Chapter 171

“Ok, you know what? I was going to be patient this time around, but screw it.” Seeing that 2000 of his Javelins didn’t so much as leave a scratch on his enemies, James decided to just launch all ten thousand that he had left in one go.

Instantly, the sky was filled with Javelins. He couldn’t even see the targets anymore underneath the glowing crimson rods.

But while the sight of his crimson cluttering the sky was filling him with pride, another thought was nagging him. “Wait, 2000 thousand Javelins did nothing? How could that be? Usually, even a dozen would be enough to obliterate most enemies. Especially with how strong I’ve gotten lately.”

He was beginning to realize just how overpowered he truly was.

Even before he began hoarding mana like a maniac, his SARM and other abilities were just too good. He had taken them for granted for a long time, but now he could clearly see how frustrating these things were to fight against.

But no matter how overpowered he was, not even his defenses could resist ten thousand Javelins blasting at them.

There were so many Javelins that he couldn’t tell what was happening. But even if the doppelgangers were still dodging 95% of them, just 5% of Javelins landing would probably be enough to seriously injure them, if not outright kill them.

That’s why when the torrent of Javelins finally ended, it was so surprising to see all five of them standing, relatively unscathed yet again.

“Oh come on, you copied that too?” James spat out as he looked at the cracked but still not broken Chaos Barriers with the help of which the doppelgangers had weathered the onslaught.

Now it made sense why he was the target of so many villainous monologues. He actually felt a strong urge to make a deranged monologue too now that he was the one facing these annoying powers.

But something was wrong. Even he himself couldn’t remain unscathed after having thousands of Javelins coming at him. Especially now that he was at the height of his powers and his spells were even more devastating.

And yet, here they were. All five of them standing tall without even a scratch on them. The only hint that they were even involved in combat was a slight twitch.

“Oh, we’re twitching now, are we?” James involuntarily began cackling maniacally, much like the villains he often criticized.

As invincible as these guys seemed, they couldn’t be exactly like him. No matter how good a copy was, it was still just a copy. It couldn’t compare to the original. And that twitch told him all that he needed to know about these copies.

To win this fight, he’d have to make twitch. Twitch until they dropped dead.

“How about we check just how good you are at handling pain?” He might not have hurt them directly, but his spells were still damaging them. The spells they themselves were casting!

Sure, they could cast sacrifices and empower themselves with Reckless Abandon. But they couldn’t handle the pain the way he could. Nobody could copy that. He only gained the trait of being immune to pain after painstakingly torturing himself for many months. Not only would you have to basically be insane to gain that trait, but you also needed months of practice. And these copies definitely didn’t spend months torturing themselves.

“I’ll give you that, you’re doing a good job so far. Only a twitch. Most people would be rolling around in pain, I know how it feels. But we’re just getting started.”

He knew what he needed to do. They could play his own game, but they couldn’t beat him at it. Not even if there were five of them and just one of him.

“Try to copy this!” He screamed as he sacrificed 50 times.

Through bloodshot eyes, he began conjuring what looked like 50 Javelins per second.

Immediately, the doppelgangers sacrificed as well. Their faces contorted in pain, but dozens of Javelins began spawning around them.

The two sides immediately launched their Javelins, which clashed in mid-air.

The doppelgangers didn’t sacrifice nearly as much as James, but there were 5 of them after all. So even if each one was much slower at conjuring than James, their Javelins combined were able to rival James’s. Even with 50 stacks of [Reckless Abandon], James was barely able to keep up. If anything, he was even losing. Every now and then, a dark Javelin would crash into the barrier.

“Let’s see if you can keep up with the insanity.” James roared as he sacrificed 50 more times in an instant.

His eyes weren’t even bloodshot anymore. No, they imploded altogether. His eyes literally imploded from the sheer pressure of the 100 total sacrifices, leaving his eye sockets a bleeding mess of flesh.

But instead of feeling any pain, he was cackling maniacally. “How do you like me now?” James spouted cringy villainous lines as he conjured Javelins even quicker.

Even the doppelgangers that seemed so cold and emotionless before, now seemed to panic at the sight of the madman detonating his own eyeballs without a second of hesitation or remorse. But they knew they didn’t have the time to gawk, because the madman was spawning hundreds of Javelins a second, which instantly overwhelmed their own waves of Javelins. Some were already leaking through and were beginning to crack their barriers.

They instantly cast their own sacrifices, reinforcing their barriers and applying [Reckless Abandon].

With the additional wave of sacrifices, they were able to immediately match the onslaught of James’s Javelins.

But unlike the madman who was casting the sacrifices with a smile on his face, they felt pain in every single fiber of their being. Their hands and faces were twitching uncontrollably, to the point they were barely able to focus on casting their Javelins.

But they couldn’t afford to stop casting. If they gave the madman just a few seconds of respite, their fate was clear.
