Chapter 5: Fire against Fire.

Magic.

The art of bending nature to one's will.

There are two types of magic.

Logical. Using certain rules and formulas to invoke its effect.

Instinctual. Controlling nature by their will alone.

Humans, given their tendency to reject nature and their lack of close affinity for any element, created systems to control the world. It was they who made Logical magic come to be.

The elves, dragons, and pretty much everyone else are gifted with affinity by nature, letting them wield magic only with their instinct.

Magic is classified based on its complexity and strength. For Logical, it is how intricate and complex a circle is, while for Instinctual, it is how much will and mana a being needs to conjure it.

Above this are the ranks of Magic Lords, from baron to king, the mages of old took inspiration from the demons of the abyss.

Now. Master Class Magic: Tidal Flame.

One of the few Instinctual magic I know.

Given that I am now closer to an elemental than a human, I can now "sense" the fire mana in the air more easily and control it.

As far as I know, this magic is supposed to create a wave of flame that will crash into its target.

It would be annoying at best, but better than nothing....is what I thought.

...Wave?

In front of me, a wall of flame, easily reaching 25 meters, rushes towards the Salamander, crashing into it and sweeping it away.

...This is a tsunami!

[You are currently on a place similar to the Plane of Fire; with the density of the mana here, it isn't unusual for fire spells to be strengthened by a dozen times.]

That makes sense, I thought as I hurriedly began to fly away again.

Graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrhh!

[Congratulations, You successfully pissed the Salamander off.]

I looked at the Salamander. Gone is the amusement it had; it is now replaced with a look of rage. Probably insulted, having someone hit it with a fire spell, and said spell actually doing something.

[Warning! This is not a normal Salamander!]

Before I can process what Echo meant, the Salamander lunches itself, and within a second, I can see a tail coming towards me.

The tail comes from above; like a hammer, it swings down on me.

This lizard was toying with me all along.

...I'm so dea-

Boom!

I got squashed.
