Chapter 31: First Strike
Hiro awoke to a dark sky filled with lightning and rain.
I better consult with Caesar, Foria and Leo as today would not be a good day to attack the Hobgoblins. The rain will make the ground moist and footing would be difficult making it much more difficult to battle the enemy.
He got out of bed and got his equipment. He then rushed over to the training grounds to get his early morning training. There he saw Caesar already hard at work. He was lifting a makeshift barbell. It was a long piece of iron attached on either side by boulders. Hiro looked at them they had to extremely heavy but he was lifting over and over. Hiro smiled as his companion though the same way he did.
Hiro went over to Caesar and said, “Good morning, do you mind if I join you?”
“No problem, do you think can you handle this?”, Caesar replied.
“I think I’ll be ok. How about we share work outs? We switch on and off. I’ll do some reps with you equipment then you do some with my hammer.”
“Agreed!” replied Caesar.
He picked up his weight and began lifting it over his head like a military press. Caesar’s muscles bulged in his powerful arms and thick chest muscles. Hiro removed the hammer from his inventory and began practicing fighting movements with the hammer as he was now able to wield nearly well enough to use it in battle. After a few moments they switched. Caesar went over and grabbed the hammer with one hand and lifted it up and began moving as if it was weightless. Hiro was in awe.
This man is amazing! How strong is he?
“This is a good hammer. I like it!” said Caesar.
“It’s yours!” replied Hiro.
“Seriously!? I can have it. Commander you are so generous!” replied Caesar.
Hiro then placed his hands on the bar and pulled with all his might. He pulled it up and then dropped his body down to a squat holding the bar at his shoulders. He then used his leg strength to stand up. Caesar smiled looking at the young man struggle. Hiro’s body was trembling as the weight of this thing was insane. Hiro then bent his knees slightly and pressed the weight over his head. His body was completely exhausted but he did it. He dropped the bar and he started panting. Then they switched again and again. After about 10 sets of each they both were soaked from the rain and exhausted.
Due to your rigorous training you have increased your strength by 30 points and vitality by 10.
Hiro felt good as he continued to push his limits his body would respond and grow even stronger. Hiro invited Caesar to meet at his home after he changed. Caesar agreed and Hiro left and changed his clothes. He also went to invite Foria to the war meeting. Then he decided that he must talk to Leo.
Hiro shrouded himself in his ki and ran at top speed to get Leo. His pride was huddling under the rock where he usually slept; however, Leo was pacing back and forth as the lightning struck in the scenery behind him. He looked very angry.
Hiro came up to his friend and asked him, “What is wrong my friend?”
Leo responded angrily, “Do you not feel them? The hobgoblins are out there and they are coming to take more of my pride.”
Hiro closed his eyes and used his detect presence ability. In the distance he could sense as Leo said some enemies a few thousand meters away.”
“Yes my friend I sense them. What do you want to do?”
“I want them dead!” said Leo gruffly.
“Then I will fight with you and crush them. Then when the rain stops we will take the army and finish the larger force.” Hiro replied.
Leo growled and fur began to steam from the heat he was giving off. He replied, “Thank you my friend. Let’s go then.”
Hiro equipped his wildfire armor, shield, and sword then mounted Leo. They sped off to where they felt the presence of the hobgoblins. Hiro stopped Leo as they observed their enemy from a safe distance from on top of a hill. There were 10 hobgoblins in all.
All of the hobgoblins they saw appeared to be warriors of some kind except one who had a bow. Some were close combat holding 2 swords, a sword and shield, or one two handed sword. They wore no armor leaving their bodies completely exposed. They were the same height as orcs but their physiques looked better-rounded. Orcs were simply strong with huge muscles and usually dim-witted and slow. These hobgoblins looked more intelligent and most likely much faster. Hiro used his analyze ability.
Hobgoblin WarriorType:Humanoid WarriorHealth:6,000 / 6,000Mana:0/0Hobgoblin Warrior: An agile warrior that has been trained since they were young to use various weapons. Their combination speed and strength make them a formidable enemy. These monster have high resistance to earth and wind but are week against fire and lightning attacks.
Hobgoblin ArcherType:Humanoid WarriorHealth:4,800 / 4,800Mana:0/0Hobgoblin Archer: An agile warrior that has been trained since they were young to use ranged weapons. Their eyes have been trained as well to seat greater distances and to develop superb vision in night or day combined with their climbing ability allows them to attack from the most advantageous positions on a battle field. These monster have high resistance to earth and wind but are week against fire and lightning attacks.
Hiro smiled and looked at Leo.
“No one can beat us in terms of speed right?”
“Leo roared saying no way! They mounted up and decided to attack together.”
