A new day begins and Merlin who just got up from bed is busy washing her face in the bathroom.
“I hope we learn something new today.” she thought to herself.
Below, her mother Nenevi was preparing their breakfast.
Having finished washing her face, Merlin went down to the kitchen to help her mother.
“Ah, morning honey. Did you sleep well?” asked Nenevi.
“Morning mom. Yes.” replied Merlin.
“Good good, now come there are a few things I need you to do.” said Nenevi.
Meanwhile, in another house inside the council property a mother was calmly waking up her child.
“Wake up Alice my dear, it’s time for breakfast.” said the mother.
“Wh..where’s daddy?” asked Alice, still half asleep.
“He’s busy with Council work my dear.” said the mother, sitting down on the bed. “Now get up you have classes to attend.” she continued.
“Ok mommy.” said Alice as she slowly got up from her bed.
“I’ll be going down and preparing the food.” said the mother.
Finally up from her bed, Alice changed into her casual morning wear and went to the bathroom to wash her face.
Going down the stairs, she could smell the food coming from their kitchen. She could immediately tell what her mother was cooking and was excited, just like any other day to eat her cooking.
“Ah Alice come, the food is ready.” said the mother.
Hearing this, Alice immediately went to the kitchen and sat down with her mother as they ate their breakfast.
“So Alice, how are your friends?” asked the mother.
“Ah, w..well out of all of them there is one who I really like mommy.” said Alice.
“Oh, can you tell me who it is my dear?” asked the mother.
“Her name is Merlin, and I think we have the same interests.” said Alice.
“That’s good to hear, dear. Now if you think she is a good friend then stick close to her, okay?” said the mother.
“Okay mommy.” said Alice.
Like always, Merlin spent most of her time after breakfast training. She knew fully well the disadvantages of going up the path of a summoner and tried her best to limit those disadvantages in her training.
Apart from mana circulation, she had started doing mana formation inside the underground training area to increase her control of mana.
After 1 Moro had passed, she decided it was time to stop and went outside. Tired from practicing both mana circulation and formation at the same time, Merlin decided to take a bath and rest for a few minutes.
A few Amals later, she got out of the bath, clothed herself and since it was time to head out to the institute, she went out after giving goodbye to her mother.
Inside the institute, Alice had already arrived and was sitting alone at their table for a few Amals when Melos entered.
“G..good m..morning.” greeted Alice.
“Ah, m...morning.” replied Melos.
“So, Merlin h..hasn’t arrived?” asked Melos.
“Y..yes.” answered Alice.
The two remained silent for a few Amals until Xavier arrived.
“Ah, you two are already here?” said Xavier.
“Yes, you’re earlier than usual.” replied Melos.
“Ahaha yeah, I’m just excited a bit.” said Xavier.
“For what?” asked Melos.
“Ah, well for the Student Dormitory. I’m hoping the instructor says it today.” said Xavier. “Oh yeah, what about you, aaah sorry but what was your name again?” he continued.
“A...Alice.” said Alice.
“Alice, okay I’ll remember that. So are you also trying to stay in the dormitory?” said Xavier.
“I...I don’t know. M..maybe.” replied Alice.
“O..okay. So where’s Merlin?” asked Xavier.
“S..she still h..hasn’t arrived yet.” said Alice.
“Oh, okay.” said Xavier as he sat down.
A few Amals later, Rigur arrived and just as the bell was about to ring, Merlin arrived.
“Good morning, Merlin.” greeted Alice.
“Morning.” replied Merlin.
“Y..you’re late than usual.” said Alice.
“Tired myself training.” replied Merlin.
“Oh, really?” asked Melos.
“Yes.” said Merlin.
“You sound like you train a lot.” said Rigur.
“Yes, I try to train daily.” replied Merlin.
“Ooh, me too.” said Rigur.
As the students of group 3 were conversing with one another, Sir.Lucas came in and started his class.
