Chapter 9

Emerging from the train doors and hurrying out into the maze of Shibuya underground subway was Pro, quickly moving past the busy network of males and females alike. She met where she usually waited for her friends to walk to school; a vending machine by the wall. Arriving at that spot now, she saw a taller Gachi and two kids coming her way!

"Shijunko-san!" One was formal and had her hair tied back in a ponytail and her eyes colored teal.

"Shijunkoooo!" The other was crass and had her short hair curly and fluffy, and her eyes a deep blue.

Separate they were weak but combined they had enough force to knock Pro over. Strength stronger than a dragon, a scary thought.

"Be careful girls! Pro there is delicate."

Pro sat up rubbing her head and looked at the woman who looked like an adult version of Gachi, her sister. Still dressed very formally in a white suit and blue tie with her hair cut short and curly at the ends. She was old but still looked youthful, free of the ills older women caught like stress lines. She was Sylvia Momomeno, or well Sylvia Montpelier, now married to a rich man from overseas. From what Gachi explained, she returned from her business trip and was now here to stay back in Japan. All the details seemed so shoddy but Pro wasn't one to question business affairs.

"Pro-chan!" Gachi called out. "Look look! It's my sister and her kids! Aren't they great?!" She wrapped her arms around the twin blonde girls wearing matching grey frilly dresses.

"You're so loud!" Charlotte, the ocean blue eyed twin, cried while being squeezed in Gachi's unbreakable grab.

"Not as loud as you." Raquel, the teal eyed twin, said with a toothy grin.

"Ok ok be nice you two." Sylvia then turned to Kyokai and Pro. "I hope you all have been taking care of yourselves well. Gachi couldn't wait to tell me how the school changed around and stopped their bullying."

Pro nodded slowly. "Yeah… it was nothing." Nervously looking away sweating and hoping Gachi didn't tell her the parts about them fighting dragons or the yakuza, both stories too embarrassing to tell a person that wasn't in the know to understand. Quickly changing the topic, now that Sylvia was back home Gachi was going to spend all day with her like the sis-con was. Her love for her older sister bordered on incest, maybe an exaggeration but it sure felt like it. Pro and Kyokai waved as they walked along or more so, Gachi dragging Sylvia to show her around after being gone for so long.

Now left as a duo, they continued moving through Shibuya underground to find a spot where they could transfer unsighted, however they would pass by an event that they stopped to watch.

Cocoa, dressed in casual wear, a white buttoned shirt and pink coat with a yellow skirt and white shoes and an older man, presumably her father by his matching blue and black hair, dressed in a white suit and blue tie. The scene was that of abuse.

"You're such a disappointment! What are you doing around here slacking around? You should be at home studying. Failing only brings bad reputation to my name!"

Cocoa sneezed and pulled a tissue out of the box she was holding. "Sorry Dad- I mean Sir. The flowers in our backyard got me really sick and--"

"Don't give me any of that bullshit!" He interrupted, "I sent you to Nokken, the best school in this shitty city so I expected you to be the best. How are you going to lead in my position if you're not on the top?"

Looking downward and wiping her nose, she muttered, "I… don't want to become Prime Minister…"

Her father snapped his fingers in her face and gestured towards his ear. "What was that? Speak up! I hate when you say things quietly like your mother. I don't want you to end up becoming as useless as her."

"Please don't…" Cocoa sneezed and changed what she was going to say. "I'm sorry sir. I'll head back home."

Her father nodded firmly. "Good. Don't be as useless as that deadbeat woman."

In Pro's mind she figured she could use the superdimension to change him. Or even better yet, stop him right here with her magic. She didn't know Cocoa had it this bad, and it was the student council's duty to ensure its students safety. But how far did that line extend to? Meddling in family affairs without being warranted to? Kyokai tapped her shoulder and whispered, "Pro I know what you're thinking but I can't do anything, not yet at least."

This lifted some tension off Pro knowing her friend understood just as well as she did. When the two passed, Cocoa's father eyed Pro, noticing her gaze was on him. "Looking for an autograph? Tough luck. I'm busy."

Cocoa looked at Pro then shook her head remarking the same, "You're an eyesore." And she walked off just like her father did.

"Father like daughter a-am I right?" Kyokai tried to joke to lift the mood.

