Chapter 3

POV - Patrick

"So you are saying, he tapped into his mana pool?" I asked. "that should not be possible he is only five, his soul cannot be mature enough."

"If not what else could cause him to faint?" Lily replied. "I think he is able to tap into his mana pool and did not had enough mana."

"There had been a few cases of prodigies getting born who could use magic from an early age," Levi said. "I am so proud of my kids!"

"Hey Patrick can you help me teach him magic," Lily asked. "If he is really a prodigy then I think you would be more suitable for teaching him magic more than me."

That's not true, Lily have saved my life numerous times in the past, without her I would have died many times over. I am sure she is just busy and asking my help, she probably did not expect for her son to be able to wield magic so early.

"Sure I can help Lily," I replied. "But you don't have to say that I am better than you, we all know without you this village would not be here."

"Uncle Patrick?" Kevin asked.

"Oh you woke up," Lily said. "Uncle Patrick here said he would like to teach you magic."

"Really?" Kevin replied. "I wanted to learn magic for so long!"

"Sure Kevin, why don't you go clean your teeth and have breakfast then we can start today." I said.

I have never seen any kid this excited to learn magic they all want to learn using swords first, maybe he is really different from other kids, If he really is a prodigy he will need to get more education and will probably need to enroll in the capital's academy.

"Yes sir!" Kevin replied.

"I guess I should go hunting today," Levi said. "good luck, Kevin!"

"Yes Dad!" Kevin replied and went to clean his teeth.

After sometime Kevin and I were outside their house and I needed to tell him some things about how magic works. Kevin was looking at me with sparkly eyes waiting for me to say something.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"Listen Kevin, to do magic you need mana, mana exist in everything in this world, even in air around you and me," I said. "But the mana you need comes from your soul, you should not have been able to use mana at all yesterday, a soul needs times to mature and you are still young."

"But you did it anyway, only few people could use mana from a very young age and I am not sure if they were as young as you are," I continued. "I am telling you this because I need you to know, you are not special."

I look at his face and see no reaction, that was unexpected.

"You are not special but you are rare and no matter how big of a diamond gets mined, it does not shine bright unless you polish it," I say. "and if you think you are above other kids your age just because you had an early start at magic, I cannot teach you."

I think I overdid it, there's no way a kid is going to get everything I said, so I will just simply ask.

"Will you promise to never look down on anyone?" I ask.

"Yes sir, I promise!" Kevin replied.

He replied so confidently as if he understood everything, he is a good boy.

"Good!" I replied. "then we can get started."

"First you need to feel your mana before you can even think of doing anything with it, so close your eyes and do what I say." I ask him.

"Yes sir!" he replies and closes his eyes.

POV - Kevin

Its finally happening I am going to learn magic, even since I had been born in this world I have seen Mom use magic everyday to cook and heal our injuries when we get hurt, Now I can learn to do that too!

"Take deep slow breaths and try to feel the air that passes through your nose," Patrick says. "Keep focusing on that until you start to hear beating of your heart, stop and tell me when you can do that."

I start to do that, I feel my the air passing through my nose with each breath and I try to hear my heart beat but I can't.

"Don't try to hear your heart beat, just focus on breathing."

How'd he know? okay I will. I start to focus on just my breathing.

thump.

Is that it? I better not lose my focus. I keep focusing on breathing.

thump thump. thump thump.

I did it, I stop and open my eyes, sensei is eating a banana.

"Gave up already? well that's obvious, kids have small attention spans," Patrick says. "don't get disheartened, you will be able to do it eventually."

"I did it!" I reply. "I heard thump thump!"

Patrick quickly swallows his banana and replies.

"Really?" Patrick asks.

"Yes!" I reply.

"Okay.... then we can move on to next step, I guess." Replies Patrick. "First you need to know that, I asked you to do that so you can learn to focus and It had nothing to do with magic directly."

What? then why did we do it?

"You needed to learn to focus to a certain level to be able to sense mana, if you keep practicing your focus like that you will eventually be able to sense mana but that will take too long," Patrick continues. "probably... but maybe you can do it that way fast enough."

Oh that's why. but what was that last part?

"Well that's all for today, we will continue tomorrow," Patrick says. "you should keep practicing your focus to make sure we can continue with the next step tomorrow."

"Yes, I will do that," I reply. "can I call you sensei?"

I did not had anyone to call sensei in my last life.

"Sure, I don't mind," Replies Patrick. "But I need to go now, you too go and have lunch."

"Yes Sensei!"
