Chapter 5: All for one

Chapter 5: All for one

‘This one looks like a fire gem,’ Silas thought as he came across another plant and inspected it carefully. The only thing it had in common with the previous one was the sweet fragrance wafting out from it. Silas used his claws to pluck one of the berries and threw it into his mouth. ‘Mmmm, this one is a little bit spicy,’ Silas thought as he swallowed the berry.

Hot juice entered Silas' throat and gave him a blissful feeling. ‘This is how life should be,’ Silas muttered as he closed his eyes. Back on the Blue Star, he never had the chance to taste such delicacies.

“Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.”

Seeing the notification that popped up, Silas felt happy. If I could find hundreds of such plants, maybe I could soon get enough evolution points to evolve…

Silas knew that his first priority right now was to evolve and obtain enough strength to move through the forest unimpeded. He didn’t want to be in a similar situation as today, where he was chased around by other monsters.

Right now, the only option for Silas to obtain evolution points was these fruits. Hunting other monsters was out of the question, as Silas was the weakest monster in the whole forest… Maybe there were some things weaker than him, but he hadn’t come across them until now.

Silas soon gobbled up a dozen of fruits, and similar notifications popped up:

“Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.”

“Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.”

“Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.”

...

“Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.01.”

“Blazebloom Berry consumed, Evolution points = 0.”

‘Mmm, onto the next one,’ Silas mumbled as he began to search for his next prey. His movements were like those of a seasoned hunter as he moved carefully, without making much noise, while keeping an eye out for any monsters that might be lurking nearby.

Soon, the sun began to set, and visibility in the area started to decrease. Silas had an inkling that night might be the time when some nocturnal beasts come out, and with less visibility, he was unwilling to get caught. So, he decided to end his hunt for today and find a good place to rest.

Today, his hunt was quite ‘fruitful.’

He was able to get his claws on nine different types of berries, including the Frostbite and Blazebloom Berries.

There were other types of fruits in the forest as well, but they all grew on huge trees, and Silas, with his current strength, was unwilling to climb the trees and risk getting spotted. He felt that his chances of survival were higher by hiding in the undergrowth.

As today’s missions were completed, Silas began to search for a dwelling. He decided to spend some extra effort finding a good place, as he felt that he might be stuck in this situation for a while, and having a good place might help him from going insane.

Silas soon found a little stream and quickly ran along it. At some point, Silas saw a pile of huge rocks with a narrow gap where he could fit perfectly. He was overjoyed upon seeing the place and quickly climbed the rocks after confirming there were no beasts nearby.

The narrow gap extended like a cave, and as one went deeper, the gap got narrower until Silas reached a wide cave-like space. Looking around and confirming that there were no beasts nearby, Silas decided to make this place his home for now.

He returned to the entrance, found some medium-sized stones, and blocked the cave entrance. Now I have enough privacy to sleep peacefully, Silas thought.

As Silas lay on the cave floor, many thoughts ran through his mind. He still did not know if his main body had died and he had been reincarnated, or if this was all a dream. Silas' eyelids became heavy as exhaustion hit him, and he closed his eyes.
