“That was tiring.” (Blade)
I walked up to the corpse of the Dire Wolf Pack Leader and pulled out the Ritual Dagger. I cut off one of it’s legs and threw it into my inventory. I wonder if I feed something it’s meat, will it get poisoned?
I also take the time to suck up some of the Dire Wolf Leader’s Blood. If I remember correctly it said I needed a proper container to extract blood out of the dagger.
I take out one of the empty vials of poison, and hold the dagger over it.
Would you like to create a Vial of BloodYes/No
Yes
Select Blood TypeSnake BloodHorned Rabbit BloodDire Wolf(Alpha Male) Blood Blood
Let's go with Snake Blood
N Vial of Poisonous BloodA vial full of poisonous snake blood. Due to improperly cleaning the container the blood became contaminated and poisonous. Due to the compatibility with the poison the blood has been able to minimize the dilution of the poison, and can still be used.
Oh, so as long as I refill these vials with snake blood I can still retain some of the poison without weakening it too much? I should drain some more snakes if I find any, this will be quite useful.
I stab the Ritual Dagger back into the Dire Wolf Pack Leader, and only get up after sucking all the blood. I start walking around, and I end up finding a small lake in the forest. There don't seem to be that many red dots nearby by, this lake seems to be a good spot to have lunch. I gather some dry wood and stack it together. After I get a fire going I go over and drink some water.
If the empty vials didn’t contain poison in them I might’ve used them ,but this works just as well. Maybe it would have been fine if I used the health potion bottles, but when I checked my inventory there was no empty health potion bottle after I used it. Maybe it’s because I used it directly from my inventory
I cook up some more Horned Rabbit after getting getting some water. Let’s see I should probably update my Status.
STATISTICS APPName:BladeRace:DemonLevel:7Alignment:EvilSTR:25AGI:10INT:25END:20WIS:25LIB:50Status Points10
Let’s see from what I can tell, STR directly increases my physical strength, INT probably increases my mana pool, WIS should increase my mana regeneration, AGI should be speed, END should affect my health, and LIB should affect well my libido.
My AGI is quite low, I’m able to use STR to supplement my lack of speed somehow by doing short bursts, but I’m not agile enough right now. But if I get more STR killing things should be far easier. I suppose I’ll pump 5 into AGI and 5 into STR.
STATISTICS APPName:BladeRace:DemonLevel:7Alignment:EvilSTR:30AGI:15INT:25END:20WIS:25LIB:50Status Points0
The sudden boost in strength is quite an interesting feeling that I could honestly get used to. As long as keep leveling up I should be able to reach my former level of strength. As long as I can reach that level of strength I should be fine for the most part.
Let’s see I have 325 Gacha Coins, and 10 Skill Points left.
I’ll save save my skill points for now. As for these Gacha Coins I should be able to buy either a few Normal Gachas or a Silver Gacha. Giri do you have any suggestions?
“Master, is there anything you require exactly?” (Giri)
Nothing in particular, maybe some offensive abilities, so far Mind Control and Camouflage don’t directly do damage. But ability gacha makes it difficult to get specifically what I want.
“Is that so then how about trying Gotta Gacha Em’ All. It’s one of the more expensive Gachas but it provides upgrades to existing abilities, new Gachas, different Gacha shop options, and etc. It’s a mix of a variety of miscellaneous things and something from each Gacha, even the ones you’ve yet to unlock have been thrown in there. If you’re lucky you can get a specific Gacha category like the Swords Gacha, or Spears Gacha. And if you are looking for expensive abilities you might be able to unlock Spell Gacha.”
Oh, so you need to use a Gacha to acquire more Gachas who would’ve guessed. Well let’s pull it up for now. Geh! What’s with this price! The Gotta Gacha Em’ All’s normal gacha is 250 Gacha Coins! The Silver 500, Gold 1000, Diamond 4000, and Platinum 20000! If I use it once I’ll only be left with 75 Gacha Coins, only enough for a single normal Item Gacha.
This basically robbery, and I can’t even kill anyone to get my money back. Whatever let’s just test it out.
R Monstra TranslateGacha Translate has never been this good. Previously you were only able to speak with Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Beastmen but with this wonderful update to your Gacha Translate you can speak to any Monster that uses any form of language.
