10: New Encounters

"Rubianna! Rubianna Walmsleys! I am the daughter of Duke Betty Walmsleys!" declared the Duke's daughter. Her crimson eyes and rose-like long curly hair framed her face, even as her red elegant dress was already ruined by the recent events. Behind her, her knight spoke up, "Cassey! I am Cassey Heart, daughter of William Heart, and Miss Rubianna's personal knight. I've taken a vow to serve my lady!" Her voice exuded discipline and responsibility, her deep blue eyes and ocean-like hair tied in a ponytail, and her elf ears made Void momentarily forget his exhaustion.

Void stood up, walking as if nothing had happened. "Oh, looks like you have some interest in her," Vivienne, walking by Void's side, whispered in his ear.

"What if I am? Do you have a problem with that? Don't tell me you're jealous!" Void teased.

"Heh! Bad luck, weak eyes! She already has a crush on the prince. Just look at her, she's out of your league," Vivienne taunted, turning Void to stone with her words. Swallowing this bitter truth, Void approached Rubianna and Cassey.

"Are you two alright? I mean, you were fighting Mother's ex-right hand after all!" Void asked.

"Yes, we are alright, just a bit injured. But I must say, I've never seen a man using such skill, right Cassey?" Rubianna said, turning her gaze to Cassey, who was lost in thought.

"In Elden, the country ruled by elves where I am from, most males are not like him. They never were. Always dependent on their dream princess. I always dreamed of someone who could be strong, even if not stronger than me, just someone who could stand for himself and for those he finds important, just like him..." Cassey thought, snapping out of her reverie as Rubianna's voice brought her back. "Cassey, are you alright?"

As Cassey snapped out, Void was in front of her. She instinctively grabbed Void's hand. "Yes, thanks to you, my lady is safe. Your sword art, your ability, you're on a different level!" Cassey said enthusiastically.

"Yeah, thanks for the compliment, Miss Cassey," Void laughed, his mind racing. "What type of elf is she? I've heard they despise humans. Only a few talk to us, and that's usually those from Elden."

Marcus approached them. "Milady, our ride has arrived, and I've informed the knights and Duke Walmsley. They will handle the rest. Shall we depart now? We will be late for the ball, and I don't think it'll be okay to miss this important event."

"Well, you're right, Marcus. Come on, kids, we have to go. We can't miss the ball, or should I say, I can't let my precious ones miss it!" Maria said, moving toward the new limousine brought urgently.

Later that night, they stopped at a hotel owned by the Middletown family, where everyone had dinner and a doctor checked on them to ensure Void and Vivienne were alright. Afterward, Void took a walk in the hotel's city view area, marveling at the world outside the mansion for the first time.
