"Princess, may I ask who this man is?" one of the guardsmen clutched his spear as the Sayuki and I came by.
"You will know when morning comes, Satoshi. Focus on your duties." Sayuki noticed him cautiously glaring at me, and responded with coldness.
The watchman furrowed his eyebrows, but he bowed and left us be. Then, the fox princess faced me, with a warm, patient smile. My dusty old heart fluttered. Could it be that she has already fallen for me?
He-he-heh. Even after three counts of eternity, my stunning good looks accompany me.
"Here. You can use this spare bedding." Once in her tent, she handed me a roll of fabric.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
I recalled hearing that the people of the East would sleep on thick sheets like these. I thanked her.
I hadn't eaten or slept for the last five days. My body did not need me to, and I wouldn't be able to sleep anyways while scared a small critter might come to bite me in the worst place.
Hence, it was specially comforting to lie under a warm, soft sheet, with a beautiful woman by my side. Even if we aren't that close for now, it filled me with a sense of peace.
"Magnus," she called for me, and I noticed her looking straight at me. We were but a few feet apart.
"Yes?"
"Could you tell me what Heaven is like?"
Her eyes were sparkling with interest, and I couldn't bring myself to tell her that I didn't really see much up there. So, I cobbled together a few stories from what I had eavesdropped the guards speaking about, and we had a nice chat before she fell asleep.
I felt like caressing her hair, and at first I hesitated --- it'd be very awkward if she were to wake up. But eventually I went with it. I softly patted her head, watching her cute little ears fold and stand up as she made adorable fox noises.