Afterwards their exploration began. They transferred unsighted behind an advertisement sign for 'Legend of Heroes: Trials and Cold Blade' the latest installment of the Heroes RPG. Though there were few people around, their narrow view of the world before them made it difficult to be aware of what was around them. With more than the usual around the transfer felt more distorted than usual and a certain rushè would get caught up in their little secret…

Instead of the dense forestry, they now found themselves on a flat grassway pathway that led only forward as far as they could tell at the moment. That didn't mean trees weren't around, no, as usual plenty of trees and ruined buildings surrounded their sides. The poisonous flowers Cynthia warned them not to touch were now littered everywhere. On leaves, tree roots, they were like weeds but also not as ugly as weeds. Upon feeling light rain touch his hair, Kyokai flipped his black windbreaker's hood up.

"Naturally occuring weather..?" The rain thankfully wasn't acidic or different from the rain in the regular world. Pro did the same with her hood and watched him open up a transparent window to type away on.

"The magic here is off the charts probably due to these flowers so my range is limited. I'm not sensing any life signatures around this area so we'd best get moving before we lose that cat you're looking for." he swiped away the windows with a vague layout of the area around now in his memory. He mentioned there not being any monsters around either, only the shadows of various random people roaming about. A few of them they encountered. Grey husks of humans just moving forward without a destination in their thoughts. Pro could push them around as she pleased, smack them around, or kill them. These were the so-called free thinkers of society, but underneath they were the sheeple of Shibuya.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Unknowingly far behind them was the error that presented itself in the superdimension. That is, Cocoa, who freaked seeing all the otherworldly beings and terrain. "This is S-Shibuya? Is anyone here!?" She shouted out and felt her mind slowly lose sanity.

Instead of a person coming, a dark green horse with horns and red eyes approached. No life, just killer intent. The creature rushed to ram Cocoa but just before the strike, a swift slash cut right through the shadow, defeating it.

The light haired musketeer sheathed her estoc and turned to Cocoa who had panicked and fainted. "Aw jeez… I guess this isn't the right person we're looking for."

Her partner went to Cocoa's side and picked her up, "No, but 3 others are here. Just up ahead."

The light haired musketeer motioned for her partner to follow. "We'd best hurry--!"

Before she had a chance to sprint ahead, she hopped back as more demonic horses appeared from the shadowy ground and flowers. "Hoh! This is getting ridiculous. We'll never catch them in time!" She drew her estoc to begin the battle.

As for the council members. They searched high and low for the cat Pro needed to find. Digging through foliage and in some cases, climbing a tree to get a better view of things. It was like trying to find a needle in a haystack except the haystack was a dense jungle. It was going to be impossible to find a small cat here.

"So no cat there either huh? Well I may have found it." Kyoaki stepped back as Pro hopped off the tree branch and landed beside him. He moved the command window at his fingertips and pointed in the opposite direction at a path they've yet to take. "Let's hurry because I also detected a powerful signature there."

As told, they sprinted down the path. The effects of the flowers started to show as the duo was significantly more tired than they were before when they first entered. After a bit of running they had found their target at a dead end where thick leaves and branches blocked the path, and the black cat ran into nearby bushes upon seeing them.

"You're kidding me…" Kyokai stopped to catch his breath. Suddenly the ground shook beneath them with each step a large creature took. "Just great… prepare to attack!"

Pro and Kyokai drew their respective weapons as a dragon that emerged from the dense forest, knocking over trees that stood in its way. The beast before them was an axehead dragon. It swung that horn swiftly with ease, cutting down a nearby tree in one slash just to show off its strength.

Kyokai flinched. "Ok. Pro what's the plan?"

"Don't get hurt and killed." Pro simply said. This wasn't much of a plan…Nonetheless, Pro began the attack with her simple fire magic and Kyokai swiped his hand down to bring up windows that had the enemy's stats. Most were hidden but its HP was shown, and they had a lot to deal with here.

He grabbed the windows and threw them like his chakram. All 3 shattered like glass on impact, putting shards that periodically drained the strength of the beast. Enraged by this, the dragon raised its head and slammed its axe down, shaking the ground and nearly killing Pro and Kyokai had they not dodged in time. The dragon attacked again by rushing forward to ram them with its horn.

