The door of the library opened and a little woman with a girl entered.
Eduard, the librarian, looked up from the book in his hands and greeted both. Afterwards he cast his glance downwards again.
"Hey, Eduard. Could you give us the key for the cultivation section?", asked Amelia and smiled at the man.
"Sure, wait a second.", without looking up from his book he opened a drawer and handed Amelia the key.
"Thanks. See you.", Amelia turned around and headed into the labyrinth made of bookshelves.
"You are welcome."
The little princess followed her guide through the library past hundreds of bookshelves and millions of books within them.
"You seem quite familiar with the librarian. Is there a reason?", the girl asked interested.
"You mean Eduard? You know, he was my junior.", Amelia winked at Liticiya.
"Oh, really. He isn´t very talkative. He always only answers with the minimum required words."
"Haha, he was always like that, don´t think to much about it."
As soon as they passed the history and geographic section Liticiya turned around and wanted to head inside unconsciously. After she learned reading she wanted to learn more about the continent, or rather the other races.
Unfortunately, there really was extremely meager information about those races. Almost everything she found in the entire library was told her by her mother already. Actually, nobody knew anything about Pandonica, the demon continent, not even how big it was. The powers of the demon race were unknown too, every single demon who immigrated to Justoria had her or his powers sealed. Some people said that those are actually no emigrates, but exiled ones.
The only thing Liticiya found out was that the demons started their raids 5 years ago and would come in fixed intervals, but nobody could stop them. A war report from 4 years ago showed a disastrous defeat at the side of the human forces. Thus the humans had to endure and flee as soon as possible if a black ship could be seen on the horizon. Also, nearly every demon who had immigrated fled into the mountains, because they feared they would be accused of something. Unfortunately, they were right, the demons who didn´t leave were mostly interrogated and afterwards executed, because they could be spies.
Only the bravest human merchants dared to trade with the demons since the first raid, but those who had the courage and were successful could make unbelieveable profits. Nobody knew why the demons havn´t run over the entire continent yet, it was almost as they only needed the humans and a lot of creepy stories originated from gossiping. Like the demons would torture the humans and ate their agonised souls.
Of course Liticiya was interested in this and couldn´t think of any particular reason why the demons would do these things. She naturally wanted to find it out for herself, but she knew that she wouldn´t have the slightest chance to survive there if she traveled now.
Since she couldn´t find anything about the other races and had much free time, she began to study the continent she lives on, the major kingdoms and empires and naturally common sense.
Every country was hierarchically structured. The nobles could do almost everything they wanted to the commoners. Other than her former world democracy didn´t exist, slaves were also natural.
Her own kingdom was a small one. It had three neighboring countries, two in the north and one in the east.
In the north, on the left side there is the Opalia Kingdom. The Opalia Kingdoms is twenty times as big as the Justoria Kingdom. It´s known as the most powerful kingdom on the entire continent and had a history which goes back to the beginnings of humanity. The country is famous for their vast wilderness and mountain ranges which is inhabited by wyverns and few dragons. The military even established a wyvern squad, they tried to tame the more intelligent dragons too but failed.
Another famous thing about the country is that it is the origin of the hunter guild which had branches in every bigger city. The hunter guild is for cultivators who want to live on their own, independend from a country or a sect. The guild offers them jobs such as monster subjugations and securing the safety of merchants.
The last mentionable thing was the Worldtree sect ,a sect for the geniuses of the geniuses. Every royal family wants their children to enter this sect. Every year there is an entrance exam which is made up of three different tests, nobody knows beforehand. Only one percent of the participants are able to pass the first one of those three tests and in the end it is not rare that no one is able to enter, it isn´t even rare that no one enters for a decade. This sect was naturally Liticiya´s dream institute, like everyone elses.
Fortunately Opalia had a friendly relationship with Justoria stabilized through the economy. Justoria had great interest in Opalia´s metals, because Justoria had no mountains and Opalia was interested in the sea products and the occasionally traded products from the demons. The relationship is even more firm since Roselia has become Lucas wife. Roselia is the third daughter of the reigning king.
On the right side in the north is the Fortress Empire. This empire doesn´t have deep roots on the continent. It rose to its power as the second most powerful country in the last three centuries. The former emperor started from a little fortress inside a forest, where the capital is now located, and expanded the territory rapidly. The name itself never changed and is the legacy of the first emperor.
Under the reign of the second emperor the expansion didn´t stop, but not too soon, some people began to revolt and tried to get their countries back. Thus the emperor had to concentrate himself on those matters too, and the waging of wars began to stagnate.
Since the grandson of the first emperor has taken over the throne the wars stopped completely, because he made domestic affairs his first priority.
The territory of the empire consists of a great desert with a gigantic oasis, a forest and a plain with a lot of lakes. On the oasis there are several towns located. Each one prospers from a particular desert beast, which is raised as livestock. These beast´s meat is precious for cultivators and under the circumstances that humans are able to rise the beasts, the meat is much less costly than other meat of the same quality.