“Good morning to you all my fellow students. Today’s topic is going to be Mana and Magic which I’m sure all of you know about, be it simple or detailed. Firstly, we will talk about Mana since it encompasses the whole of Gaia. Mana is the energy that runs the world, almost everything has mana, the wind that flows has mana, the trees have mana, the rocks have mana, the waters have mana, and so on; I’m sure you understand what I mean. It has never been given a fixed definition meaning it currently has multiple definitions. So, I’ll be telling you one definition and that is - ‘Mana is the force, that without its presence the world would cease to function.”. The reason I told you this specific one is because I feel like it defines Mana quite well. With mana we cast magic, with mana we create furnitures, weapons, armors, lighting and so on, with mana we live our present lives and without it I personally believe that we will lose ourselves. Anyways I know that some of you are thinking, ‘Where does mana come from?’ or ‘Is it limited?’; well I’ll be answering that for you. First of all Mana is produced by Gaia herself, meaning the world continually provides us with mana, that is mana is the product of Gaia. And as for the second question, well currently the answer is no, since every second it is being produced. Unless Gaia suddenly stops creating it for some reason then it is more or less an unlimited source of strength for everything. And before we go to the topic of Magic, I will be talking about two important things regarding magic, they are Mana Pool and Mana Limit. A Mana Pool is the total amount of mana an individual is capable of obtaining or containing. You all know by now that every living being has the ability to absorb mana and use it for himself. As such, each individual is born with a Mana Pool which dictates how much mana he or she will be able to absorb and use when fully trained. And then there is the Mana Limit, which limits the amount of mana one can contain. For example, if one person has a Mana Pool of 1000, let's put it in numbers here, then his Mana Limit when he is 2 years old will be 150. The reason for this is that the body needs to be strong enough to house the total amount of his Mana Pool and as such the body sets a limit on how much is safe to contain. It’s a neat little system our Creator gave us. But, there are several cases when someone is born with an absurd amount of Mana Pool resulting in the difficulty of the body to create a sufficient Mana Limit. The most well known case being that of our founder and current Goddess of Knowledge, Mavis. However, although I say that there have been several cases, it is something that is extremely rare. Before going to the topic of Magic, are there any questions regarding what I just said? Oh and if you want you can note it down.” lectured Sir.Lucas.
“Sir, when will we be able to stay in the Student’s Dormitory?” asked Xavier, raising his hands.
“Ah that, yeah I was just about to tell you guys. So after this class, all those who want to stay in the Student’s Dormitory should give me your names. Then in the third class after the Practical class, I will tell you whether all the given names can stay or not.” answered Sir.Lucas.
“Thank you, sir.” said Xavier.
“So, any other questions?” said Sir.Lucas.
“Sir, how exactly were the Mana Pool and Mana Limit found?” asked Remidus.
“Another good question from you. So, at first it was just a hypothesis made by Mavis to explain how people are able to cast stronger spells as they themselves become stronger. However she died before she could prove it and after her death, the Grand Magus helped prove it with the help of his Analysis magic when he observed multiple individuals from their birth till their deaths. He found that the individuals when casting Arcane Expulsion; a spell he created for his experiment; lasted longer when they had become older than when they were young. Further, the individuals who had reached higher tiers of power lasted much longer than those who did not reach such levels. Using this information and with the help of Analysis which was still not polished during that time, he came to the conclusion that there was indeed a Mana Pool and Mana Limit within individuals. And that although the Mana Limit increases with age, it cannot reach the full capacity without proper training. And as the years went on and he kept polishing his Analysis magic, his findings got more and more reinforced and he also started creating methods to increase one’s mana limit such as Mana Circulation which everyone knows by now. Does that answer your question?” stated Sir.Lucas.
“Yes, thank you sir.” said Remidus.
Even the other students inside the room were happy to hear this, since to them it was information they didn't know they needed.
“Anyone else?” said Sir.Lucas.
“Sir, are there any who are born without mana?” asked Litigel, the female elf.
“Hmm, about that I don’t think so. Although there have been cases where people are born with a mana pool so small they can’t even cast tier 2 spells.” answered Sir.Lucas.
“Then sir, is there any way to increase the mana pool of someone?” asked Litigel.
“It’s unlikely that there would be a method for that since even if there was, once the mana pool of said person is increased they would not live long because of excess mana in their system.” answered Sir.Lucas.
“Oh….. okay, thank you sir.” said Litigel.
Looking around his class, Lucas said, “If there are no more questions for now, then let us continue.”.
