Chapter 5: Apotheosis

Chapter 5: Apotheosis

We marched to the gigantic building that said T.H.C. on its massive walls. I had commanded my soldiers to charge our enemies. We were both prepared to win. I was sure we were more determined. And yet I still lost. My army suffered heavy losses in the beginning, but I sliced my way to the back of their army. I had shredded more metal and flesh than any of the fleshlings that day and I had found the leader female.

“YOU!” I shouted as I threw a shortsword to her feet.

“I think you missed Lizardman,” is how she replied to my challenge.

“Will you not accept my challenge weakling?” I had asked.

She picked up the sword. “I will accept your challenge.”

“Good. I will eviscerate you,” I had told her.

I threw my blade towards her, aiming for her skull. I had the chain that was attached to the end of the blade wrapped around my wrist. She somehow managed to parry, throwing my blade to the side. I whipped it around, attempting to slice through the sides, but she somehow parried again, this time flinging my blade toward me. I was forced to dodge my weapon, and it embedded itself into a remnant of a vehicle behind me. She rushed towards me slicing across my chest, piercing my armor. I punched her in the face, launching her into the wall of their base.

“WHAT IS YOUR NAME YOU WEAK FLESHLING?” I shouted my question at her.

“My name is Hailey,” She said as she got up, “I’m not going to lose this time.”

“In your language, I am called Hound,” I said, ripping my blade out of the chunk of metal.

I rushed her, attempting to wrap the chain around her neck. I missed my target, instead wrapping it around her left arm. She jabbed at my arm and it pierced my skin. I punched the side of her head, unwrapping the chain, and pulling the sword out of my arm.

“YOU ARE VERMIN TO BE ERADICATED FEMALE,” I shouted, my bloodlust and rage overtaking me. I slammed my chain blade into the ground, unwrapping the chain from my arm. “I WILL GO EASY ON YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE WEAK.”

“I’m not weak,” she said, gasping for breath, “I am stronger than you, lizardman.”

“NO,” I shouted, refusing to believe it, “you are the weakest, dirtiest vermin I have ever seen.”

She jabbed at the hole in my armor, this time piercing my scales. She hit my sternum, and I began to bleed a little. She ripped the blade from my chest and I picked her up by the throat. She jabbed at my eye, but I turned my head in time so she barely nicked me. I had just a scratch, but I was seeing red in half my vision. I dropped Hailey onto the ground. I kneeled down, covering my bad eye with my hand, complaining about the immense pain.

“MY FUCKING EYE,” I screamed at her, “THIS SHIT ISN’T GONNA COME BACK ASSHOLE.”

She stood up and shoved me further to the ground. I was now sprawled on my stomach. “Do you surrender?” she had asked me as she drew her weapon. I pulled my chain blade out of the ground and attempted to whip it towards her once more. She parried with the short sword and put her weapon between my eyes. I shoved it away, attempting to hit her with what little confidence I had left. I missed all three times. She slashed my chain blade through my abdomen and I was left on the ground once more. She pointed the weapon at my shaking body.

“I guess,” I said before coughing up blood, “I guess I must yield. You may kill me now.”

“I’m not going to kill you,” Hailey told me.

“Please do. Let me die honorably.

“You get to live. So that you can continue governing your people.”

“No. Don’t spare me.”

“You spared me. I owe you this.”

“Fine fleshling. Have it your way.”

She left me there the mud blinded, bloody, broken… alone……

But.. she came back. She didn’t just leave me there. She reached out her hand, to lift me out of the mud. In my weary state, I accepted without hesitation. I don’t remember what happened after that. But I passed out, and when I woke up…
