I… I will be getting my job right? I’ve undone the spell. But guess what I found out? When recalling the spell. A small amount of mana is sent out to gather my mana, and then my mana returns to me, and then another wave is sent out. And this continues until my order is complete. Don’t know if this will be handy one day, but who knows?
Anyways, I’m currently back in that room I was in before, and the four main guys are here yet again. Whispering in hushed tones in a circle. They aren’t thinking of something along the lines of ‘this person is too strong, let’s kill him!’ or something, right? I hope not...
“The grand jury has decided on a decision!” says the first man.
Woah woah, I thought they called themselves something else? Why did they change their names to something else?
“We have decided that since you want to be a guard. We will give you this job. You are to protect the lady of the house Karinoth.” Continues the first guy.
Hey… If this supposed lady of Karinoth is a person who has assasins sent regularly to assassinate her, that isn’t a fun job. I was hoping for something along the lines of, ‘go guard this random storehouse!’ not guard an actual person… But because I asked for it, I can’t refuse can I? Or can I?
“What other contracts do I have that doesn’t include protecting this lady of Karinoth?” I ask. I sure hope there are others…
“There are no other contracts. All of the other houses have all the guards they need. They have no use for another guard.” Answers the third guy.
Wait, so it’s not the soldiers I should look out for but the guards? So the guards are stronger? I don’t understand this world at all… Ah… Where are you mother? Why aren’t you here when I need you…
Anyways, if this the only job there that’s offered, I’ll… Just have to suck it up and take the job.
“I gratefully accept this contract.” I say.
“Good. Take this, this will show you where the house of Karinoth is. This badge will give you the status of a guard, DON’T lose this.” Says the fourth guy.
The guard badge is a badge in the shape of a kite shield with the image of a knight holding a shield. I wonder what different jobs have to identify themselves?
Now that I think about it. Why didn’t I just go be an adventurer? That’s usually the norm with other people, right? They get more freedom and such… Right?
“Do you swear by the oath to not let those of your order down in honor?” Says the fifth guy.
What? I was zoning out there.
“I swear by the oath.” I swear.
“Good. Now when you break this oath, the badge that you have placed on yourself will crack into two. This will show other guards that you have broken your oath and that you no longer have the standing of the order behind you.” Says the second guy.
Wait wait wait. Being a guard means being a part of an order? Like part of the army? I thought being a guard just meant guarding someone for money… Not actually swearing loyalty to someone… I should really start paying attention. But on that note, I figured out a loophole in this system of oaths. Since I wasn’t paying attention, the only thing I swore to was to not let dishonor befall my order. So when I swore by the oath, the only thing set in was the honor part. By not paying attention, I don’t have to follow all those other pesky little things.
Things like don’t kill your contract or something. But really, why would you kill your contract? The contractor is the person who pays you. Right? Oh well, not having to follow a majority of those rules is a better benefit than knowing what the rules actually are.
For now… Let’s look at this paper for the directions… I’m surprised. At least the map is detailed… I wonder if I can take… Yup, It’s there. Screenshots. Awesome, allow me allow me to take a quick picture of this map then… Also… This screenshot feature will be… Very useful in the future… Hehehe…
Well, other than those thoughts, the first thing I should do is take a picture of every book I come across… But that can come later. Job comes first. I want to see what this house of Karinoth is like…
My expectations of a mansion have been crushed. It seems like everyone in this city has a guard. And everyone is in a house. My contractor doesn’t live in a shabby house, but it’s not a mansion either… It’s one of those in-between houses… Neither expensive nor cheap. Oh well, time to knock I guess…
“Coming!” Says the voice inside.
A guy? I’m pretty sure that the guys from before said lady of Karinoth… Note the lady. Maybe this guy is a butler? Who knows…
“Come in! Come in! I assume you’re the new guard? This is the tenth one we’ve had. All the others for whatever reason either quit or were found dead in alleys… Well. I’m sure that won’t happen with you, right?”
What the hell? You’re only in the middle class right? Why do you have so many people trying to kill you? What have you done? Why? Is this why this was the only contractor with a job open? I’m… Still going to take this job though. Doing this will allow me an easy excuse for killing people… I think… Oh well.