Well I suppose I can find some use for this. I put out the fire and start wandering around the forest.
----------------------------------------
After traversing a large part of the Bornean Forest I’ve yet to encounter anymore Dire Wolves.I have been able to kill quite a few Horned Rabbits and Green Snakes. And with the Green Snakes blood I managed to fill up the rest of my empty vials. Now I have 3x Vials of Poisonous Blood.
Though it seems that even killing a few dozen Horned Rabbits and Green Snake’s I couldn’t Level Up. It must be the level difference.
“RAWWWW!” (???)
What was that? I hear the sound of metal striking metal, is there a battle going on somewhere? Good, I should be able to profit off of this. I activate camouflage, and charge in the direction of the noise.
Soon enough a large crowd of red and white dots appeared on my minimap. I slowed my approach. Even if I looked straight ahead I couldn’t see anything with all this vegetation, what a lively forest. I climb a nearby tree, and take out my quiver and bow out of my inventory.
Even with my trained eye sight atop the tree I can’t see anything despite only being 50m from my target. I jump from tree from tree, following the sounds of battle and my minimap.
After reaching a tree about 20m away from the fight I finally caught a glimpse of the battle. Currently a group of Humans were fighting a number of goblins. [Analyze]
Name:???Level:13One of the Human race, the race with one of the highest populations in the Continent.
I scan through all of the Humans, other than their level and race I can’t seem to get any other information. It just repeats the same description for each one of them. There are two level 11 females who are hiding behind a tree. There’s a Level 13 brown-haired female warrior, 2 Level 15 black haired male warriors, a Level 12 black haired female archer, and finally the strongest was a Level 17 blond, male warrior. They each wore similar leather armor, had a long sword, and a reinforced wooden shield.
I look at the goblins and analyze them.
GoblinLevel 5A goblin one of the weakest Demi-Humans. They usually inhabit forests where they prey on weaker monsters, and gather together into groups.
Goblin RaiderLevel 11A goblin raider, one of the most pesky fighters of the Goblin Race. They are much swifter than your average goblin and are much harder to hit and kill.
Goblin ArcherLevel 8A goblin who has picked up archer and is capable of using a bow. They might now have the best aim, but that doesn't mean they won't hit you.
Goblin ChiefLevel 15The chief of a group of Goblins. He rules with an iron fist, and all other Goblins have no other choice but to listen to him. All who oppose him die. He has been blessed with a larger build than your average goblin, and is far stronger. He is stronger than your average Hobgoblin
There are a bunch of weak Level 5 Goblins, about a dozen or so. And there’s 4 Goblin Archers. There’s only 3 Goblin Raiders, and naturally there’s only one chief. The chief is quite large compared to the rest. Goblins and Goblin Archers are the size of a child, while Raiders are the size of a teen. The Goblin Chief is a tall lanky Goblin who is 7ft tall, and wields a large wooden club.
I look over to the Human side, and It seems that one of the lower level Human girls was injured in the leg. From the looks of it the Level 11 Girls were only there to collect some herbs and berries. They must have been ambushed by the horde of goblins. It seems like the rest of them chose to stand their ground in an attempt to protect the girl instead of running away. But with the number of goblins they should have just left her for dead.
From what I can tell they are amateurs, decent at best. They don't seem like they are very experience, though I can give them some credit they can put up a fight. The ground is littered with corpses of the lower level Goblins, and even a raider and a few archers. But even then this is to disadvantageous for them it’s only a matter of time.
I’m going to need some help to take down that Goblin Chief. The level difference is 10, with mind control I can turn the raiders and archers around as well. I lay out a ground plan, and decided that it would be for the best to save the Human side. The Goblin side is too unfamiliar, and I don't know what they exactly have in store for me.
Ah, before I forget I upgrade Humanification to max and activate it. My horns and tail then magically disappear into a black smoke. It doesn’t seem to just hide it, I can’t even feel my tail.
I take out the a vial of poison, and activate Mind Control. I hijack the raiders, and two of the archers. I order one of the archers to sneak up behind the Humans.
Currently the lower level goblins are struggling against the Humans, but thanks to their number they’re putting up quite a fight. A large number of goblins are assaulting the strongest Level 17 Human warrior, but to no avail they just keep losing more of their brethren.
