Nothing Good from College Students Playing in a Forest

Nothing Good from College Students Playing in a Forest

[Statistics] are divided into two general categories. [Attributes] and [Skills]. The two contradict each other, one being passive nature and the other being active nature.

There are six basic attributes. They are called so because every living beings have those six statistics.

"So... Konoe... Great name, by the way, your parents have good tastes... Anyway. These are your basic attributes, yeah?"

"Yes, sir."

---

[Strength: 28]

[Dexterity: 33]

[Toughness: 31]

[Perception: 51]

[Insight: 48]

[Ego: 15]

---

There were also more dynamic derivative attributes. These are attributes that are the child of the basic one. These are more complicated or specific. Derivative attributes can always linked to one or more basic attributes.

"You also have a level 30 [Non-elemental] attribute?"

"Yes."

"You have some good skills. But one outshined the rest. Your unique skill?"

"Yes, it's called [Backlog]."

"You scan someone's action. Could you put it in your backlog? Then you can summon it, then will be erased from that backlog?"

"Yes, Mr. Melrose."

Skills are linked with basics and even derivative attributes from time to time. Konoe's [Backlog] skills climbed along with his [non-elemental] attribute.

"Konoe, your statistics are prime for top students. Your grades are beyond fine. But every time you have practical tests, you struggle."

"I'm sorry... Maybe I'm not cut for magic major..."

"Okay, Buddy, calm down. I'm not going to chime in that kind of tune, okay? You're a good kid!"

"..."

"It'll take time, but you'll get better. You know what? Maybe you just lack that time! Experience! I'm going to take some time to think about it. Let's circle back later, alright? It's not a crime to believe in yourself!"

"Thank you, Mr. Melrose..."

---

Teakwood, the city where Nina was transported, offered the best education in the whole country of Forland. The center of it was arguably the best college one can enter, the University of Odrick. Named after the founder of Cyntral Corporation: Odrick Cyntral.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

In the physical center of the University of Ordick, a garden with rarer and fancier greenery kinds. All surrounding a statue of a man gone, the true hero, Altrius.

"You like him, Miss Rain?"

"Huh? Oh! Yeah, I was curious about this statue."

"I see... WAS?"

"Uh, huh! I heard about some cool stuff happening in the forest."

"But, the forest is danger-"

"Hey, come here! There! That boy. He's been talking to the professor about entering the forest!"

Rain pulled on Vinne's hand, dragging her. It was clear whether she was planning to do Vinne harm or not. But ten out of ten outside viewers would think otherwise.

Vinne was a sheltered young sophisticated lady. Rain was as calm as an ogre. Her shorter stature might not convince you, but she's way stronger than you would expect.

Konoe was walking around aimlessly for over ten minutes. There was a lot for him to mull over. His somber atmosphere was ruined by Rain.

"Young boy! You were talkin' with that funny teacher, right? What's your name?"

"Y-yes... Uhm, you just came and asked me that, why?"

"We're your classmates! Mr. Konoe, right?"

"I've seen your face before. But, same question, what do you want from me?"

The boy was softer than a tamed animal in front of the two girls. Didn't make him lame, though, as the two girls were far from just a girl.

"Miss Rain here heard that you- Aaaa"

"Let's go!"

"WHEEERE?"

A new victim had fallen. And soon enough, Rain would become another man's reason for anguish.

KNOCK KNOCK

BRAK!

Rain headbutted the door open. In her defense, she held two persons on both hands.

"Misterrrrr Melrooooose!"

"What in the- Oh, Rain. Will it hurt you to knock?"

The three approached Melroses' desk. More accurately, only one of them rushed the desk, though.

"We're going too!"

"Huh?"

"The forest! You gave him permission right!? Give us too!"

Rain peeked at the fair maiden struggling to release herself from her grips.

"Ah... I'm sorry! Just give me one! I don't know what she's going to do."

"I think I should sit this one out."

Melrose rose from his seat. He left his desk and walked right to the group. Face to face, he could see their face clearer now. They were standing with the door in between them.

"Okay, listen sugar high, I gave HIM permission because I trust him. He's a good kid. He'll enter, kill one or two monsters, then leave. You? I don't think so."

"Come on~ We're not a kid, we're college students! We're adults!"

"They are, not you peepsqueek." Mr. Melrose took a deep breath. "Okay, here's how we'll do it. I'm only giving you permission if you have someone, a REAL ADULT, to supervise you."

"Adult..."

"That's right! I need to see some signage. And don't try to trick me. I'm better at forging than you, I'll know it."

BRAK!

Once again, the door was abused.

"Then what if we take one of my siblings along?" The young, charming man barged in.

"Geh, Raymond Cyntral."

"Ray!" Vinne was stunned at his arrival.

"We'll gather some more students. With one of my older siblings, it will be fine, right?"

In front of such a suggestion, Melrose had nothing back to say.

"Fine... But make it official, none of that under-the-table crap. I want a written statement from your sibling."

"Yes, Mr. Melrose! THANKS! Thank you to mysterious young man!"

Rain left as soon as it settled. She had forsaken her friends to work on the details.

"Ray..."

"Vinne, what's wrong?"

"Are you sure? You know..."

"Everything is going to be fine. They never let me outside like this. For something related to school? Even they would have to let it slide.

"Trust me, it's going to be fine."

---

It didn't go well at all.

Five of them ended up going. Raymond, Vinne, Rain, and Konoe from the original group. One added was a girl named Kren, Rain's friend.

Raymond's siblings couldn't come. The two brothers couldn't come, being the busiest person in the city. His sister was supposed to be the one accompanying them.

"Are you sure it's okay, Ray?" The only daughter, Elizabeth asked her younger brother.

"Yeah. It's fine. We're just going to stay around this area. No need to worry."

"I'm sorry, okay? I'll take you guys home later. Don't make any trouble!"

She eyed Rain. Her reputation preceded her.

But that time, Rain wasn't the one to cause trouble that day. Trouble had found them. A group of bandit thugs just so happened to be crossing that forest. They also just so happened to see five college kids on the way.

Fortunately, they managed to get away. They even met up with Vinne's brother, Dusk.

"WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING HERE!?"