Both Pro and Kyokai dove out of the way, and due to their sapped strength, it took awhile to return to their feet. They couldn't risk getting hit otherwise their injuries would be too great to continue on. Pro needed to strike hard and to do that she needed to concentrate all her magic into her hand. Having Kyokai distract the dragon while she maneuvered to its side and aimed with a finger gun. She remembered back to what she told Hinata when they confronted each other in the hall, how confident she was in her abilities now.

She flashed a smirk and exclaimed, "Betfire!" And out from the tip of her finger was an explosion of fire that burned flesh and pushed over the dragon making it fall to its side. With the beast staggered, the two attacked at once, hitting where Pro melted its skin. Kyokai with his chakram and Pro with a rather weak fireball. This severely wounded the dragon but yet it stood back up.

"That combination wasn't so bad." Kyokai cheered.

Pro nodded. "Yeah! Let's try to do it again–-" Suddenly her heart skipped a beat and she fell to one knee.

"Pro!" Kyokai exclaimed, concerned for her health. "I'm fine! Just finish the battle!" Pro gripped her chest to make sure her heartbeat was still regular, which it wasn't.

Before he had a chance to begin their turn, a person swiftly rushed past the three and jumped onto the beast, stabbing it in the head before jumping off. Pro's mouth dropped seeing their kill stolen by this… female in red, dressed like royal guards in middle ages France. Like a musketeer, her feathered hat was tilted enough to not show her face.

"Who the heck are you?!" Kyokai shouted only for the sheathing of the mysterious person's estoc to be her response. He continued trying to speak to her asking another loaded question, "That dragon was ours! And how do you even know of this place?"

"I'm not here to fight. And your friend there, she's hurt." The light haired musketeer said. She squinted her eyes trying to get an arrangement of their faces under their hood. In her perspective their faces were blurred and distorted. "Take off that illusion spell!"

"Never happening." Kyokai responded. "And we're not hurt at all. Now Tell us who you are!"

The girl eyed Pro specifically and ignored his question again. "I suggest telling your friend not to use magic too much. You'll die from exhaustion if you do. Anyway," She held her hand out. "Let's work together! I'm sure you guys are looking for something here just as I am."

As if Kyokai was going to trust some stranger that helped them once. Cynthia's advice took priority over all others and that was to trust no one in this world. But they were here to help the girl Pro met in this world. Maybe, he thought, he could use her just to further their exploration for a bit then split after finding out more about this world. A temporary alliance, that is until--

"L-look out!"

The light haired musketeer attempted to draw her sword but didn't pull it out fast enough to deflect what was thrown at her. Not that she was going to win that clash since what was thrown was the dragon's corpse that crushed her flat.

Stepping on top of the dragon then sitting was a girl with short blonde hair with a single red streak on the side. She wore a poncho over her school uniform which made it impossible to see what school she came from. Though by her appearance, it didn't seem to be anyone they recognized from Nokken.

"My my… I didn't know others outside of those knights came here. Tell me, where is the shining medallion?"

Fear started to seep in and neither had a clue about what she was talking about. Their strength was completely drained at this point and they needed to escape fast before this girl attacked. But she didn't, instead touting, "Foolishness. I'm not wasting my time on you." And that was all. She turned and walked away without any more words.

They then heard a small meow and looked behind them at a black kitty. How cute but now wasn't the time to fond over its looks. "I need...that cat."

"Huh? Be careful." Kyokai warned.

Pro lifted the cat to examine its features. It let out a small meow which gave her a chance to see its many sharp unnatural teeth. So this was the Masked Girl's cat. Pro wondered if her mask hid like… crazy eyes. Kyokai dropped a sweat watching Pro hold the cat.

"Pro..?"

"Our job here is done. Let's go home." They transferred back to the real world which was in the evening then went their separate ways home.

Pro entered her bedroom at night and turned on the room light as that kitty entered. What caught her eye was a letter leaning on her window that the moonlight shone down on. She snatched the letter and read:

Well done hero! You completed your task without any problems. You may be wondering why I'm not there to get my cat. Well, I was thinking you should keep him. His name is Nanimonai but I like to call him Monai. Hopefully he doesn't cause too many problems for you. After all, a witch needs a cat familiar or… that's what I at least read in books. I'm looking forward to what you'll be doing next!

There was no name signed at the bottom but it was too obvious who this was. Pro frowned and looked at Monai who took It's spot in the bedroom corner becoming one with the shadow there. Guess he preferred the dark.

Pro fell back onto her bed not ready for what the next day may bring.