I have all three raiders charge at him while he was being attacked by five other goblins. As the Level 17 Human Warrior fended off the attacks of the weaker goblins, I had the Raiders go in and attack him with your classic hit and run. Each time the goblins would attack, I would send the raiders in slowly draining and injuring him.
Though after the fifth attack there were only two out of the five goblins left. I had the Raiders charge with them. The Level 17 warrior managed to fend them off, killing one more goblin, but one of the Raiders managed to leave a pretty deep wound.
“Eric! Why you little!” (Level 15 Warrior)
One of the level 15 warriors charges forward in an attempt to aid his friend. However that wasn’t exactly the best move.
“Dil don’t!” (Eric)
I manually control one of my Goblin archers to shoot him in the leg.
“Aaah!” (Dil)
While controlling the Dire Wolves and experimenting a little with the Horned Rabbits, and Green Snake’s I learned that Mind Control has several other functions. One of such functions is the method of control. You can either order someone to do something, or take full control of them yourself. This control can be be established over all units, but doing so becomes far more difficult to manage. But by controlling them manually I'm able to use their bodies far better than they could themselves. And my accuracy far surpasses any ole goblins.
Dil stops in his tracks thanks to the arrow, and falls to his knee. It seems it was to difficult for him to endure the pain. So naturally I have a Raider end it for him. One of my raider’s slit his throat while he's wide open.
““Dil!”” (Everybody)
Dil's body fell to the body lifeless causing everyone else to grow enraged. The female archer began to madly shoot arrows into the crowd killing my archer, and a few goblins. The others began to recklessly charge forward killing the goblins in front of him, just killed one of my archers. And swings his sword in a frenzy killing the rest of the goblins in front of him and the Raider that killed Dil.
But before he killed that one Raider, I took manual control over him and stabbed him in the knee. It was a move that he probably could have avoid if he was thinking calmly, but emotions just got in his way.
Seeing his injury the goblin chief ordered even more goblins to charge over sending the rest of the lower level goblins to charge in.
“Eric, patch yourself up! I’ll cover you!” (Other Male Warrior)
“Thanks, Greg.” (Eric)
“I-I’ll help too!” (Female Warrior)
Eric backs up, while the rest of the group buys some time for him. He goes into his bag and quickly brings out some emergency medical supplies to treat his wound.
“RAWW!” (Goblin Chief)
I activate Gacha-Translate and turn on Monstra Translate
“Archers Shoot! Everyone Charge!” (Goblin Chief)
He’s loudly giving out reckless orders, and charges in himself.
It seems despite having the same level the Goblin Chief has the upper hand fighting against Greg, the other male warrior. It looks like it won’t be long until this battle is over. Eric won't be able to move as nimbly, and that other warrior's having some trouble. It looks like the fruits ripe for the picking.
I look at my Mana gauge and it’s at around 30%. I have the Raiders charge forward, going around the girls and Greg. They recklessly charge at Eric who’s patching himself up.
“Oh no you don’t!” (Female Archer)
She noticed the Raiders, and shoots one of them. The arrow hit the Raiders shoulder, he won’t be of much use anymore.
Eric grabs the sword by his feet, and swings it in an attempt to protect himself.I have one of the Raiders received his strike. Eric’s sword slices halfway through the goblins body, but it stops. I have the dying Raider hold onto the sword for as long as possible.
As my last Raider comes in from the side, Eric holds up his wooden shield. With their flimsy daggers there's no way to inflict a fatal wound with the shield in the way.Of course this is only if he can hold up his shield properly. I assume manual control over the archer I positioned behind the Human’s before. I take careful aim and shoot Eric’s shoulder.
“Aaah!” (Eric)
The pain causes Eric to lower his shield for a brief moment.
“Eric!” (Female Archer)
The female archer screams, and nocks an arrow into her bow. She wants too shoot, but she’s hesitant. She doesn’t have enough confidence in her shot, which is too bad because she might have been able to save him if she took it.
I relinquish control over the dying Raider, and manually control the last Raider to slice Eric’s neck. Eric freed his sword from the the dying Raider, but it’s far too late. I slice his neck leaving behind a fatal wound. Though with the last of his strength he stabs at the last Raider killing it.
