II - Upriver

(Unlike the last, this chapter is read directly from Magnus' perspective)

The landing was all but graceful. Thankfully, at the last moment, I recalled the advice of a drunk, old brother of the White Fang: lush trees make great cushions for dramatic falls.

In the few seconds it took for my femur to fuse back together, I was far too busy gritting my teeth to wonder how he came to know that. And as soon as I found myself standing, I was thankful for his ramblings.

Immortality. It feels unnatural to even think about it.

I haven't had food nor water for longer than I can count, but my body feels as strong and as limber as always.

As for the healing aspect... it is my first time testing it out. I am inclined to believe that nothing can take me down now... But I will avoid guillotines and stakes through the heart, just to be certain.

Now... What to do? Hmph, it *has* been an eternity since I last courted a woman. And the wardens weren't precisely chatty, so I'd appreciate a conversation partner at the least.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

I pumped myself up, puffing out my chest.

Alright! To walk this forest until I find other people, it is!

(This is a scene cut, or a short timeskip.)

Urgh.

Trees, trees, and more trees. I have yet to see even a squirrel.

Was I unfortunate enough to land in the remotest middle of nowhere?

It makes me shiver to even consider it, but after walking nonstop for three days, I have come to fear mankind may be long gone. After all, if the castles of that celestial city became no more than pebbles in the span of all this time, what would remain of the cities I traversed with the White Fang? Specks of dust, perhaps.

Be it as it may, I will not give up. This body of mine should be strong enough to stand for as long as the sun continues to rise and fall. I will round the Earth thrice if I must...

That being said, I *would* appreciate finding other people sooner than later.

I thought I heard flowing water earlier, and I suppose it is the noise of a nearby river.

Not only am I craving a bath and a sip of fresh water, but if I follow it upstream, it is more than likely I will find some sort of settlement.

Let's see if I can make my way to it...