In the east there is the Lieon Kingdom. It is as big as Justoria, maybe a bit bigger. That Kingdom and the Justoria Kingdom are like peas and carrots. The current kings are childhood friends and consult each other over every important matter. Even Liticiya´s mother is a princess of Lieon, thus the king of Lieon is her father´s brother-in-law.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Naturally there are some other little kingdoms far up in the north where the snow never melts, but those are rather unattractive and unimportant.
The cultivation section was separated from the rest of the library through a locked door, so that Liticiya was unable to enter.
"Here we are.", Amelia put her hand inside her pocket, pulled the key out and unlocked the door. As soon as the door swung open Liticiya stormed inside and looked up at the gigantic bookshelf which was decorated with extremely exquisite ornaments.
"Which one can I pick? Which one is the best?",Liticiya immediately asked, but when she turned around her body stiffened.
Amelia´s aura had turned to that of a predator who had found its prey and would jump on it anytime. But her facial expression didn´t match at all, she had a smile over her whole face.
`Is she an assassin?! No, she emits no killing intent..´ Nevertheless Liticiya´s mind went blank under Amelia´s aura.
"Ehh, Amelia?"
Then Amelia leaped forwards, but instead of death´s embrace the little girl found herself in Amelia´s.
"Ah, I can finally cuddle you."
Liticiya didn´t know what happened anymore, seconds before she almost produced a puddle because of the suppressing tension, but know the atmosphere was as pink as possible.
"You have grown so much. I can remember every single time I fed you. That time you were so cute and now you have become even cuter.", Amelia rubbed her cheek against Liticiya´s and rolled with her on the floor.
As soon as the little girl regained her composure, she tried to push Amelia away from her to stop the almost deadly embrace which got tighter from second to second.
"Hmm, why are you trying to push me away?"
"I..I..ca..n`t..br..ea..t..h.", the little girl somehow managed to choke those words out.
The moment Amelia heard Liticiya´s words she immediately let her go and put on a worried expression.
"I am so sorry. I was just so happy to see you again. I had to work and missed you so much. I went overboard…"
"It´s…okay..now.", Liticiya breathed heavily.
`Amelia behaves like a child who found a toy.. I hope it doesn´t end up to the point where I have to dress myself up like a doll…´
"Ah, well. I think we should start with a basic technique created for royalty.", said Amelia who still looked worried.
As soon as Liticiya heard what Amelia said she looked up with expectations.
"Hmm, where are those again? Ah, there. Liticiya, can you see the book with the red cover. That one is the one we need."
The little girl tried to reach the book, but it was located to high to take it. "I can´t reach it. I am too small…"
"Oh, let me pull it out of the bookshelf. Step aside.", when Amelia tried to reach the book she realized that she was too small too and scratched her head embarassed: "Wait a second, I will carry the ladder over here."
Liticiya, in the meanwhile, tried her best not to burst out in laughter. `Haha, the facial expression of her in the moment she realized she can´t reach it too.´
Finally, Amelia reached the book and pulled it out, then she said: "Let us sit down over there Liticiya, I already prepared a nice spot to learn yesterday."
The woman pointed with her index finger at a big, white, fluffy cushion which laid in the corner of the room. Both sat down, but Amelia lifted her off the ground and sat her on her lap and began to cuddle her again. Then she almost opened the book when she remembered something.
"Well, your mother said that you never ever learned anything about cultivation. Is that right?"
"Yes, although I always wanted to learn. She said that my mind wasn´t ready…"
"Hmm, that is right. Then I will begin to explain the basics first, afterwards we will start reading.
Even though you didn´t learn anything regarding cultivation you will probably know the source, the soul cage. Am I right?"
"Yeah, that much I know."
"Well, first of all humans can control up to 4 elements, fire, earth, air and water.
Commoners are only able to control one element each. Normally a child of a commoner will inherit the element of the mother if the child is a girl and the element of the father if the child is a boy, but it happens rarely that the child inherits both elements. Then it is highly likely that he or she will get adopted by a noble family.
Nobles are able to control up to 3 elements. Normally only dukes and their descendents are able to control 3 elements, but it is possible that a child of a lower noble class inherits 3 elements of its parents. Commonly he or she will marry into a duke´s family when he or she will become an adult.
The royal families are able to control all 4 elements, like you. They are normally jack of all trades and master of none.
If a duke´s or noble´s son or daughter is born with the control over 4 elements he or she would be able to marry into a royal family, but that never happened in the entire history of the Justoria Kingdom though."
Liticiya already furrowed her brows before, but only now Amelia recognised it.
"You look like you have a question Liticiya, tell me."
"Ehm, why don´t the royal family members specialize in one element? Is it not better to have mastered one?"
"Hmm…, well…, you see, the soul cage´s capacity grows exponentially with the mastery you have in one element. Thus a royalty has the natural advantage that his or her soul cage grows much faster than the one of a commoner. In the end a royal family member who hasn´t mastered an element has nevertheless more soul power than a commoner with a mastered element."
"Okay.., I understand. And what is with body strengthening?"
"That is something completely different than the elements and hasn´t something to do with you yet. It is harmful for children under twelve years to learn it.
Well, I think I mentioned everything you have to know for now. Let´s start reading the book."