“NOO!”(Female Archer)
Seeing Eric collapse onto the floor lifeless the female archer falls to her knees crying.
“Liza get up!” (Female Warrior)
The female warrior screams in panic, she’s struggling with the goblins who are constantly attacking her with disregard for their own lives.
“God Damn it!” (Greg)
Greg curses, as he struggles to keep the Goblin Chief at bay. Their strongest combatant is down, they’re outnumbered, and their archer is on the ground crying. If this were bad before things just got a little worse.
Well I suppose it’s about time I finish this. I coat one of my arrows with poison and I nock it in place, waiting for an opportune moment.
“DIE!” (Goblin Chief)
The Goblin Chief swings his club high in the air. I take the opportunity to shoot the Chief in the neck with my poison arrow.
I didn’t bother putting my bow and quiver back, and instead charged over with machete in hand. I quickly jumped from tree to tree until I was over the Goblin Chief, and with a single downard swing I left a deep cut in the Goblin Chief’s back.
“HUMAN!” (Goblin Chief)
The Goblin Chief roars at me furiously
“Die!” (Blade)
I swung my machete severing the Chief’s head from his body. All the goblins turned to look at their chiefs dead lifeless body.
“What are you doing kill them!” (Blade)
“Ah,Yeah! Liza, Cynthia!” (Greg)
The female warrior answers,
“R-Right!” (Cynthia)
We charge at the remaining goblins who lost their direction after losing their leader. I take my bow and kill the rest of the archers why, the other two Greg, and Cynthia kill of the level 5 Goblins. Though that archer girl Liza is still weeping.
----------------------------------------
That was some pretty good profit, I gained a total of 3 Levels, a little over 200 Gacha Coins, and 15 Skill and Status points. Giri distribute status points like this: 5 AGI, 5 STR, 5 END.
“It’s been done Master, would you like to check your statuses?” (Giri)
No, other than Mana which I still haven’t gotten used to, I perfectly understand the current condition of my body.
Anyway now to deal with this. Currently the four girls are crying over the corpses of their comrades. I walk over to them.
“I’m sorry for your loss, but if you guys don’t get moving things could get dangerous.” (Blade)
And this isn’t just a maybe, right now there’s a bunch of red dots appearing out of nowhere. It seems there are quite a few beasts attracted to the smell of blood. There are a few beasts that seem to be as close as 30m away. I'd fight them, but I'm not exactly certain of their strength, and besides I don't plan on throwing away my hard earned reward.
“He’s right, we need to move.” (Greg)
Greg picked up Dil’s limp corpse, and urged the group on. I turned to look at him and shook my head, “I suggest you leave the bodies, they will only weigh you down. His too” (Blade)
Greg furrowed his brow and looked at his deceased friend.
“What are you saying! Leave them!” (Liza)
“Liza, calm down…” (Cynthia)
“They gave their lives to protect us and you want us to just leave them!” (Liza)
“Liza, s-stop…” (Girl 1)
One of the non-combatant girls was trying to calm Liza down.
“Shut up! I don’t care if this guy saved us or not, I’m not abandoning them” (Liza)
I take a little peek at my minimap , their coming closer, and closer by the second I can’t delay any longer.
“You're worth more alive than they are dead, now come on I’ll apologize later.” (Blade)
“What-!?” (Liza)
I punched her in the chest, and swiftly knock her out. I hang her over my shoulder, and look at everyone else who is shocked at my actions. Greg takes the initiative to thank me.
“Thank you for your help.” (Greg)
“I didn’t save you out of the goodness of my heart, you should know that shouldn’t you? Now come on where’s the closest village or town” (Blade)
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
“I know, but still you saved our lives, Thank You. Follow me.” (Greg)
Greg leads the way through the forest, while the female warrior and other girl helped the injured girl out. It seems like whatever the hell all those dots were, were content with the corpses.
----------------------------------------
After walking through the forest, the group lead me to a road. After walking for about half an hour we managed to reach a small village separated from the forest by a wooden fence. Most of the land occupied by the village is farmland, but there are still a decent amount of houses. This small village probably only has about 200 or so villagers.
This should be a good place to start, and I should be able to perform a few rituals in the book I’ve been reading on the way here. It’s quite convenient that I can read books straight from my inventory.
