Chapter 20: I'm the Decoy?!

Chapter 20: I'm the Decoy?!

"A mansion? Wouldn't a place like that be heavily guarded, two people seems a like bit under-staffed for this mission."

"More people would just end up attracting more attention, don't sweat it, boy, this old man got a plan that will probably work."

I am beginning to worry about my safety the word "probably" only deepens my fear but, I can only get excited when the thoughts of heroicly storming a castle flood my brain. I do not have much gear, to begin with, so I pack only the bare minimum of supplies. Dues is pretty experienced so he should be able to deal with any problems that arise, right?

I spot Dues outside the base making some preparations for our journey, I also take note of the transportation he has arranged for us: two horse with a small carriage attached to the back. Well, we are acting as thieves it is best to blend in, a grander mode of transportation would definitely warrant suspicion. Dues spots me and calls out to me.

"Boy, you finally ready? Hop on already we ain't got all day."

I approach the carriage and get on with Dues. the inside of the carriage is actually pretty cramped, so I will be smacked up against Dues for this whole trip, hopefully, this mansion is not too far out. Dues kills that dream, unfortunately.

"The journey will take three days during the night we will set up camp and rest before traveling again be prepared for hours of boredom boy."

Three days?! That sounds like it going to be such a pain this carriage is way too uncomfortable to even sleep in. Eventually, despite my constant moaning and preference for death I managed to survive the journey, nothing noteworthy even happened. I was so bored that I prayed that something interesting would happen like getting attacked by monsters or bandits. My prayer went unanswered perhaps because I have the laziest god ever.

Dues hoped out of the carriage and started stretching. He ties the horse down to a nearby tree and castes some sort of magic that covers their whole bodies.

"We will proceed the rest of the way on foot, the horse could get scared off by the battle that's about to unfold."

"What do you mean by battle? I thought we were sneaking into the castle to steal the stone."

"You are only half-right I am sneaking into the castle to steal a few stones meanwhile you are attacking the guards to cause a distraction."

Being the decoy, how lame! I will play the role, for now, however, I will not forget this. It seems even Dues isn't above tricking me.

I step over and join him down below. We walk together toward a town which, Dues has informed me is completely controlled by the Royals. When we step through the town I feel a strange pressure run through my body. It feels like the pressure is trying to weigh me down however, it is not strong enough to stop my movements only hinder them. None of the townsfolk seem to be affected am I under attack?

"What you are feeling right now is the main reason the Royals are still in power, the four their four highest knights by combining over 500 skills are able to create a gravity field that affects all who bear malice toward the Queen, since a normal soldier would be crushed by the pressure we are unable to invade a lot of their important cities, however, to our advantage the constant shield has made their defense inside the barrier lax. The mansion is deeper in the city, we will be invading in one hour. You will attack the front and distract as many guards as possible after I have succeeded in taking the stones I will meet up with you and aid in your escape."

"That plan sounds especially dangerous for me you know."

"You will be fine, I made this plan so there is no way it could fail."

An hour passes and I prepare for the battle by equipping the only sword I got, good old Hope.

"That's rude master I am not that much older than you," Hope's voice echoes in my head. Oh, I forgot she could read my thoughts I will have to be a bit more careful from now on. I depart and head directly toward the front of the mansion it is less grand than I would expect from a Royal, this Royal must be from a lesser family or something.

The mansion is painted white with frilly gold leaf designs around the sides. In the front yard lies a slightly larger than life statue of a man who I am assuming is the owner of the estate. I can only imagine the look on his ugly mug once we pull this off. Surrounding the mansion is a large black fence with several guards patrolling the perimeter. Well, Dues wants me to create a distract so bigger is better right? I hide myself behind a tree think of a way to draw all of their attention at once.

"Hope we are using the Ultima Blade"

I begin to amass energy, after a few minutes it is finally ready. My target is the front gate destroying it certainly should attarct them all to me. I releasing the energy toward the gate and expodes with a satisfying boom. Mission accomplished wait, not yet I still have to fight the army of guards running toward me with hate and rage in their eyes.
