Haa, I finally got to post another chapter, sorry for the lack, I had to do some stuff.
Sadly I cannot increase the chapter length by much since I simply do not have the time to write :/
Anyways, enjoy the chapter everyone. ^^

CHE.
"Fine, if you want to have it the hard way so be it."
I lift almost the entire weight from my body so I only weight around 100 kg and chase after him.
He reminds me of Rachel charging through everything on his way. Luckily the school had been further out of New York City or this would have been a nightmare.
I could not imagine the destruction he would have caused running along New York's high traffic streets. It would have been total chaos. Not that I would've minded too much to be honest but it would be bad if that happened during my first real "mission".
Reinar may be fast but he's nothing against my full speed. As such I quickly catch up to him.
While he is running in long jumping strides I take swift quick steps to not lose traction on the ground.
Currently we're pretty much running through a grassy field heading for what seems to be a small forest area. It's lucky since it could've ended badly if anyone figured out that a police officer was hunting a student at a couple miles per hour.
He showed no signs of stopping any time soon so I had to fulfill that part.
After I was only five feet behind him I leaped for his back.
Crashing into something that felt like steel concrete I cling onto his back. He didn't even budge or lose his balance for even one second.
"You actually think you can outrun me?" I shout at him. Yeah, I need to work on that arrogance.
Then I increase my own weight since it is easier and faster than attaching a new hotspot to Reinar.
"Gru?"
Reinar slows down considerably after noticing that a 6 ton anchor had attached itself to his back.
Have to hand it to him though. He was still running, though his feet sank deeply into the ground.
I sling my arms around the plates of his neck and extend my head to his ear.
"Reinar stop now or I will crush you. Your armor seems very hard but everything can be crushed by gravity and nothing can stop gravity from taking effect."
"Graaaaaa!"
It seems like he lost any way of communicating because his mouth had hardened too. But he definitely was angry.
"As you want"
Since it could get dangerous for me if I simply increased my own weight at some point I start to collect black matter and attach it to his back to slow him down. This is a more efficient but also slower process because I have to create the hotspot on his back while it is already existent on my own body.
After accumulating over 3 tons on his body he was holding the 9 ton on his back and still running. Though his feet left craters in the ground as they sunk into the earth.
He kept going though.
Very well. Slow and steady my ass.
With that I strengthen the hotspot to assemble black matter as quickly as possible.
Sweat starts forming on my forehead although being cooled down by the wind pressure of Reinar's run.
It is more effective to have a quick increase in weight to pull somebody down but more can go wrong too.
It was a success though and on Reinar's next step his whole leg disappears into the ground and he falls over just before we pass the tree line.
Oh shit.
I was flung off his back and thrown into the ground too. Both of us bounced off the wall a couple of times leaving huge marks behind us. As dirt and splintered trees exploded around me I increase my own pull to stop the crash.
It works and I sink into the ground due to my insane weight of multiple tons. But while I was only around 7 tons heavy he probably had a multitude of that on his body which probably made him sink into the earth even further.
I had forgotten to harden my own body before impact so everything hurt. Luckily it was only that and I had not broken anything or received a grave wound.
Decreasing my own weight I limp out of my hole and walk towards him.
He had created a crater around eighty meters away from my own point of impact. Everything behind us was destruction. Our path had left dozens of trees halved and splintered. The ground looked like a warzone. So much for not leaving any evidence.
Looking into the crater Reinar had caused I find him struggling to stand up lying on his back like a turtle. After he sees me the struggling stops and he takes a defensive stance... considering the circumstances.
"I told you, you should not have run or fought. If you end your transformation I will stop the force pulling you down ok? But if you go right back into it afterwards I will double the weight."
"Through his grayish mask his eyes look at me with anger. Then submission"
His body starts emitting the smoke from before and the bone like plates disappear. While that happens I stop my power. Though I do not scatter the hotspot since I still wanted to gather black matter on him if possible.
What remains is a scared boy sitting in a crater a couple feet deep with ripped clothes.
He looks at me with pleading eyes.
"Can't you let me go? Please I did nothing wrong. Espers are no bad people. I don't belong to any organization. I just want to live a normal life."
My face grows hard.
"I cannot do that and I understand you more than you think. But considering everything I need, then it's better to hand you over to my superiors. Accept it. Hate me if you must but take revenge on me at some other point in time."
"If you are a esper yourself, why did you look at me with such disgust? Is the will to live freely really something to hate us for?"
"SHUT UP"
I snap back at him.
"The end justifies all means boy. I have nothing else to say to you. Wait here."
With that I increase the weight on his body so he can barely move or talk.
Just as I get ready to pull out my phone it starts ringing.
Hmm?
Confused I look at the screen. It's Viktor, does he instantly know that I finished the task?
