Many days passed since that meaning, and Ujuk visited us pretty regulary, and whatever he saw us both, he would always get weird ideas, and I pressed onto him that it was nothing like that, and we didn't have that sort of relationship, not now atleast.
As we went to school, I always noticed Lily, watching from the window. Days, weeks, and months passed before finally it was announced that the battle was going to commence in a week. She said to make a team of four members, so that their would be five teams. There was then going to be three tests, a test of intelligence, strength, and stamina. They were simple tests, but they all had the chance of death. It seemed pretty interesting, but I knew this was probably the only test I was going to take, so I had to make the most of it.
While this was all happening, Lily was still on the window, but then when Tou stopped talking, she went onto the balcony and leaped off, walked towards me and said, "I'm one of your members, okay?" I nodded, a bit confused about why she had to make such a scene. The other two members I choose Jennifer and Kuiy, and they were both okay with it. "So, whos that girl? The one with the bandaged arms?" It was Jennifer who asked.
"An Acquaintance of mine, that's all," I felt a bit embarrased, because I thought she had different thoughts. She said okay, but I didn't really buy it. After we chose the team, as I heard the bell and was about to go back to class, I noticed a shuriken was thrown towards me, again. I caught it, and noticed it was the same one from before, and when I looked towards its flight path, I saw a boy, along with 3 others, laughing. "I'll be the one to take your life, Johnny, you got that?" He said, and then walked away, acting all cool.
I didn't harbor any anger against him, but Jennifer acted much different. "Wha... How dare you? You can't even hurt him, and your boasting about how you can kill him? I would like to see this!" She seemed angry at him, but he, rather than feeling angry, started laughing.
"Oh sorry missy, I'm sorry for saying that to your boyfriend. Here, I'm sorry Johnny." he and the others started snickering, and I saw Jennifer blushed. "I..it's not like that," she said the last part in a more quiet tone. They didn't pay attention and went back to class. "Ignore them, it's alright Johnny." Kuiy said that. I was already ignoring them.
"Okay, I will ignore his foolish behavior." He was really testing my patience however, because he continued throwing shurikens at me, snickering behind my back, while in and out of school. I knew I was going to make him pay. He seemed like a punk with all bark and no bite, but I soon realized I was off by quite a bit.
When the first test occured, which was intelligence, I was pretty surprised, considering he pretty much flunked every test. Our team was considered as the one with the highest IQ and his was the lowest, however at the end, he got ranked 2nd while we were 1st, and we were yet to combat. We had no losses, but they lost all which confused me, considering how smart they were. The games were chess, but a bit more different.
It wasn't like the one from NG*L I assure you, the board was simply lengthened in size by about 3 times, and a few 'new' pieces were introduced, and the rules were a bit different. Tou explained before the games began.
"When the game first starts, you will be directed towards your room where you are thrown 'into' the game via a simulation, or virtual reality you could say. Each board has a piece for their team members, which have the skills of said member, and are thrown in such a position. For example, if you are a boasting kind of kid, you may be given Queen status, if you were a follower of some others, you would be a pawn, a defender would be rook, a bishop would be a supporter and so on. Both sides also have a piece which can move anywhere, but it depends on the situation. It is to complex to explain in words, but depending on the position of others, it can move in such a way, it would be understandable as you play the game, don't worry."
This final battle had a very tense aura, and when we sat down to play, my mind went back into the virtual world. We were 'giants' compared to the size of the chess board. It was a very intense game. "Alright, toss, choose head or tails?" I said I would be tails, so he choose heads. We got the first move.
"If you want, you can take it... what is your name?" he grinned. "Its Untra, and I shall take your offer." Untra then moved the pawn from D2 to D4, exposing his queen. it seemed like he had a plan, but it confused me a bit. I moved the pawn from A2 to A4. We ran most of the game by putting all of our pawns 2 tiles up, but rather than moving E2 two tiles, he went and moved his queen fowards, which confused me, because exposing your queen is usually a big no-no. on his team, all of his special pieces were pawns except him, he was a queen. Lily and Jennifer was a support, while Kuiy and I were rooks.