Hey Giri, I remember that God of yours mentioning something about other actions providing experience and coins. What sort of actions gives you experience and Gacha Coins other than killing?
“Master, important events that impact a life, or a country will earn you experience and Gacha Coins. For example there was once a man who introduced vaccination. Naturally it changed the world drastically, and earned him an absurd amount of experience and Gacha coins. That was one of the larger events that earned someone experience and Gacha coins. This was done for the sake of different play styles. The Gods support innovation, and creation you see. They especially like the creations of Otherworlders who have a completely different outlook from everyone else.” (Giri)
I see, can you describe this world to me?
“I can’t tell you where you are right now, you will have to gather that information on your own. But I am allowed to tell you this. In every continent there exists several Guilds. The Adventurers Guilds, the Merchants Guild, the Magicians Guild, The Warriors Guild, and the Craftsmen's Guilds. The Adventurers guild specializes in eradicating monsters, the Merchants guild supports Merchants, Magician Guild helps alchemist and mages, the warriors guild trains mercenaries, and the Craftsmen guild supports craftsmen. The Humans you are with are probably from the Adventurers Guild. These Guilds hand out missions to everyone, but for Otherworlders specifically those with Gacha Phones these missions don’t just provide gold, but they provided Quests that will earn you Gacha Coins and Experience. Especially the higher ranked and more dangerous missions. Even if it’s only a quest to fetch and item, as long as that item has some important it will grant you experience and Gacha Coins.” (Giri)
I see, I’ll probably join a few of the Guilds later than.
“Greg, Liza, Cynthia!” (Old Man)
“Dr.Jude! Quick, Alyssa’s injured!” (Cynthia)
An old man in an apron came running down the street as soon as he saw we had someone injured. He quickly ran up to the injured Girl, Alyssa, and inspect her injury.
“Alyssa I’m going to disinfect your wounds before I apply any treatment, bear with me. Careful not to bite your tongue.” (Dr.Jude)
Dr.Jude pulls out a small brown bottle out of his pockets, and empties its content on the wound causing Alyssa to squirm in pain. The doctor carefully dries the wound, before reaching down to the bag hanging from his waist.
“Do have any clean cloth?” (Dr.Jude)
“Yes” (Greg)
Greg puts down his bag, and digs through it. He takes out a roll of cloth, and helps Dr. Jude wrap the wound. The doctor holds his hand over the wound.
“[Heal]” (Dr.Jude)
It seems he casted a Healing Spell, let’s see Giri add 2 points into Analyze.
“It is done” (Giri)
Good, Analyze
Name:JudeLevel:21Class:ApothecaryA villager of a village bordering the Bornean Forest.
Magical Ointment (Cure)A ointment constructed out of herbs, alchemical dust, and magical powder. It is currently enchanted with the spell [Cure], applying this ointment onto a wound will simulate the use of cure by 60%
CureSpellA spell that increases that natural regenerative abilities of a living organism
HealSpellA spell that quickly heals any damage temporarily, however as the effects are temporary the wounds will re-open shortly.
Name:AlyssaLevel:11Class:GardenerA villager of a village bordering the Bornean Forest.
Oh, surprisingly it didn’t just analyze the ointment that he used, but the spells that he used. It even analyzed the spell that the ointment was simulating. That’s quite interesting though, spells can be enchanted onto medicine huh? So if you use an incredibly powerful spell that could rapidly heal someone in a matter of seconds and enchant it onto an ointment even if it’s only 60% of it’s original strength if you create a large amount and distribute it casualties can be kept to a low.
As long as security isn’t too strict I should be able to steal some recipes, ingredients, and secrets to concocting these medicines. I should wait until I’m Level 16 or higher, that way I can use Mind Control on the doctor so he can teach me.
Anyways it seems like the treatment is quite effective, she’s standing on her own two feet right now.
“Good, with this you should be fine. Alyssa I’ll send you some medicine later be sure to take it, and rest. You can take a break from work for the next week as well.” (Dr.Jude)
“Thank you, Doctor.” (Alyssa)
Alyssa bowed, expressing her gratitude towards the Doctor's kindness, and began limping home with the other girl.
