I open the elaborate door to the guild hall and walk in. Close to the door sat Ogrid braiding his long red beard. It was hard to keep from laughing earlier when I saw his beard almost trip him. "We got the first floor beat Ogrid. How do we collect the reward for it?" Ragnar asked.
"Ey ye just need to show me the proof and I will split the coin between the four of yah." Ogrid replies.
"What would the proof be we looted the Hobgoblin bosses after they were defeated?" I ask.
"Show me your adventurer's menu." Ogrid said following a huff. I watched them carefully. I didn't know that we had menus in this world. I knew from fiddling around I could see my health and others, and even my skills and class. The menu that Ogrid is referring to is far more in-depth than what I was aware that we had. The menu that we have here reminds me of the one in FFXIV. However, there are some stark differences between them. This menu doesn't have a map, it doesn't show where to go, and I can't turn my fucking brightness down. I better not open that up while somewhere dark. It would be embarrassing to be caught because I looked at my menu for something. I have an inventory too, though it makes my head hurt trying to figure out where my loot is going. Maybe it is going into a pocket dimension.
"Alright now that your Adventurer's menu is open go to the quest tab. Alright, I can see Defeat first floor boss is checked off." Ogrid said. He then gave us our coins. For a world without a press, these are incredibly round. They are like silver quarters. They have a Phoenix on them, which is the symbol of Amrigo, the country that rose from the ashes of an old empire long forgotten. The others in the party seem happy, and I enjoy watching Bradi jump up and down. I listen to the three of them discuss what they are wanting to spend their share on. I already know what I am going to get. I need a place to stay.
"Hey Ogrid is there a cheap inn nearby?" I ask.
"Yes lad there is an inn on the second floor of the guild hall, follow me and I'll show ye where it is." Ogrid said then hopped down onto the stone floor. I followed him up to the second floor. It has a cozy feel to it. It looks like an in you would have found in the early days of America. wood floors and wooden doors. The second floor even had wooden windows. Ogrid gave me a light shove and then walked off, my guess is he went back to his desk. I walked up to the Demi human lady. A Lizard folk as I have heard them called.
"I would like to rent a room for the night." I say nervously.
"Alright, that will be twenty bronze coins for the night, or one silver for the week. If you would like you can rent a room for a month for four silver coins. I look into my purse and grab out four of the ten silver coins that we each got from the quest. While it pains me to lose almost half of my pay for that quest, I would rather sleep here than on the street or in the woods. The woods here are far more dangerous to me than it was on earth. After all, monsters are a true threat here, while on Earth the real monster was usually a human. I paid the Lizard lady and got the key to my room. "Last door on the left" she told me with a smile, or what could pass for an attempted smile.
I walk to the end of the hall and open the plan wooden door on the left. The room was small. It had two wooden beds, mattresses filled with straw, a small wooden table to write letters and a window. I can't help but sigh. I really miss having indoor plumbing in every room. The only places that have it right now are the homes of nobility. They literally think that their shit is above us. It is annoying the nobility treats the common man in this world. On earth, the commoners were able to lead a successful revolt when the nobility became too tyrannical. in this world the commoners could never even hope to do the same. Magic is actually uncommon, and the nobility surround themselves with the best guards and mages that money can buy. The saying from earth that I have learned is to embrace the suck. Huh, would you look at that it's about to be nightfall. I probably should get dinner before I go to bed... eh I'm not really hungry.

I lay down after my brief debate on if I wanted to be lazy or not. Right as I was about to fall asleep, I heard a knock on my door. I grumpily walked up to the door and am surprised to see Bradi and Ragnar standing there. "Hey everything alright?' I ask.
Ragnar looks embarrassed and started to talk just to be cut off by Bradi. "Can we stay with you Tyber?" Bradi asks.
"Before I agree can you tell me what happened to lead you here?" I asked.
"The three of us went shopping for new gear. Ragnar and I went overboard. I got a new blade, and he got a new shield." Bradi answered. Both Ragnar and Bradi looked nervous as I faked debating on letting them stay. Bradi even started giving puppy eyes. Ragnar tried but didn't manage to do so good.
"Alright the two of you can stay tonight, but I am not giving up my bed." I said. I laid down after that little bit of fun and fell asleep soon after. I started to dream. It was my old life. I was at work. They better pay me for this! I'm dead and in another world and somehow still having to work. I make sure the trailer walls are aligned right with the front of the trailer then take it. Then I make sure the back end of the trailer wall is right and take it then go down the length of it welding. For some reason my welder sounds like someone snoring. I can't figure it out. I look at the machine and start to get back to work. The sound of the machine getting on my nerves even more. I then start to feel pressure on my side. Finally, my anger too great along with the feeling of discomfort I wake up. Low and behold Ragnar is playing the part of my backpack. I start to get up when I spot Bradi just sitting on here bed leaned up against the oak wood walls staring out of the window.
I slip out of Ragnar's vice grip and sit next to her. I can feel something about her is off.
"Rough night for you sleeping?" I ask.
She looks at me for a long moment then responds "Yes it has been. If it wasn't for you, we would have all died today."
"Bradi, you're thinking too hard into it. We survived, You survived." I say.
"Yes we did, but had you not had that spell to bring the dead back...." Bradi says before I stop her from going down that rabbit hole.
"We survived Bradi. That's all that matters. Sitting here dwelling on the past won't change anything, the most we can do is prepare for our next fight. I don't know what it will bring, but I am confident as long as the four of us stick together we will all live. Let's grow stronger together." I finish.
"Tyber I am scared. I thought that Legris was going to die. He would have too. I don't want to lose anyone, are you not scared." Bradi asks.
"Bradi I am scared. I don't want none of you to die. While none of us are the best of friends and just got thrown together for that quest. You three are the closest things that I have got to friends in this world." I tell her.
"Well you should know what I am feeling then." she snaps at me.
"Bradi I can't claim to know what you are feeling, but I can tell you what I am feeling. I am confident that I can keep the party alive. Am I scared of losing the three of you? Yes, I am. That only inspires me to be better every day." I say. Bradi gives me a hug. It feels weird being hugged by an orc. In every game they were always just violent antisocial beings. In this world they are kind and no different from any other human besides the green skin and larger K9 teeth. They don't even stick out very much either. I tell her goodnight then lay down on the floor. I want my bed, but not enough to sleep on it with a dwarf for a back pack.