Stepping inside I find that the house is actually bigger than the outside allows you to infer on. Is this because of some type of spatial magic or maybe some use of illusions?

It’s time to meet my little charge… Is it going to be a little girl or a teenager? Or maybe it’s someone around my age… What was my age anyways? No clue. I suppose that’s something that will come in time I guess…
Guess what? My charge is a teenager. And apparently a teenager with a rebellious streak, the moment I stepped into the room where I assumed I was going to meet my charge, I saw a kick aimed at my face. And since I was so surprised I took it straight to the face and crashed against the wall behind me leaving a human indent in it. What the heck? Is this her way of saying quit, or get killed by my competitors or something? Well sorry, I need a job… And I can’t be a NEET either because there isn’t anyone to support me… So I’m going to have to stay with this…
“Hello, I am the newly appointed guard.” I say.
The girl just stands there. Glaring at me. I did mention that rebellious streak right?
“Hmph,” she snorts and walks away. “Just don’t die on me. Follow me.”
Right… Let’s follow her? Um… Yeah… That is part of my job description right? Um… Whatever… Maybe I should play with my lens for a bit… Oh! I do have other lens… I think I discovered this earlier? Or maybe I didn’t… Whatever. There’s normal vision lens, useless… No mana seeing lens… But there is a heat detector lens! So this detects heat right? Let’s swap this with my current lens…
Hmm… Building seem blue… And then there are heat signatures all over the place… I think I need to make another eye… And guess what? I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH PURE MANA TO MAKE AN EXTRA ROBOT EYE! Damn it… What if I kill a person and convert that person into pure mana… That should work right? I mean, I can just absorb them as normal things and incorporate them into my body. Wait, if I could just convert everything I absorbed into pure mana, why didn’t I just do that with the bodies that I’ve accumulated? Let’s… Let’s just do that now… And look at that. Look at that. Where should I put this new eye? It doesn’t even need to open in order for it to work… Let’s put this on my forehead… And then I pop the heat detector lens in… And then I swap the lens in my normal two eyes with normal lens. Wonderful…
I wonder if I should do anything like ‘Behold my evil eye! Fall to it’s power!’ or something. Nah… That would be weird… Or would it? This world is already weird. One extra weird thing wouldn’t hurt. Probably.
Oh! What’s this? The blue overlays with my normal sight. And the orange is slightly dimmer with my normal eyesight, but I can still see it. And this eye is great because I designed it to work in 360 degrees. Only downside though is that I can’t actually see the terrain behind me, I can only see the heat signatures… And look! I see a couple of people tagging along!
What should I do? What if these guys are the ones who are trained to be strong as hell? No… They wouldn’t send someone that strong just to take out one little girl. Right? I hope so… But let’s take this fight somewhere else.
“There’s someone following us, let’s move somewhere else.” I tell the girl.
The girl looks back at me with suspicion in her eyes, but doesn’t reject and moves towards an alley.
Woah woah woah. What if I’m not strong enough to fight off the attackers? Then you would. Wait. If I get killed then she would get killed right? No wait, her kick was enough to dent the wall… But I’m unharmed… Maybe it’s some form of mana infusion with the body that permanently increases it’s power? Whatever… Also, for the remaining pure mana, I increased the tank that contains pressurized air can contain. With this, I can move at much faster speeds and I also upgraded my battery. I’m not sure how to improve efficiency with the wires and such so I left those things alone… But these upgrades aren’t that significant because just making an eye used up a lot of it… And I converted everything I had into pure mana...
Oh look! The stalkers have caught up! And… They’re dressed all in blue. Shouldn’t it be black? What the heck? Oh whatever. I need to wait for them to make the first move to consider it self defense. Right?
“What are you waiting for? Destroy them.” Says the girl.
Gah, what the heck. “Of course,” I respond. Let’s have a little fight, shall we? Afterall. We’re surrounded.
Let’s go melee and if it’s too much, I’ll go for magic. Unless these guys have monstrous power. Then I’ll just run away.
Charging forward, I deal the first blow.
Hehehehe.