The doctor looked around, and asked
“Greg, where’s Eric and Dil?” (Jude)
“They, they’re dead….” (Greg)
Dr. Jude looked at Greg wide-eyed. But the sorrowful expression on Greg’s face signified that this was no joke. The young man that Dr. Jude saw off today had died, tragically.
“I see, I-I’m…...sorry. If I didn’t send you off, then….”(Dr.Jude)
“No, sir it’s ours. If we weren’t so weak, if maybe I stopped those Raiders….” (Greg)
“Greg…don’t you and me both know that we wouldn't have been able to stop those Raiders. They weren’t normal.” (Cynthia)
“But if I was stronger! If i was stronger…. maybe I could have saved them, maybe I could have saved my brother…” (Greg)
Greg clenched his fist, it seems he can’t help but blame himself. I’m surprised he isn’t blaming me, I’m sure this one would be.
I look over at Liza, the female archer who was hung over my shoulder. Judging from my short encounter she would have ridiculed me for not coming in to help them sooner. I mean I could have after all, but then I wouldn’t have been able to kill Eric and Dil.
I carefully put Liza down on the ground
“Excuse me?” (Blade)
Dr. Jude looked at me, his eyes were practically saying oh right you were here
“Oh, excuse me sir, you are?” (Dr.Jude)
“My name is Blade.” (Blade)
“I see Blade, um….” (Dr.Jude)
The doctor looked over at Greg, and Cynthia
“Uh, Mister Blade here saved us, he's the reason we're still here right now.” (Cynthia)
“I see, Blade, thank you. You saved not only my assistants, but these children and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” (Dr.Jude)
Dr. Jude earnestly bowed, tears were building up in his eyes but he made sure to hold them back.
“Mister Blade, thank you for saving us. I’m sorry for earlier, with what happened with Liza and all. You see she well…..she loved Eric. If it weren’t for you we wouldn’t be standing here right now, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive her. ” (Cynthia)
Both Greg and Cynthia bowed towards me
“Don’t worry it’s not a problem, there's no need to bow to me after all I didn’t exactly save you guys out of the goodness of my heart, and I’m sure I said this before.” (Blade)
“Naturally I will compensate you, but even then I wish to convey my gratitude. If there’s anything you’re looking for please don’t hold back and tell me I’ll do whatever I can to help you. I’ll also mention your deeds to the Adventurers Guild Branch.” (Dr.Jude)
“I’m sorry Dr.Jude, but I’m not registered with the Adventurers Guild.” (Blade)
“Oh? Are you registered with the Warriors Guild? We don’t have a branch here , but when the caravan comes around I can send a letter down to the city.” (Dr.Jude)
“Unfortunately I’m not registered in any Guild. I was training at home until recently. I decided to explore the world and broaden my horizons.” (Blade)
“I see, I see. Do you want to register into the Adventurer's Guild then? I can pay the registration fee for you and give you a referral.” (Dr.Jude)
“That would be much appreciated.” (Blade)
I’m quite lucky there was actually a fee to register into a guild huh. It’s a good thing I didn’t just leave these guys as soon as I got here. I should’ve looted Eric and Dil’s corpses when those guys weren’t looking.
“Cynthia, Greg can you take Liza back, I need to bring our friend here over to the Guild.” (Dr.Jude)
Greg picks up Liza off the ground, and walks away with Cynthia. I follow Dr. Jude through the village towards the Adventurers Guild Branch. After a nice chat with the doctor learned that this was actually a frontier village in the expanding Kingdom of Demihel, called Boean Village.
It seems that this frontier village in particular is a hunting village. There are quote a few farms around the village, and gardens inside the village but a majority of the food is gathered from hunting and gathering. It seems that wildlife in the Bornean Forest is quite abundant ,the village not only relies on it for food, but as a source of income.
Hunters can make some money by hunting the beast commonly found in the forest for their skins, horns, and fangs. While others like Dr. Jude can create medicine from the herbs, berries, and materials naturally scattered throughout the frontier.
Though the forest seems to be inhabited with a large amount of Monsters and Demi-Humans. Unlike Horned Rabbits, Green Snakes, and Dire Wolves who are considered beasts there are monsters like Slimes, Skeletons, and Zombies. Unlike beasts these monsters are nothing but a threat, you can’t use their hides, teeth, bones, or meat for anything. As for Demi-Humans like Orcs, Goblins, and Ogres they can’t be processed for the most part either.