“So, the next topic is Magic. However we will not just talk about magic but also some of those related to it. Firstly, what is magic? Well, magic is whatever action that is done with the help or aid of mana. As such, you can say that the spells we cast are magic, the different mechanisms that work with the help of mana is also magic. These are differentiated into two groups, they are - Lifestyle Magic and Combat Magic. Lifestyle Magic is the magic that is related to the improvement of life; it includes such spells as Warmup, Cleanup, and Magic Engineering which is a rather complex subject. Whereas Combat Magic constitutes those that are used for combat like Fireball, Inferno and so on. And now the first topic related to magic that we will talk about is spell. We all know what a spell is, however there is something that you all need to know better and that is the tiering system of spells. To refresh your memory, a spell is the result of effective use of mana to solve one’s problem. Spells constitute both Lifestyle Magic and Combat Magic. Before talking about the tiering system, we will talk about chants. Chanting is used to cast spells however it is not fully necessary especially when you reach the level of an Elder Mage. The reason for chanting is to visualize the spell in the caster’s mind for easier and more successful completion of casting a spell. But, spells above tier 6 need to be chanted since there is a risk of something called Spell Clog to happen. A Spell Clog is a phenomenon that happens when one continuously casts spells. It normally happens when after casting multiple spells, an individual suddenly casts a higher tier spell without chanting leading to the spell going berserk making it either explode or cause Mana Purge. The main reason for this is not yet known, but it is thought to be because of too much chantless visualization on the caster’s part. One more thing before we talk about the tiers, I will tell you the different Magic Types in Gaia; they are divided into three groups. They are -
1.Basic types:
* Fire
* Ice
* Lightning
* Wind
* Nature
* Earth
* Poison
* Water
* Neutral/Arcane
* Holy
* Sound
2.Rare types:
* Time
* Chaos
* Shadow
* Death(Necromancy)
* Summoning
* Barrier/Seal
* Scion
* Solar
* Lunar
* Spirit
* Space
* Blood
And lastly,
Physical Types :
* Frenzy
* Force
* Aura
* Sever.
If you want to know more about these, you can go look them up in the Bibliotheca since talking about all of them will take up too much time. Also what I just said doesn’t cover all the magic types in Gaia, as there are some which haven’t been documented yet or not well understood yet to be put in.
So, now onto the tiering system. Every spell is classified into tiers depending on their effectiveness. There are 12 tiers, also called power levels since the higher tier spells you can cast, the stronger you are. However the last two tiers, 11 and 12 are more or less non-existent as almost no one can cast spells of such level besides the gods. So, I will be giving you one example for each tier and I hope you will be able to understand from these examples : Tier 1 - Torch, Tier 2 - Fireball, Tier 3 - Lightning Essence, Tier 4 - Sound Cannon, Tier 5 - Inferno, Tier 6 - Guillotine, Tier 7 - Army of the Dead, Tier 8 - Ultimate Dispel, Tier 9 - Blood Moon, Tier 10 - Terraform, Tier 11 - Time Stop, Tier 12 - Void.”
Sir.Lucas continued his class, talking into more detail about some of the topics he had just said and after a few Amals, he finally finished his class.
“So, that will be all for now. If you want to know more about the things I taught you, like I’ve said before the Bibliotheca is open for all of you. Oh, before I go all those who want to stay in the dormitory come give your names.” said Sir.Lucas.
“Come, let’s go.” said Xavier to Rigur.
“Ok.” replied Rigur as the two went forward to give their names.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
Besides the two a few others also went to give their names.
“Ok, now that I’ve taken your names I’ll get going now.” said Sir.Lucas as he went out the room.
“So, are you going to the library again?” asked Remidus, looking back from her seat.
“No, I will be resting here for today.” replied Merlin.
“Oh, so you were late because you’re tired.” said Remidus.
“Yes.” said Merlin.
“Well I’ll be going to the library, want to join me Alice?” said Remidus.
“I….I don’t know” replied Alice, taking glances at Merlin.
Seeing this Merlin said, “Don’t mind me.”
“O..ok then, I’ll come.” said Alice.
“Oh, can I follow you too?” asked Melos.
“Sure, I don’t mind.” replied Remidus.
