Ronnie accidently dropped his cell phone onto the man on the floor, causing more complaints when a flame haired woman stepped through the portal.
Regal and proud with her hair literally made of flames, she stood on top of the table, looking down at the both of them through her nose. Her entire body was covered in various tattoos, but the biggest one of all said AMOS emblazoned on her chest, visible because of the tube top she wore along with very short shorts, and strangely, no shoes.
Chad stood up, handed the phone back to Ronnie, still confused, mouth agape.
“Where’s the watch,” the woman asked. “Don’t lie to me.”
Ronnie was still frozen in shock and was brought back to reality once Chad started snapping his fingers in his face.
“Hello. H-e-l-l-o? Sir, where is the angry watch,” Chad asked.
“I don’t know. I don’t know anything, this isn’t my house man.”
“Oh yeah, we know, this is Chase’s house.”
“You mean Ace?”
“That's what I said!”
Chad turned to look at the woman and sighed.
“Liane, I don’t think he knows. Are you sure this is the right place?”
“This is the place! That weirdo in the nothing-place wearing a suit has never lied to me,” Liane insisted.
She sat on top of the table, the portal still open, and Ronnie could see on the other side, that there was nothing, pitch black. He quickly put his hands up to show he wasn’t a threat, and Liane rolled her eyes.
“I don’t know why he didn’t come with us. He said this place is the most dangerous of them all, and I don’t see it,” she said.
“I believe him,” her sword said. “I can taste the blood in the very walls of this house. Find the seals.”
“You can put your hands down,” Chad said. “We’re not gonna hurt you.”
He chuckled and Ronnie slowly lowered his hands, making sure to never take his eyes off Liane. She seemed much more dangerous than he. She walked up and down the kitchen, banging open the drawers, inspecting the floors and walls, but still not finding what she came for.
Frustrated she began her interrogation. She took a chair, turned it towards her, and sat on it, legs spread, glaring at Ronnie as if he owed her money, as if he was the one who had broken into her house.
“Just tell us where the watch is. We need to go back and find someone,” Liane said.
“Call the police if someone is missing,” Ronnie mumbled.
“You don’t understand. This person is dangerous. This astral’s blood can give life. ”
“What does this have to do with a watch?”
Liane and Chad looked at each other, mouthed a few words at each other, talking about him as if Ronnie weren’t in the room. After deciding that Ronnie really didn’t know where the watch was, they decided to continue their path of destruction through Ace’s home.
Ronnie didn’t say anything, as he slowly made his way upstairs, worried about what to do. There was the matter of the attic. He didn’t know what they would do once they found the others upstairs and it wasn’t looking good so far.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“Where are you going,” Liane asked.
Ronnie was at the top of the stairs, and she was at the bottom, looking up at him.
“I’m going to bed,” he replied.
“Born liar,” she said. “Where’s the watch!?”
She was fast, racing up the stairs. Ronnie ran down the hall, and she leaped, lighting her entire body up. He was in awe as the flames didn’t spread, but seemed to pulse and change color.
Liane couldn’t do a single thing against Ronnie. He hadn’t wronged her, and her sword was useless against him. All she could do was threaten him with her light show, but it was good enough.
“If you don’t leave I’m calling the police,” Ronnie shouted.
“Do it! I love eating pork!”
Ronnie actually called the police.
Liane extinguished her flames.
Naked and standing in Ace’s home, she knew that if the police arrived she would die, shot on sight, unable to kill them, her sword merely a pretty stick in this alternate world.
“ Fuck.”
She was feral, leaped down the stairs, and her red curly hair shook around as she ran through the house, looking for her partner. She found Chad, staring at the metal frame of the door leading to the backyard.
He had found another strange mark, a step closer to piecing the puzzle together when Liane grabbed him from behind.
“Cops are coming!”
“ And? ”
“I can’t kill them! I’m not dying here and leaving you stuck here!”
Chad was touched that for the first time Liane seemed to care about him.
“I always thought you only liked me cuz I’m Aurora’s husband and—”
Liane pushed him backwards, into a portal, and he screamed as she rolled her eyes and disappeared into the dark with him.
Once the only sound in the house was the cackling of The Leech, which was no help at all, Ronnie slowly made his way downstairs. He was fine, but the only thing that was hurt was his feelings as soft snickers followed him through the house.
“If you keep it up, I’m putting you back in the attic,” he said firmly.
The laughing stopped.
Going around the house, with books strewn about, furniture pushed aside, alongside broken lamps, Ronnie knew he wouldn’t sleep that night.
“Ace is gonna be so mad.”
Making his final walk around the house while making mental notes of what to clean while waiting for the police to arrive, he realised in horror that the original portal was still open. The oblong void that always seemed to be facing towards him no matter which part of the room he was standing in was clearly going to let in more thieves.
Ronnie left his phone on the table, alongside the blanket and climbed on top of it.
“You’re magic, right? Isn’t there a way to turn it off?”
“I don’t know,” The Leech replied. “I’ve been stuck upstairs a very long time!”
Ronnie mumbled a quick apology, feeling quite silly apologizing to a blanket. He took a quick look at it and then gave up in a split second of finding any solution of closing it.
“Just let the cops handle it.”
Two hands came out, with white, pristine gloves, grabbing him roughly by the shirt, and dragged him inside.
The Leech was lonely once again, and started to cry.
