared as he won he defeated his enemy. Then he turned to the one who he had poisoned earlier.

It then charged at Leo violently swinging his large blade. Leo was able to deftly dodge the attacks but he was unable to mount a counteroffensive.

“How can this thing still be attacking at this speed when I poisoned it?” Leo thought to himself.

The speed the troll swung the blade increased. It increased so much that Leo was unable to follow the blade. The troll slashed at Leo as he tried to dodge but the tip of the blade cut into Leo’s face from the top of his head all the way across his face. The blood got into Leo’s eyes momentarily blinding him. The troll took full advantage of the moment and troll bashed him in the head with the hilt of the sword. Leo crumbled to the ground.

The troll let out a howl and raised his blade ready to strike the final blow. Leo jumped to his feet to avoid the blade as it plunged down to the ground. Leo was bleeding heavily from his head and the troll charged swinging his blade but Leo was able to dodge but the troll continued to swing his sword. He was stuck avoiding the troll’s attacks. Leo waited as the troll came closer and close with his attacks, then when the moment was right he breathed fire on the troll again. This time his attack did not completely miss, it landed on the troll’s arm. The troll’s arm was charred off completely. Leo then slashed the troll with his claws that had been imbued with his poison ability.

With even more poison in its system its regenerative ability could no longer hold it back. The troll began to breathe heavily. The deadly poison was already working and the troll dropped his blade and fell to his knee. The troll was now virtually defenseless as Leo approached. Leo stood over the the troll and open his jaws wide and bit down on the troll’s head. The head came of in Leo’s massive jaws and the troll’s body fell limp and lifeless. Now Hiro stood in front of the final 3 trolls which included the most powerful of the group.

Hiro continued to move forward while the trolls raised their hands. In Hiro’s mind all he could see was the deep pain he felt when he held Foria in his arms as she lay on the brink of death. The blood from her wounds was still on his hands. His anger boiled over. He screamed out and charged the trolls. His prediction ability allowed him to see the attacks from the first 2 trolls but the more powerful one made no attempt to attack.

The trolls came at him but Hiro ducked under the first troll’s attack and used his boomerang shield ability to sever its leg at the knee. The troll fell to the ground screaming in pain. While he awaited the return of his shield he blocked the other troll’s attack with his sword. His strength was overflowing. The troll’s strength seemed to pale in comparision to his own with his ki strengthening technique active. His shield returned to his hand and he bashed the troll in the face with the shield causing the troll to fall back on the ground. Hiro then took his blade and drove it into the chest of the troll whose leg he severed. Then he moved to the one that he knocked down with his shield bash.

The troll made a pathetic attempt to swing its blade at Hiro but he easily parried the attack and severed the troll’s arm. Hiro then moved his ki to his leg and stomped the troll’s head, crushing its skull completely. Two trolls dead and only one remained.

Hiro pointed his blade at the final troll and said “Come on! You’re next!”

The most powerful of the trolls snorted in disgust at the human’s pitiful taunt. He raised his axe and ran at Hiro. Hiro charged the troll as well. Hiro’s prediction ability was going crazy.

There are 5 attacks coming simultaneously can this troll produce so many attacks at once? I'm not going to wait to see what this troll is capable of. It will have to deal with my attacks first.

Hiro charged in. The troll’s attack happened all at once. All Hiro could do was hide behind his shield. The attacks hit his shield with such force he was knocked back and his arm went numb and coughed up some blood.

His axe must have done some internal damage to my body from the shock I received blocking the attacks.

Hiro smiled and regained his fighting pose. Hiro waited for the next rush from the troll.

I can't let him take the lead on in attacking, I have to take the fight to the troll.

He rushed the troll and cast his fire at its legs. The troll jumped back but it was off balance. Hiro then charged into the troll with his shield. The axe that the troll wielded was pinned to its body. Hiro then used his ice blast attack to freeze the troll’s arm that was holding the axe. He then kicked the troll in the chest and it flew back about 10 meters. Its arm was completely frozen and it could not longer wield its axe.

Hiro began to charge as the troll tried to stand. With no way to defend itself Hiro charged his red lightning attack and released it into the troll’s weakened body. The attack hit its target and the troll was electrified and burned simultaneously. It dropped to its knees and Hiro quickly slashed at its throat severing its head from it body. The head fell off and the body fell down with the chest facing the ground. All of the trolls were dead and all that were remaining were the 2 hooded figures that stood at the cave entrance.

Caesar and Gori joined Hiro, Amaterasu, and Leo. All of them were bloody and injured from the battle. All of them had been completely exhausted but were ready to continue fighting. Then he looked up at the 2 hooded figures, Hiro could sense the power coming from them.

These guys are even more powerful than the trolls we just defeated. This is a battle that I should not take on with my people in this condition.

The hooded figures turned around and began walking away.

One of them said, "I could kill you now but this won't be any fight. Keep your life today young warrior. The Master wouldn't like if I killed you now."

[i] The Master? Who is that? Why are they leaving?

“Hiro, what just happened?” asked Caesar.

“I don’t know but based on what I felt, I don’t know if our combined strength would have been enough to defeat them.”

Hiro fell to his knees and began sobbing for all those who died in the battle. Caesar held his friend around the shoulders while Gori, Amaterasu, and Leo all lowered their heads. Rain began to fall on the battlefield.