There seems to be a great quantity of Monsters, but it seems like Demi-Humans are the real threat. With the abundance of life in the forest food is no issue even in winter, and monsters typically don’t travel very far. However Demi-Humans gather together and burn through large amount of food. And since Demi-Humans rapidly reproduce, there are times of starvation where they go as far as to raid the village. And it seems the village doesn’t exactly have a proper military force either.
It seems that when it is required they gather the hunters and men together to form a small militia to defend the village, but a majority of their fighting force are the adventurers that frequent the village. It seems despite being a part of the Kingdom the village is quite detached, they don’t even seem to get conscripted into the military unless it’s an extremely dire situation.
I can't believe I stumbled upon such a desolate place. I really couldn’t have asked for a better place to start off. I entered the Guild and I was met with a female receptionist.
“Oh, Dr. Jude are you here to put up another request?” (Receptionist)
“No, I’m here to pay remunerations for Eric and Dil. I’ll leave it to you Janet.” (Dr.Jude)
Dr. Jude hands the receptionist a black card,
“I see, I’m sorry for your loss. Ah, Dr. Jude Eric and Dill didn’t fill out the form yet. I can send Dil’s to his family, but what about Eric?” (Janet)
“Send the money to the orphanage, also Janet would you help me register this young man. I’ll be paying the registration fee and give him my referral.” (Dr.Jude)
“Alright, here’s your card Doctor.” (Janet)
“Okay then Blade if you ever need me just come to Janet.” (Dr.Jude)
Dr. Jude got his card back and then left. Janet got some papers from under the desk.
“Okay, first let’s fill out this form. Do you know how to write?” (Janet)
Giri? Does Gacha-Translate work with writing?
“Currently no, It only works vocally, and when you’re reading since it converts their intentions into thoughts. If you want to write you’re going to have to get the skill upgrade from a Gacha.”(Giri)
So I need to get it from a Gacha…
I might as well just learn how to write myself then.
“No” (Blade)
“Well sir if you would like every Saturday Night we hold a class in the Guild. Let’s see, number one what’s your name?” (Janet)
Oh they have classes that’s perfect, it will speed things up.
“Blade” (Blade)
“Age?” (Janet)
“21” (Blade)
“Place of origin?” (Janet)
“Can I skip it?” (Blade)
“Of course, your class?” (Janet)
“My class?” (Blade)
“How you fight in general. Do you use magic, a bow, a sword? It becomes easier to match you up with a party if we have this information.” (Janet)
“I’d say I’m a warrior.” (Blade)
“Okay, now can I have a bit of your blood?.” (Janet)
The receptionist pulls out a small knife, so I hand her my hand. She pokes my thumb and stamps the paper with it.
“With Dr. Jude’s referral you will start off as a Rank E Adventurer would you like me to explain the system?” (Janet)
“Yes” (Blade)
“In the Adventurer's Guild you are Ranked from F-SSS. Each Rank signifies your level of strength. The type of quests you can accept are also limited by your rank. For example a Rank E can only do F,E,D class missions. As an E Rank you can increase your rank by doing a total of 5 D-Class missions, or accumulating accomplishments. The highest rank SSS can only be achieved through a number of incredible feats and accomplishments.” (Janet)
“How are these accomplishments recorded?” (Blade)
“The bigger accomplishments are usually seen by multiple eye-witnesses, but for simple deeds like saving a party it can be told by word of mouth. It’s trust based so it can be abused, but if you do abuse it you might regret it later. Guild Branches like ours can only administer ranks of F-C, and for ranks B and higher one must go through an examination in a city branch or the headquarters. If you attained C-Rank by abusing the system you naturally won't be able to pass the test. If you are found out you can be kicked out of the Guild and won’t receive anymore benefits. You'll also get blacklisted and no other guild will accept you.” (Janet)
Janet handed me a wooden circle with a symbol carved into it. Gacha Translate recognizes it as the letter E.