Who knows?
I answer the phone but before I can ask anything Viktor's stressed voice carries over to me.
"ALEX, come back right now. We're in big trouble, our American Base is under attack. I don't know the details, just get back home I'll tell you everything I know when you get there. NOW!"

He closes the call and leaves me dumbfounded.
Wait? What?
Only one week after we left and just at my first assignment we get attacked?
What is this shit?
I look back at Reinar lying buried in dirt.
Viktor hadn't said anything about him.
A smile spreads across my face.
"Today is your lucky day Reinar. I've decided to let you go."
Hope gleams from his eyes and I lift the entire weight off of him.
Instantly he jumps up and smoke leaves his body.
"You hurt me a lot and then you simply say you'll let me go? What was that call just then?"
Asking questions to the one that could probably capture you again? Not the best way of leaving alive...
"I feel funny so I'll tell you. I was called back by my superior because of reasons you needn't know. All you need to remember is that I could go back to base after throwing you into confinement. But I decided against it because I feel pity on you and I like your way of thinking.
In this kind of world you'll find a lot of people thinking like this thought most of them will probably not say it out loud.
I think the same as you actually but I've decided to live without doubt. Remember what I said before Reinar. The end justifies all means."
I smile at him. I'm actually really happy to be able to let him go. I hope though he hides somewhere else now. If we had been able to find him then the military would probably not be far behind.
"What group are you from? You don't seem like military since they probably would've send more people than just one. So? Wh-"
I interrupt him.
"Don't press your luck. I won't tell you anything. Think what you want and don't you dare to tell anyone about me. If someone asks about the police just tell them it was a misunderstanding. That should be enough. I need to get going now.
I won't hunt you until I get told to do so."
With that I turn around... crap. I don't have any clue where I am.
Ha..h....ah...haaaa.
"You're not from here aren't you?"
Behind me Reinar was watching me weirdly.
"shut up. I'll just walk back the way we came from."
"Ha. You really aren't the brightest light bulb in the house aren't you?"
Come again?
"You got a death wish Blondie?" I'm insanely pissed off... he had just called me stupid.
Reinar takes a step back and shakes his head.
"Nonononono, sorry I didn't mean to insult you. But you really should not go back the way we came from. Pretty much everyone that saw the chaos you caused on the parking lot will come running this way from that direction.
I owe you I guess so I'll lead you to somewhere you can get back home easily."
Damn it. Haaaaaa
I sight in silent acceptance.
"Fine lead the way."
"Great!" exclaiming that he starts walking into what seems a random direction.
"There is a bus stop not too far from here, if you follow the road you'll get back to school through other means... Although people will look at you because of the uniform."
Who cares. I don't for starters.
"Where are you from?" he wants to start some kind of small talk with me as we start jogging.
"Jamestown." I told him not letting out any more information.
"Sounds like a small village to be honest. I lived my entire life in a small village in the outskirts. Then we moved to the city where we are now. It can get really hard.
How did you get so strong?"
"..."
"Oh come on. I forgive you for trying to imprison me. Tell me some stuff about yourself."
What is this guy?
"Reinar. You might have forgiven me but you shouldn't forget that if my superior tells me to hunt you down I will do exactly that. So don't try to be my friend. I would sacrifice you for my goals."
That should shut him up.
"I know I know. I just have never met another esper. Of course I heard of them but most of the ones that are in hiding never meet anyone else. I manifested when I had first lighted a smoke. I can control steam and fume. Though I can mostly use it only to harden my own body since it's hard to make it physically touch something after hardening it. How did you manifest?"
"Killed my parents at the age of 8."
"Oh..."
Yes oh. Now shut up and leave me alone.
"I'm sorry to hear that. That's probably how your organization found you isn't it?"
"Reinar. Please do not ask more. I don't like to think about certain things in my life. That memory is one of them. If you where one of my old friends I would've loved to talk about the time after that because someone helped me during that time but you're not. You are simply someone I feel pity towards. Do not pull things out of thin air and think that I like you. I feel pity towards you, nothing more."
His facial expression changes to acceptance.
"Fine. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to intrude in your life." with his hand he motions into the distance.
"There is the road you need to follow if you want to go back. Good luck with everything."
Wow I'm an asshole.
Sigh.
"No, it's me that should be sorry. That was too harsh. You're a nice guy, I owe you one. Hopefully we meet under better circumstances next time. Bye Reinar."
Without looking back I start sprinting into the direction he showed me, leaving the dumbfounded boy behind me.
"There is only one person in my life" I mutter to myself while remembering the blond girl I had fallen in love with.
It doesn't matter for now.
Hurrying back I wonder what had happened at the base.
Maybe it was the thing Karif had been so fearful about.
A twisted smile extends on my face.
Things where finally getting interesting.
