CH.1 First Steps

Arkadius...It's that dream again....Arkadius.....Arkadius wake up.....Kyson wake up!

Kyson eyes shot open at the sound of his name, he looks around his brightly lit room to see his mother standing at his door. " Didn't you say you wanted move into your dorm early so you'll have time to explore the school grounds?", his mother said. " Thats never going to happen unless get up and help me move your boxes into the school's invitational portal, so get up, take a shower and get moving!" With that Kyson's mom left in a huff. Kyson remained frozen in bed for a few more seconds as he needed to get his bearings and figure out what was happening. He always felt off and confused when he had the dream. "oh right!" Kyson remembered . "Today is my first day at Novus University!".

Novus University is widely regarded as the greatest magic school in the world. It boasted the best facilities and only employ the best professors, all of whom are legendary in the wizard community. They have a staggering small student population of 5000, so they only accept the best applicants. When I got my acceptance letter from Novus University, my mom couldn't stop crying for days and made sure that everyone she knew heard the news. To Kyson, going to Novus University was the best opportunity to remake himself. "no more Mr. Shy and Awkward, this time I'm going to put myself out there and make a name for myself!" Kyson thought to himself. Finally Kyson got out of bed, gets a quick shower, got dressed and headed to the kitchen to help his mom and hopefully gets some breakfast before he leaves for University.

Kyson yawns as he enters the kitchen where he is greeted with the scent of scrambled eggs and spiced sausages. " Your plate is on the table, hurry up and eat it before it gets cold." Kyson's mother said from the kitchen sink. "What about my boxes? I thought we had to move them?" said Kyson. "The school's portal won't open for another 15 mins, so eat up cause I don't know how often you are going to remember to have breakfast when you're at school but you will be definitely having it when you're at home." his mother said. Kyson arched an eyebrow but didn't say anything more as he headed to the kitchen table where he was greeted by his grandmother May who was also up early having breakfast. "Morning Peanut!" the old women said cheerily. As Kyson sat down and started working on his plate he asked " do you get up this early to say goodbye gran?" "Of course!" said grandma May " you didn't think I was going to let you leave without saying goodbye now did you? Peanut, you won't be back here till the first semester break!" she said.

As Kyson continued to eat his breakfast, his mother sat down next to him and started nervously started to fix his hair. " You know when I was at my University, nothing fancy like Novus or anything it was a smaller school near my hometown. Well as I was saying, during my first week at school I participated in the combat trails for first years and I hit my opponent in the face with a fireball in the first 5 seconds of the match. The guy I was fighting was a summoner type wizard but I didn't even give him a chance to bring out whatever arcane beast he was conjuring up. After the fight the whole school start calling me The Blazing Bolt!" his mother exclaimed proudly. "Bah" his grandmother May scoffed. " The Blazing Bolt? I'm surprised the girl who called me everyday for that week crying because she had such a hard time making friends was also given such incredible moniker." Kyson started snickering at his grandmother's comments. "Its True!" his mom shouted.

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"Shhhh! Stop shouting, you'll wake the girls!" whispered his grandmother. The girls she was of course referring to was Kyson's younger twins sisters Ayla and Vara. "your sisters were up late last night practising their magic so we decided to let them sleep in. I'm sorry I know you would liked to say bye to them as well." she said. Kyson nodded in understanding. His mother who was still slightly fuming decided to change the subject and say " I am however glad though that you ended up being a healer type wizard rather than any magic type suitable for combat Kyson." she said " You don't know how many horror stories I've heard about wizards getting torn apart from working in the city's magical protection force or a combat guild like the Elemental Brigade. Getting a job as a professional healer will get you a great salary but more importantly keep you safe." his mother said. "she's right you know." his grandmother added amicably. "Wizard's with healing magic are also some of the most respected people in world!"

While Kyson nodded his head in agreement he couldn't help but feel conflicted. Yes they were right that being a healer type wizard would make him a lot of money and gain him a lot of respect but being a background position that healer types tend to be in goes against Kyson's desire to finally stand out. Like how often was main character in books and movies the guy who healed people? As Kyson was lost in his own thoughts he subconsciously raised his right hand up to his chest and conjured a ball of fire in his hand. This wasn't no ordinary fire as it didn't burn or char anybody or anything it touched but instead it healed wounds and cured ailments. The fire felt warm and comfortable in his hand. "Kyson! What did I tell you about using spells in the house!?" his mother exclaimed. Kyson in shock, quickly extinguished the spell in his hand only to see his mother conjure up her own flame in front of him, a flame that burned not healed. " Didn't I tell you a million time how dangerous using spells in the house was!?" she asked as she continued to wave her spell in front of Kyson. " kinda of like what you're doing right now?" mused grandma May. " At least his fire heal things while yours just overcooks these eggs". His mother put out her spell but before she could respond to grandma May a holographic message appeared from her watch.

'Novus University's private portal for new and returning students will now appear in 2 minutes as requested, please stand by.' the message read. Kyson's mother stood up quickly. " It's coming soon! Kyson put your plate in the sink and come to the living room hurry!" his mother said. Kyson rush to the sink to drop off his plate and when to hug his grandmother goodbye. " See you soon gran, I promise I will call" he said. His grandmother chuckled. " I know you will Peanut, but don't worry about all that and just focus on becoming the best wizard you can possibly be." she said as she hugged him tightly. Kyson then went to the living room to see his mother waiting for him with one of his boxes with all his stuff in her hands. "Grab the other one, come on". she told him. Kyson picked up his other box and stood beside his mother. She look at him nervously. "Are you ready Kyson?" she asked. He took a deep breathe and said "I'm ready".