“Here is a temporary medal, I will send this form over to a larger branch in the city where it will be inputted into a database. You will have to go to the city to pick up your Medal and Identification Card. For a smaller branch like ours we also use the trust based system for missions, but for larger branches they will use the Medal to check if you completed the mission. The Identification Card will hold your Rank, allow you to use the benefits of your Rank, and keep track of your accomplishments.” (Janet)
“Don’t you have people who say they completed a quest and run away with the money?” (Blade)
“Of course, but if someone really had the strength to steal from the guild and get away, they would be spending more time earning an honest living or robbing some other place. The highest paying quests are B-Class missions and above but all B-Class missions require a Medal and Identification Card. To get these you are require to sign a magic contract stating that if you steal from the guild, the guild has the right to use the database to track you down.” (Janet)
"You mentioned benefits before, what are the benefits?" (Blade)
"The benefits are referrals, loans, equipment, discounts, information, and special services. Also if you are B Rank or above you are considered an Elite Member and are paid a salary each month, though it's not enough to live off of." (Janet)
I see, they thought this through pretty well.
“Anyway you should be able to pick up your Medal and Identification Card after a week, you just need to go to any city branch and hand over a drop of blood. Until then I will record any achievements and all of your completed missions. Would you like to accept a mission?” (Janet)
“Sure, give me a D-Rank mission.” (Blade)
“Are you sure? Don’t bite of more than you can chew” (Janet)
“I’ll be fine.” (Blade)
“Alright, since you don’t have a party how about this mission-” (Janet)
D-Class MissionType-SubjugationDescription:There is a cave full of goblins in the Bornean Forest kill them.Reward:4 Iron Coins, Experience, and 20 Gacha Coins
As Janet told me the mission a screen popped up on my HUD.
“I’ll take it.” (Blade)
NotificationYou have accepted a D-Class Mission
Hey Giri, where do I find my quests?
“It’s in the Statistics App, however it only shows up if you have a quest.” (Giri)
I see, then Giri how much is a Iron Coin worth?
“This world’s currency goes like this, Copper, Iron, Silver, Gold. Each consecutive coin is worht a 100 coins before it. As for their worth, well it depends on the place.” (Giri)
I see
"Please take this, it's a further description of the mission. The directions to the Goblin Cave is marked in this paper. If the information is wrong please return, and we will confirm with the person who put up the request." (Janet)
I take the small piece of paper handed to me, and I leave the Guild. I wonder how much an inn is. I look around and I ask one of the villagers.
“Excuse me is there an inn?” (Blade)
“Ah, yes just go straight over there take a right and straight down the road there is the Bollen Inn, it’s pretty good and only costs 20 Copper Coins a Night.” (Villager)
“Thank you, also-” (Blade)
I activate Mind Control
“Do you mind lending me some money?” (Blade)
“Sure thing I have 3 Iron and 43 Copper on me.” (Villager)
“Give me 1 Iron Coin, also erase me from your memories.” (Blade)
I get a Iron Coin off of him, and deactivate Mind Control. He stares at me blankly for a second before going about his day. I walk down the street and take a right, and I found the inn.
“Hello?” (Blade)
As I entered the room the bell attached to the door rang attracting the attention of the few people sitting inside. A young girl ran from the kitchen to the counter in front of me and greeted me.
“Ah, Welcome to the Bollen Inn, my names is Claire would you like a room?” (Claire)
“I’ll take a single room.” (Blade)
“That will be 20 copper then. Would you like a meal with your room, It will be 5 extra. If you’d like some hot water it will be 10 extra.” (Claire)
I look outside and it seems to be getting pretty late. I think I’ll skip dinner for now, I’m to tired.
“I won’t be eating tonight, but can I have breakfast?” (Blade)
“No problem! If you’d like anything in particularly don’t be afraid to ask! Don’t worry you won't regret it, Mom’s cooking’s the best!” (Claire)
She pumps her fist into her air cheering,
“Claire! Don't bother the customers!” (The Mother)
“Ah sorry, that will be 25 Copper Coins.” (Claire)
I hand her the Iron Coin and get 75 Copper Coins back.
“Here’s your room if you’d like anything else please be sure to tell us. I’ll come by in the morning to wake you up for breakfast.” (Claire)
She hands me a small wooden plaque with the words Room 203 carved into it, before she scurries off into the kitchen.
I head up to my room and sleep.
