Chapter 146 - Repent through good deeds

Chapter 146 - Repent through good deeds

After ten soldiers and their major were escorted away by a group of soldiers under Wick, Peter put his attention back to the squatting guys again. He carefully started to think about their punishment.

In fact, he could just give them death sentence. If they’re ordinary people, they would’ve died under their reckless and powerful attacks. They’re guilty. However, Peter has faith in life.

When a person is still alive, he still has chances to repent for the crimes he committed. But, once the life is gone, the possibilities directly meet the end. Of course, Peter knows that supervision is needed.

Otherwise, he would be guilty if the criminal he freed for redemption committed another crime again.

If it was other followers of most gods, they would have just ended the sinful lives.

However, nobody at scene knew what Peter was thinking. Most of them were either feeling dissatisfied for freeing the main criminals just like that or feeling rejoiced and yearned to be freed easily.

The former came from the neighborhood residents and the latter came from the squatting soldiers.

Although Peter didn’t spy on the thoughts of everyone at scene, he could still see the fluctuating spiritual energies of the crowd through his spiritual eyes. His rational mind wasn’t affected by them.

“I always feel that there should be a second chance in life. Forgiving and forgiving, forgiven and kindness. Of course, this depends on individual’s will and revenging blood for blood is also acceptable.

Even, the lord has said that eliminating the sinful existence can bring you a blessing and luck.

Of course, saving a life can also bring you luck or may be a misfortune. This depends on people.”

Peter glanced at the faces of squatting soldiers with various injuries and talked about his opinion.

Then, under many complicated eyes, he turned to look at his brothers and asked after he connected them to legion communication channel, “So, brothers, tell me about your opinions. Life or death?”

At the eyes of the crowd, Peter turned his head left and right to look at other armored men and fell into silence. That situation lasted like ten minutes. Until when some people started to exhausted their patience, Peter looked up at the sky or exactly the sun and his calm voice appeared again.

“Let’s start the trial. Two hundreds and thirty five soldiers as defendants, the neighborhood residents as witnesses, captain Wick as the attorney, guardian spirits as plaintiffs and I’m going to be the judge.”

The squatting soldiers felt that they’re being humiliated and they’re all going to die at the end. They felt helpless and desperate. Some gave up listlessly but some glanced around to look for a path to life.

Peter raised his left hand and said, “The plaintiffs sue the defendants for trespassing and attempting to kill them with lethal weapons. Attorney, is there anything to say for the defendants?”

Wick scratched his head and said, “I know they’re guilty. But they’re soldiers. They follow the order.”

The neighborhood residents laughed and they started to feel interesting. It wasn’t that bad at all.

Peter raised his left hand towards the laughing crowd under the sad eyes of squatting soldiers and asked, “Witnesses, do you agree with what the plaintiffs said or did you witness something else?”

The crowd shouted messily, “We did.”, “They attacked.”, “They’re guilty.”, “Plaintiffs said the truth.”

Peter neglected some squatting soldiers with their hands raised and said, “According to the evidences and the witnesses, it’s true that the defendants did try to commit first degree murder with lethal weapons. It’s considered as a well organized crime although the defendants failed to succeed.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

You’re found guilty and will be given forty years imprisonment for trespassing, organized crime and first degree murder charges.”

After Peter talked the punishment aloud, cheers and whistles sounded while the faces of squatting soldiers turned better. It wasn’t a good outcome. However, it also gave them a hope. They felt that they could still be saved and the government would not abandon them.

But, Peter didn’t just stop and continued after a short pause, “However, due to the plaintiffs’ special decision and request to adopt another way of punishment, I’ve decided to punish the defendants with labor and community services for twenty years. They will be freed after that.”

Then, he pointed at the squatting soldiers and said, “Starting from tomorrow, you will come to this place and repair everything you damaged here today. Moreover, everyday, you must do one good deed before sunset. If you missed it, the supervisor has rights to starve you for a day.

