Chapter 7: A Crusader with a Dagger is still a Crusader with a Weapon

Chapter 7: A Crusader with a Dagger is still a Crusader with a Weapon

Basy was having a shit day. Sure every day was bad when you had the threat of looming death hanging over your head through the power of stupid religion but some days were worse than others.

Take today for instance.

While Basy had survived for the most part during the invasion, it had only been through exhausting himself multiple times to the point that he was barely able to think let alone do anything to help Bucket.

Thankfully some blind luck and a moderately intelligent horse had been enough to spare Bucket's, and Basy's life respectively.

But that still left the fact that Basy was still trapped inside a devoted but incompetent Knight, who was unconscious and inside the ruined remains of a massive city which had the ball's to house some damn Wizard's.

Basy wasn't one to judge but most bad things happened because of Wizards. Hell, the reason they were here was because of a Wizard. Bucket didn't know, mostly because Basy had stopped trying to tell him anything important at this point due to his belief that he was a demon.

But one of the clergymen who led the church Bucket was apart of was seeking some random magic artifact made by the Wizards.

It was some classic plot to usurp the dominance of the church from the head of the temple but Basy didn't really care.

He had seen this thing like a dime in a dozen. Basy was always looking for some conspiracy before he got trapped by his dickbag of a father. And mother too, if she hadn't existed or if she had a better rain over her husband than Basy wouldn't be in this mess. Granted he wouldn't exist but living an uncomfortable life was worse than living no life at all.

But that was beside the point, Basy had been looking for conspiracy's anywhere he went, whether before or after his internment inside Bucket.

You could find the cracks society tried to keep secret if you looked hard enough. Maybe some random clerical group that was taking things too far. Or some madman creating a bomb that would level the city, or some political intrigue in the cities Bucket and he visited. There was always something going on in the ballrooms whether anyone liked to admit it.

But you get the point. Everywhere there were stupid or insane or so crazy it just might work types of people around. And each one could easily get you killed with them or in the crossfire.

And even Basy would've died long ago had Bucket not been Bucket. Sure, his 'serve the lord Flappy' syndrome could get a bit much and nearly kill him. But Bucket was if ever, immune to the machinations going on around him.

When he was exposed to such things, he would purge and then leave. That was what happened with most Knights and Paladins and such.

Bucket just happened to have the position of knight. Weirdly most people took jobs not aligning with their class, a Lord could be a baker, and a Baker a lord.

It was weird but one got used to it.

Still, Bucket was an idiot, and even if he was immune to the death's caused by conspiracies. He more than made up for it by throwing himself into nearly guaranteed death through religion.

Basy sighed before he noticed that Bucket was waking up. His mind was sending out the energy signals necessary for consciousness. They would finally leave the place Bucket was in. Which was, if you readers don't remember. Right next to a very burned and sliced apart and rotting body.

Basy didn't have a nose but he was still forced to look at the thing through his bird's eye view around Bucket. And it had gotten very bad when the thing started to split open and release worms.

Bucket quickly woke up from his injury and level induced coma.

He seemed excited, he did get a level up. But Basy doubted it'd be that special to him at least. The class he chose was likely the average Paladin or Holy Warrior shit that everybody else chose. But then Bucket started to curse, then scream, and then he started kicking Mickey's body until it split entirely in half.

So Basy looked closer at the menu in front of him. The system rarely cared about one's privacy. Meaning that just about anyone could look at another's status menu without the user's permission. Though it would only help so much, the class menu when opened would rarely show someone all their stats, after all.

Congratulations, you have upgraded the class Knight to Crusading War Criminal! Crusading War Criminal: You are a man of religion, but that doesn't make you a decent person! More children have died by your hands than an outbreak of a plague in an orphanage! You gain the following stats per level. +7 to Vit, +2 to Str, +17 to Dex. You have gained the following skills! Flame Weapons 101, Makeshift Weapons, War Magic(Criminal Edition), and finally the classic Backstab. You have lost the skill Holy Roar, and Smite Strikes! The Faith Stat and all associated skills have been locked!

Name Bucklinton ThriceBlad of the Lightning of Holytoes (Bucket) Strength 67 Dexterity 31 Vitality 117 Faith N/A Luck 130

Skill Menu: Active Skills: Over Head Blows, Peasants Mating Call, BackStab Passive Skills: Flame Weapons 101, Makeshift Weapons, War Magic (Criminal Edition), Bladed Weapons 202, Armor Expertise, Riding, Shield Expertise, War Cry.

Bucket stared at the menu's with, Basy didn't know what he stared at the menus with. He had stopped cursing and waving his arm's around a minute ago. Letting Basy finally get a good read at it. The menu was definitely much smaller than he remembered.

Plus his class was definitely a bit something. Crusading War Criminal, a class like that would definitely make him desirable when it came to the seedy underbelly of religion.

His 'expertise' would be more than helpful when genociding the survivors of rival temples and other such things.

But while his class made Bucket a valuable ally in that world. Up above in normal society, his class would be disgusted. After all, war was pretty terrible. And being branded a criminal of war couldn't mean anything good.

Good for him, crystals that showed one's menu were rare for the most part. Basy had found it annoying that you could only pull up your menu when you leveled up and no time else. But that was the world.

But Bucket's temple had one such crystal.

Which basically meant that Bucket couldn't go back home. The place where he had lived and trained and where priests sometimes did questionable things in those doors behind the training hall. Where his home had been for the better part of all his life.

He couldn't go back there.

Basy was elated that Bucket could finally leave that road to death traps behind. Bucket now had depression on what he should do with his life.

Everyone important benefited in the end.