I then saw a shuriken get shot, and I dodged it, but then when I looked back, I saw something wrong. "Hey! How... how did you check me?" He simply shrugged, and I felt like he was cheating. He was smarter than I expected. The rules never mentioned anything about cheating, so it seemed like he was in the safe, atleast if we didn't expose his cheating with proof, he was safe, which made this even more tough for us.
It was Lily's turn, and it seems like she wasn't very good with chess, and got her own character taken. "Damn," was all she said. It seemed like everyone on my side was starting to fail, while all of them were still strong. My mind kept on spinning around all the possibilites that could happen, and the fact that he may have had a plan on using that special character Tou mentioned about. It was like a Queen, the only one, and we both had one, yet I still didn't understand how he moved, and if I moved it incorrectly, I would be out for cheating, because I moved him incorrectly and they had the proof, that's what made it such a dangerous piece to play, so I decided not to play it till absolutely vital.
"That's where you are going to fall, my friend." Untra then took the special piece, and moved it diagonally like a bishop. It was alright. "Wha? How did you know??" He then smiled, and highfived his friends.
"You haven't caught it yet? I lost those three matches because I was trying to see how it works, and now I know the rules behind this card, try and see if you can catch on without losing." The game continued on, and he was using his queens and the special piece over and over, capturing all my characters. My head started spinning, and I felt like I was losing in a game of intelligence to this person, something I didn't think was possible. Jennifer tryed to assure me that it would be alright, but it wasn't , not at all. Soon the others lost there special pieces, which meant they were disqualified. All that was left on our side was my special piece, the king, and the me, however they still had a queen the special piece, Untra's piece and the king.
I noticed that his piece was moving kind of like the Queen, everywhere, and that the pieces it has captured so far was every type, which made me thinking thats how it worked. Since I didn't capture any of them yet, but since his main was a queen, he was able to move it anywhere, so what I assumed is that Tou was trying to decieve us to begin with, and it matters depending on your character, and since mine was a rook I can only move up,down, left, or right.
"Hmm, I think I got it now," but I was still weary to use it, in case I may have gotten it wrong, soon I managed to get his queen and his main piece, and he got my main piece, so we both had only the special piece and king left. He moved his special piece and said, "Check," which meant I could save my king somehow.
I moved my king to the only safe position, and then he Checked me again, and I realized I could take his special piece, so I did. It was fair, because if it was a check and I couldn't move my king, then that means I have to kill his special piece. It seemed that he felt pain when his special got killed.
"Damn, well played, well played," but he didn't seem to feel any less worried, rather better. "This is going to be a fun one, won't it Johnny?" His pals weren't afraid at all, and Jennifer kept on cheering in the background, and when Kuiy said something, Jennifer blushed and cheered a bit less. I could only assume what it was about.
I moved my king, and soon I had nothing to play, besides my special piece. It would either be checks forever or my special piece would be able to get me a checkmate. Since I captured his special piece, I decided to move it right next to his king, and then which he shouted , "He's cheating! Disqualify him!" With that I knew I did it wrong. He grinned, and said good game.
I lost. I actually lost. This was the first time I actually lost in a game of intelligence. Trinity couldn't do this, Trinity hasn't beat me, and this kid walks right in and beats me, I couldn't handle it. I destroyed the entire simulation with one hit and ran away, outside of 'the' room "Damnit, damnit all!" He started laughing. "Hey, Jennifer. Your boyfriend has a tantrum, go and help him, Haha!" that seemed to piss her off, because she pulled out Yartsdra, and threw it at him, pinning him on the wall (it hit his shirt) . "Do... not.. say that, ever again." she then pulled yartsdra out and put it back into her rift, and went after me.
"Hey, hey Johnny, are you alright?" I shaked my head, and then looked at Jennifer. "Yes, I'm perfectly fine, it's just that I simply had a faze. It was my first time, but I feel a bit better now. You know what they say, defeat only makes you stronger." Jennifer smiled, and walked out with me. I knew that the games weren't done. It was simply the first one, more are to come, and I'll simply grow more and more. With that, I walked out, ready for the onslaught.
