Chapter 2 - System - Edited

I wake up and am greeted with the piercing purple eyes of Zalgorath. He's mere inches away from my face.

"What the he-." I scream, but before I make anything more than a peep, Zalgorath speaks.

"Calm down boy, we have more important things to do then freak out over everything. Now tell me, does the prompt say you are an enlightened?" I now notice the prompt I saw before I fell unconscious is still there.

You are now an enlightened

"Yeah, that's what it says." I tell him. He nods.

"Good, good, that is what you want." He answers.

"What exactly is it?" Confusion has more than just set in. It's perpetually here.

"There are two types of system users. 'Travelers' are the basic class of users. Most of the population will be in this class. 'Enlightened' is when you make a contract with a higher being, that being me, for you. When you are an enlightened, you get a host of benefits. First, you siphon a bit of power from me, bolstering yourself. Two, some more of the harder to teach elements of the system, the knowledge of these things is planted into you. You probably won't realize what you know or don't until something comes up, but for an example, the knowledge of how to cast your arcane has been planted into you. Thirdly, we can communicate with each other, much like we are right now." He spits out all this information, and it catches me off guard.

"Oh, one other thing, there is a bit of a drawback. The arcana that you can learn can only come from what I'm specialized in. So you won't be able to learn a bunch of different spells from other branches, unlike the travelers. The rest you can figure out by the training schools." He says.

"All of this should have been explained already, those damn bastards. Keeping the system to themselves, trapping me." I heard him mumble. Before I could parse what he meant, an explosion sounded out, cutting my train of thought. It was close, really close. I could see smoke rising from the bottom of the well.

"Looks like the system created creatures have entered." I didn't acknowledge him. I scanned the well walls, looking for some claimable rocks. There was no luck for me.

"No need to climb, boy, just use your arcane. You already know how." He says this, but I really didn't. I shake my head. He sighs in response.

"To start off, think of the word 'stats' in your head. A prompt will appear." I did as he said, a prompt listing my stats appeared. I understood what the stats meant.

My stats were dangerously low. I didn't quite understand how they quantified the stats though. I thought I was pretty healthy, healthier, to not die from being sneezed on. It seemed like Zagorath understood my thoughts.

"Don't worry. The beginning stats don't really mean much. It just doesn't quantify the stats from before it's activated. Once again, that wouldn't of been a problem if you were born with it, like you were supposed to." He poured out intense anger on those last few words. I still didn't care enough to ask at this moment.

"Okay, how do I use magic then? I need to get out of here!" I say.

"Right. Think of the word 'skills' next. It'll show you what arcana you have. Then all you have to do is point and say the skill. Because of the enlightenment, this would normally take a lot longer. You have circumnavigated this." he says.

Skills: Gravity Lift, Gravity Lance

________________________________

Those were the only skills that I had. I guess they'll have to do. It felt like I innately knew what these skills did. I guess I owe another thanks to the enlightenment. There wasn't enough time to play student. I needed to get up there and see what was going on.

"Gravity lift!" I yell the skill of, pointing at my feet. Nothing happened for a good few moments and I was afraid I did something wrong. Luckily, my fears were erased when the patch of ground rose out of the well, like an elevator.

A few long moments that felt like hours went by as I waited for the top. Afraid of what I was going to see. If I had magic, of all things. The demonic creatures were a safe bet. I prayed for the safety of my parents as I could finally see the carnage up above.

Absolute destruction awaited me. Villagers were in the center by our fountain kneeling down. I could hear their sobs. Five medium creatures trapped them. One of them lifted their head and damn fire spit out of its mouth.

"What the hell." I say, not particularly to anyone. Houses were burning down. One house was just completely gone, must have ignited the propane we had outside of our house…

Wait..that was my house. I said it without thinking, but the blown up house was mine! Something just broke. I rushed the creatures. Knowing my knowledge from my spells, I knew that gravity lance shot a spear of gravity. Blowing anything back that got hit. I used this skill on one creature. It hit the creature dead center. The creature blew off a chunk of the wall, keeping the water in. It lay in the middle, getting soaked from the fountain, unmoving.

The four remaining creatures turned back to look at me, knowing that I'm a threat. I quickly curse and run away from the center of town. Not wanting any of the villagers to get caught up in it. I ran to the woods past the well and faced them there. I shot another lance at once. It hit and went straight into a tree limb, impaling it.

Two dead now, the rest got even more ferocious. The three of them opened their mouths and fire shot out. I quickly darted behind me, tripping over a tree trunk that saved my life. The fire went straight over my head. I misjudged how far they could shoot the fire out. I considered what I should do next as the fire stopped and they quickly rushed me. Looking around, I saw a decently sized pebble, having an idea I used lift on it.

The rock started lifting in the air, and I cast lance on it as well, when it was the height of the creature's bodies. It rocketed past with astounding speed, a small hole appearing in the creature, a spray of blood leaving its body. The momentum wasn't stopped, however; it kept ongoing, straight through another creature that tried to run away. It wasn't very smart though, it just ran in a straight line instead of literally any other direction. There was a spray of blood. Two more dead.

I tried to cast lance on the last creature, but finding that I couldn't. I tried again, making my head pound. I guess there was a mana like system. I couldn't find anything that told me how much I had, though. The creature neared me, knowing that my spells would no longer work. It growled in victory. I reached my hand out, trying to grab anything to help me. It leapt on me. Trying to bite my head off, I grabbed a stick. Sticking it in its mouth, holding its head back. It didn't seem to do much though, as it was much stronger than I was. The stick started breaking, my lifeline nearly gone.

It apparently wanted me to die quicker, however. It opened its mouth, and I just knew it was about to breathe more fire out. I did the only thing I could do. With its open mouth, the stick ended up free. I stuck it in its mouth and pushed as much as my meager strength could offer. It gagged and fell to the ground. As thick magma poured out, it struggled to stand back up. It only lasted for a second later when it made a audible *Thunk* as it hit the ground, dead.
