“Hey Hound?” Jim said.
“Yeah?” I replied.
“Is this the end?” Jim asked.
I hesitated. “Only if we don’t play our cards right.”
“They’re coming. It’s too soon Hound. We still have hundreds of years more to live,” Jim said, beginning to cry.
“Let’s get a good night's sleep, Jim. We have a war to win tomorrow,” I told him.
Jim sniffled. “Ok,” he replied.
I walked with Jim away from the campfire to his house. Many others were going inside as well, presumably with the same plans as us. He went inside and shut the door, a single tear still falling across his scaly cheek. I heard soft sounds of sobbing as I walked a few blocks away to my house. I went inside and lay on my bed, waiting for sleep to come. It came slowly and peacefully, letting me drift off to the mother rather easily and peacefully for once.
When I awoke the next morning, something was off. All the humans were rushing toward the blast doors. I followed them and found Jim and some of our warriors marching toward the door too.
“Jim, what’s happening?” I asked.
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
“The portal opened last night,” he stated. There was a long moment of silence between us. Armageddon had finally arrived.
“We’ve decided to make our final stands here,” Jim told me.
“We will die as warriors and good leaders,” I responded.
We nodded to each other and continued through the facility before eventually making it to the blast doors on the other side. They opened slowly, and I could just barely make out a massive portal made from hellish fire. When the doors fully opened and we went outside I quickly thought, “Why didn’t we just go around the building?”
Some demons had already made their way out of the portal and were approaching the T.H.C. headquarters. The mounted turrets began firing at the flaming pink demons. Jim, the other Atroxians, some random humans, and I charged at them fearlessly. Jim shot at many demons with his submachine gun, stabbing others as he ran across the battlefield. I ran up to one of the demons and punched it in the face. It turned its head back towards me and stared me straight in the eyes. Then it slapped me. I pulled my shortsword off my belt and stabbed it in the gut. I pulled my sword back out and stabbed it where its heart should be. It instantly turned to stone.
“Guess I’m not getting that sword back,” I joked to no one.
I continued across the battlefield, boxing with demons until they eventually faded away. The demons just kept coming and coming and coming. It was practically endless. Eventually, a slightly larger demon came out from the portal. It was Bael the Wildfire. The demon lord that crushed Atroxis III. When I saw him I almost began foaming at the mouth. I clenched my fists.
“FOUND YOU COWARD!” Bael shouted.
Every soldier I could see raised their weapons, including me. We were ready for the real battle to begin.