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Using Leo’s speed they would surprise the enemy before they could form into ranks to repel the attacks. Leo used his Liger’s Roar and Hiro coupled it with Hiro’s icy stare. This struck fear and confusion into all but the most powerful of the group. As they got close Hiro activated his armor and he and Leo both were engulfed by flames. Then they charged straight for the enemies that were confused causing them to burst into flames. They slayed the hobgoblins one after the other. Those that were able to defend against the attack were burned by the flames. Feeling their power Hiro dismounted.
“Leo, you go kill the archer and I will finish off the rest.”
Leo ran away in a flash chasing the archer who was trying to climb a tree. The archer must have thought that such a large animal could not climb a tree but he was mistaken. Leo jumped on the tree and continued his chase. The archer was unable to fire any arrows as Leo closed in on him. When he finally got to a branch he could stand on he grabbed an arrow from his quiver and fired. The arrow bounced off of Leo’s armor like fu as he continued to chase his prey. Leo leaped to the next branch and fired his flamethrower. The fire destroyed the branch that the archer was standing on and it began to fall.
CRUNCH!
Leo bit down on the enemy as it fell towards the ground. His powerful jaws clamped down on the archer injecting with a powerful poison. The archer began to convulse as Leo’s poison coursed through its body in addition the wounds inflicted by Leo’s massive fangs were bleeding profusely as Leo shook him back and forth. Leo felt his body go limp and released him and he fell to the ground. Meanwhile, Hiro was battling the hobgoblins.
Hiro’s ki was running through his body providing a previously unknown level of strength.
I didn’t realize that the stronger I got through training without my ki would produce even greater gains when I began using my ki. Every movement the warriors made seems like it isin slow motion to. I don’t even need predict with an enemy this slow.
Before they could move he had slashed them. To the Hobgoblins he seemed like a demon. This man whose body was engulfed by flames slaughtered them one by one. Hiro continued his onslaught until there were only 2 left. Hiro released the flames from his armor of wildfire.
I can speak to them because I have learned the skill so maybe I can get some information before they die.
Hiro asked them, ”Why are you taking the ligers?”
They ignored his words and attacked with their axes but he quickly avoided the attacks and bashed one of them with his shield. It blocked the attack with its own shield but Hiro’s strength sent it flying into a tree. The impact made it spit blood out of its mouth and then it was knocked unconscious.
Hiro turned to the other hobgoblin and ducked under its attack then smashed the pommel of his sword into the back of the hobgoblin’s head. It hit the ground hard. Hiro stood and activated his enslave ability. The hobgoblin looked up with a blank stare and said, “Yes, master”
The hobgoblin’s face had a completely blank look to it.
You have enslaved the hobgoblin. It no longer has any free will. It will do whatever it is that you ask of it. It is completely loyal but unable to think for itself.
Hmmm… This ability is not something I want to ever use but this time it is necessary.
“Why did you and your group try to capture the ligers?” asked Hiro
The hobgoblin replied, “We needed mounts to fight on and the ligers were the strongest animals.”
“Why did you need mounted units?”
“Our leader wants to take the human city nearby so that we can have a home instead of living in a cave”, said the hobgoblin.
Just then Leo jumped in and asked, “What was going on?”
Hiro told him what the hobgoblin said.
Leo shook his head and they looked at the hobgoblin.
With anger in his eyes, Hiro said, “kill him and eat the rest!”
Leo bit his head off and swallowed it. Hiro went around and collected all of the weapons from the rest of the hobgoblins they had killed and placed them in his bag while Leo ate the bodies.
Ding!
You and have gained the passive ability improved sight. Now you are able to see a greater distance and your night vision has improved.
Ding
You and Leo have gained the passive skill wind resistance. You are now able to resist wind based magic without taking much damage. As this skill improves you may be able to make yourself immune to wind.
While he was collecting the weapons, he sensed the one he had knocked unconscious start to escape.
This might be a good time to try my new ki blast technique on the goblin.
He straightened his arm with the palm facing the goblin then grabbed it at the wrist with his left hand.
He breathed deeply as his ki began to collect in his hand then he said, “Fire!”
The blast from his hand came out as a white ball of energy traveling extremely fast. It struck the hobgoblin in his back and went straight through him leaving a gaping hole where his torso used to be. The hobgoblin’s body fell lifelessly to the ground. Hiro’s technique was a success.
Now I have to figure out a way to speed up the technique so I can use it in battle.
Ding!
You gained 10 points to your weapon skill.
“Leo, come back to the town with me so we can discuss the plans with the others and plan our battle strategies.”
“I can do that but I want this to be over. So once you make your plans, I want this finished. I want my people free. If you won’t go with me, I will free them by myself.”
“I get it but you won’t have to fight alone regardless”, said Hiro with a smile.
The two shared a look between them that each other knew what it meant. It was a look of respect and honor only shared by those who have shed blood together on the battle field. Hiro climbed on Leo’s back and the began riding back towards the town.
