Chapter 2: Feeling Rested

Chapter 2: Feeling Rested

Hmm, has my bed always felt this comfortable? I don’t feel like waking up for a while, and it seems that the birds are singing around me. I wiggled around a little bit and rolled over slightly. This comfort can only be expressed as heavenly.

Hmmm, someone is rustling through my hai-. I jerked my eyes open.

“Ehm, it seems you’re finally awake huhu.”

Looking from above me, was a woman. A pretty one at that, she had vivid and dark seafoam green hair that went past her shoulders I think? I’m really bad with determining length. A large stereotypical witch’s hat adorned her head and eyes that had the color of a lilac flower. Um, she was also well-endowed, and her dark robe didn’t do much to really hide it.

“Hmm, it seems you’ve turned slightly red. Are you alright?”

She reached out with her delicate fingers and touched my cheek.

A smile grew larger on her face, and she went back to playing with my hair.

What do I say? Where am I? My memories are blurry, did I go out drinking with Fuutarou and ended up in some strange cosplay event?

“Excuse me, could you stop messing with my hair?”

“Ohho, he finally speaks, I thought you were still staring at me in awe.”

I’m going to ignore that, I shifted my eyes towards hers.

“Tell me, where am I?”

“You’re on my lap.” The witch had a playful tone, I doubt I’ll be able to get a good answer out of her.

“Could you let me go?”

“No can do, you’re too adorable to let go.”

I attempted to get up, but I was pushed down by a gentle yet strong invisible force.

“What did you do?!”

“It’s rather simple magic involving force manipulation.”

“HOLD ON! Magic? You’re kidding right, right?”

“What do you mean you’re kidding?”

“Magic is make-believe, and simply doesn’t make sense.”

“Fufu, you’re definitely uneducated.”

Magic is common knowledge but there are many forms of it taught. In many countries, many schools of magical knowledge often appear to be alien to one another in terms of teaching. Moreover, those without knowledge of magic are often wild people or strange folk stranded in the middle of nowhere.

She put her palm in front of my face, and a large purple magic circle encrusted with alien runes began to form in it.

I instinctively closed my eyes, and my hands naturally moved to cover my face.

“Too cute. Well hopefully, at least now you understand that magic is very, very real.”

The magic circle then rapidly enveloped itself, resembling a squid monster closing its mouth.

Damn, oh, s-shit. Well, let’s think about this, I wake up on a witch’s lap. I attempted to take a look around still stuck on her legs, it seems I’m in a grass field. With the fact that magic exists, this must be another world. I guess this is goodbye to everyone I knew in the other world.

Well, there’s not much use pondering on and on. I think she’s willing to answer my questions at least so there’s that.

“S-so, where exactly am I?” It is mildly nerve-racking to talk to a weird lady who can blow my face off and more at any moment.

“The border of the High Kingdom of Marutishia.”

Judging from that name, I’m assuming this is a medieval world. I wonder how this kingdom operates.

“How exactly does magic function in this world?”

“Wait, you’re not of this world?” The witch had a bewildered look, quite the stark contrast from her composed and confident face.

“I don’t believe I’m from this world. The world I come from has no such thing as magic nor this wilderness.” The last thing was a bit of a stretch, but this was the best answer to give for what seems to be the start of an isekai.

“Well huh.” She brought up her hand towards her chin and thought. “I’ve never heard of travelers from another world, can you recall any past memories that you have, Nifuji?”

Nifuji… How did she know my name? Was this another one of her abilities?

“How do you know my first name, witch?!”

“First of all, if you don’t want this magic circle to disintegrate you, my name is Vivian.”

“Well, er… Vivian-san, how do you know my name?”

“A figure of blinding light had come from a portal and tossed you out. I happened to be nearby, and was given your name.”

“Really was it that simple, and did you catch a glimps-”

She rudely cut me off, “I was told to be your guide by this figure. I just wasn’t aware of how odd you were.”

“What does being odd exactly mean?” I showed a bit of my irritation at being declared foreign.

“Usually most people are aware of what magic is, and are also from this world.”

~~

Vivian provided me with her telling of what this world entails. In a short summary, I was sent to this world by a figure of light who hailed from a portal. Vivian told me that the only information she received about me was my full name, and a responsibility to guide me. This world has magic, but it’s not the typical type that I’m used to. Magic is based on one’s personality I believe. She gave me the facts that one of a simple mind casts simple magic, one of a messy mind casts magic that is imprecise. It’s a bit confusing, but some of it makes sense.

Moreover, she explained the concept of talents, they kind of remind me of classes from an RPG but it’s slightly different. There are tiers, First Talent means that talent is unique to that person, Second Talent is very rare to find, and it goes all the way to Fourth Talent. Vivian stated that she has the second talent of the Eldritch Rogue. Which was a mild shock, as with her witch attire I was expecting the talent of witch or something.

Now for the current situation, we are in the outskirts of the High Kingdom of Marutishia, not kingdom limits, but we’re close enough that patrols are regular in the area. Currently, Vivian sits in the flowery field next to the purple flame she created using her magic and is preparing some tea and snacks. While I’m chilling on this sweet rock I found, it’s the right shape to be pretty comfy. It looks like a strange rendering error, and part of it sticks out to be support for my back! Although it doesn’t beat where I was resting earlier...

“Vivian-san!” I pointed my pointer fingers towards each other, “ I was wondering if I had some magical ability or talent of some sort. Perhaps some demonic or dark magic maybe?”

I can’t help asking about demonic or dark magic, most games I played with Fuutarou I usually played the strong Dark Wizard or a person who made a demonic contract. Although it sucked that I sacrificed some stat for dark magic as it sucked my health away in the games Fuutarou liked.

Vivian turned teacup in hand and faced me by the roaring purple fire, “If you’re curious about your magical ability, I guess we could visit a magical stone, it’ll determine your talent.”

Magical stones are large, grey, and smooth stones with runes inscribed on them. Apparently, no one knows the origin of these stones, and top scholars are still confused about them. These stones work by placing your hand on them. Then, the runes will glow brightly. Vivian told me that the stone sends information directly into your head of what your talent is. She further described it as an overload of the senses.

I’m getting kinda excited like a child. I just hope I don’t get anything too lame, it would suck being some lame mob in this fantasy. Shoot I just realized, this is going to be different than what I expected. Instead of pressing buttons to shoot fireballs, or summon skeletons, I actually have to cast magic. Hopefully, I don’t mess up something and accidentally blow myself up or fry my brain.

“Anyways, let me make some small preparations Nifuji-kun. It’s not exactly going to be a safe trip, but you don’t have to worry about that ♡”

Vivian has little shame, sigh, I’m never going to get used to this… But this trip to the magical stone better be worth this slight embarrassment.