Helping those in need, repairing the roads, planting trees for shades, doing these three things will be counted as doing good deeds. So, if you can’t find anything to do, go out from the city and repair the roads. You will be supervised by either the neighbors or the men of captain Wick.”

“Wick, let your men handle these guys and follow me to the prayer hall after that.”

Peter talked to Wick. Then, he turned around and walked back towards the cathedral.

As for his brothers guardian spirits, he told them to relax and roam around in the church compound.

After a while, he met Wick in the prayer hall. The two men sat in a corner and chatted.

The conversation lasted nearly an hour and nobody knew what they talked about inside.

After that, Peter left two teams to guard the church compound and told the other eight teams to spread around the city, find the hiding evil existences and eliminate them. It’s a double insurance.

Although Peter believed in the almighty power of his lord Steller, he is afraid to face accidents.

Then, he also went out. Especially, Tina had shown concerns over her parents so Peter had to go.

When he knocked the front door of his in-laws’ house, his mother-in-law opened the door.

Camilia who was in her mid forties still had shadows of her once beauty although years had took away her youthfulness. Peter gave her a hug and said while releasing, “Tina sent her regret. She misses you.”

Camilia smiled, turned back and said, “Come on in. Vera and Daniel are also here today. It’s a pity that Tina couldn’t come with you. Otherwise, we will be able to have a family dinner today.”

Peter walked in and greeted Daniel who was watching a war movie in the living room with a nod.

“Peter, what brings you here?”, Daniel said. Then, he remembered something and asked, “Wait, bro, tell me. Is the church going to abandon this city?”

Peter walked over, sat down on the free sofa and said while grabbing a handful of flavored peanuts on the table and said calmly, “I have no idea about that. But, the church personnel are now at our place.”

Daniel looked at the soldiers dying in the TV and asked, “Can I visit your place?”

Peter leaned back on the sofa and said, “That’s why I’m here. Tina and I want you guys to move to our place. You’re also welcome. You know, this is a great opportunity for both of you and your family.

As for our place, it’s literally a medieval city. The location is just the one you know.”

Daniel asked back while intently looking at the TV, “That ranch?”

Peter put the peanuts into his mouth and said, “Yes, that one. By the way, why are you watching this boring movie? Can’t you find a good one like Warhammer or some magic world movies?”

Daniel shrugged and said helplessly, “We are out of internet. The local TV station only shows those soap opera and boring love dramas. As for this movie, I found it from my dad’s collections.

Do you think that I’m watching this because I love this type of movies? I just don’t have good movies.”

Peter looked at his little brother-in-law speechlessly and asked, “Why don’t you go out and buy them?”

“I did but the stores were closed. Everyone is scared to go out these days. Now, only those food vendors open the farmer market. As for other businesses, they are out of service. This damn day.”

Peter felt speechless. But, he didn’t comment further on anything anymore. He just grabbed peanuts.

After a while, the door was opened from the outside and Miguel came in. He’s surprised to see Peter.

But, he didn’t say anything else and first went into his bedroom to take off the equipment from his body. After a while, he came back into the living room, sat down on a sofa and asked,

“What exactly happened at the church this morning? The city is now boiling and the councilors wanted a detail report on it. You guys fought too hard so we even thought that there was a war in the city.”

Peter shrugged his shoulders and told the father and son duo about what happened in a calm voice.

After the whole story was recounted, Miguel and Daniel fell into silence. They felt complicated and didn’t even know what to comment on the whole damn story. It was just ridiculous.

While Daniel was thinking, Miguel rubbed his eyebrows and said helplessly, “That is not a good story.

Peter, you guys had stabbed a bee nest and a super big one. Now, you still have time to take away my daughter and leave this place quickly. Run to a remote state as fast as you can. You cannot fight against the state machine. They will use every means to kill you. Now, I regret giving my daughter to you.”

Daniel retorted, “Dad, our occult world is not that weak. If we want, we can destroy this continent.”
