Chapter 19: Personal assistant

Chapter 19: Personal assistant

When Silas pressed the purchase option, the icon in the store column began to disperse into light particles. Slowly, the particles gathered and started to form a shape near Silas.

As the light solidified, a small humanoid figure emerged—a 5-inch-tall pixie wrapped in a thick winter coat and lugging a massive backpack. She floated in front of his eyes, swaying left and right under the weight of her luggage.

Seeing her appearance, Silas didn’t know what to say. Instead of looking like a personal assistant, she seemed more like a young lady who had just turned 18 and moved out of her parents' house for the first time.

Watching the struggling pixie sway under her burden, Silas gently extended his paw, offering her a place to stand.

As soon as she landed on his paw, the pixie carefully slid the bag off her shoulders and placed it down, sighing in relief. She wiped the sweat from her forehead before opening her bag and rummaging through its contents.

Silas: “...”

All he could do was wait patiently as she focused entirely on her search. After several seconds, the pixie finally pulled out a stack of papers and handed them to him with a polite bow.

Silas, still clueless, directed his attention to the papers. Although he didn’t understand the language, the meaning became clear to him somehow.

“Employment Contract”

The pages began to turn on their own, allowing Silas to grasp the details.

Wait, what? I have to sign an employment contract to get a personal assistant?

Silas, who had expected to freeload after paying the purchasing fee, was stunned to see that he had to pay a monthly wage, food allowance, medical allowance, and even a snack allowance.

His mouth twitched as he read further. He glanced at the pixie, suspicion forming in his mind.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Did she forge this herself?

The contract explicitly stated that Silas would be responsible for her food and accommodation. To be honest, Silas had been expecting some kind of artificial intelligence assistant, not someone he’d have to take care of.

Still, the contract also clarified that once signed, the pixie would be bound to him and unable to leave, even if she wanted to. Considering this and the fact that the total pay was only 100 Universal Contribution Points per year—including all allowances and a yearly 5% raise—Silas decided it wasn’t such a bad deal. For him, 100 points weren’t much, and the contract detailed the extensive help she could provide.

Weighing his options, Silas didn’t hesitate. He pressed his nail to the employer signature section. The contract dissipated into thin air, and he felt a strange power binding him to the pixie. He could now sense her as though she were part of him.

The pixie, who hadn’t spoken a word until now, finally smiled sweetly and said, “Young Lord, please take care of me!”

For her, becoming a personal assistant was a far more significant deal. Her life and death were now tied to Silas—she couldn’t die unless he did, and she could never leave his side.

Pixies like her, despite being favored by the universal laws, faced a cruel fate. With their negligible combat strength and short lifespans, many had been treated as collectibles by powerful beings. Some were even turned into macabre “butterfly books,” pinned and preserved like trophies.

To protect them, the universal laws had granted them a way out—employment contracts. By binding themselves to people who contribute to the universe.

In this way, they could enhance their survival chances. Some hosts even went above and beyond, investing immense effort and resources to strengthen their assistants. However, the price was steep.

She was quite nervous within, for her who left her family behind and entered a new world now had to entrust her life to someone else.

The little pixie wasn’t sure what kind of master Silas would be. Would her life improve, or would it become even more miserable? The laws could only protect her so much, and there were always loopholes that others could exploit.

Meanwhile, Silas, now with a personal assistant, began thinking about getting an inventory next.

He raised his paw, letting the pixie climb onto his head.

“You can stay here for now. We’ll talk as we move on,” he said.

Even though Silas wasn’t afraid of the spiders in this dungeon, he didn’t want to waste time dealing with them. He could feel the monsters around him growing restless—a sign that he was nearing the dungeon boss.

Meanwhile the little pixie dragged her bag and made herself comfortable in Silas's silky mane.