“Can we wait for my brother first?” asked Melos.
“Sure, so what about you two?” said Remidus to Xavier and Rigur.
“Hmm, we’ll be going to the Cafeteria.” said Xavier.
“Okay then, let’s go.” said Remidus.
As the others went out, Merlin who was tired from her early morning training fell asleep on her bench.
A dream started forming and inside this dream, Merlin saw a room.
“What, where is this place?” questioned Merlin.
Seeing a single room inside this whole dark space, Merlin walked forward and entered the room.
As she opened the door, she saw a girl completely covered in darkness sobbing.
“That’s strange.” thought Merlin and approaching the girl, she said “Are you okay?” to which the girl suddenly burst into flames. Caught by surprise, Merlin tried to help the crying girl by removing the flames only to find out that she couldn’t use her mana and as she tried to take off her robe she found out that she was suddenly unable to move.
Stuck staring at the girl crying in pain, the building also started catching fire slowly surrounding them. As the heat of the flames started reaching her, Merlin started to panic and tried her best to move her body. But it was in vain as the crying girl suddenly emitted a bright light and exploded.
Merlin immediately woke up after taking the explosion head on, “W..what was that about?” she thought to herself as she looked at her palms, which were sweating likely out of fear. Looking at her timepiece, there were still 6 Amal left and she decided to get up and walk around the garden to clear her mind.
Taking a stroll in the gardens of Mavis, Merlin saw several other students walking around as well. She didn’t really think much and just walked around taking in the fresh air produced by the plants.
Walking around the Tower of Magus, she came upon Areti who was sitting on a bench alone. Trying to avoid him Merlin tried to simply walk past him, but to no avail as Areti saw her and called her.
“Ah, Merlin I thought you were tired and stayed in class.” said Areti.
“Yes, I just wanted to walk around before the break ends.”said Merlin. “I thought you were with the others.” she continued.
“Yeah, they decided to go to the Bibliotheca. And here I am waiting for them.” said Areti.
“Hmm.” said Merlin as she decided to sit down on the bench as well.
“So, I wanted to ask you this after watching your fight with Hermes; from where did you learn your close combat skills?” asked Areti.
“Daily training with my father when I was young. Recently he’s busy so we don’t spar.” answered Merlin.
“Oh, your father must be a good teacher then.” said Areti.
“Yes…..yes he is.” said Merlin.
“So you’re from this city?” asked Areti.
“Yes.” answered Merlin.
“Nice, me and my sister are from a village called Barka, in the country of Kiln.” said Areti.
“Melos is your sister right?” asked Merlin.
“Yes, so you knew her name.” said Areti.
“I heard the others say it.” replied Merlin. “Anyways I’ll be going.” said Merlin as she stood up and went back to class.
Just as Merlin went away, Melos and the others came out of the library.
“Brother, were you talking with someone?” asked Melos as she managed to see someone leaving the bench.
“Ah yes, Merlin was just here.” replied Areti.
“Merlin? I thought she was tired and stayed in class.” said Remidus who was behind Melos.
“Yeah, I think she wanted to refresh her mind before class starts.” answered Areti. “Well, it's nearly time so let’s go.” said Areti as they returned to their respective classes.
Inside their classroom, Merlin was sitting thinking about her dream when the other’s arrived. Reaching their seat, they all sat down.
“So, Merlin you were outside for a while?” asked Remidus.
“Yes, for a short Amal.” replied Merlin.
“You should’ve come inside the library as well.” said Remidus.
“I wanted to clear my mind so I couldn't.” said Merlin.
“Oh, no problem then.” said Remidus as she sat properly.
“Ah didn’t they say that we have to go to the Testing Grounds immediately after the break?” said Xavier.
“Yes.” replied Merlin.
“Oh, that’s why only a few of us are here.” said Melos.
“S..should we go as well?” asked Alice.
“Yeah lets go.” said Remidus as she stood up from her seat.
As such the six of them went straight to the Testing Grounds where some of the students already had been and after a few seconds two separate instructors came.
One of them was Meril, a female Rabbitkin who was one of the judges during the practical test; the other was a muscular brown haired human man, also one of the judges in the practical test - Hermond.
“Hello new students, I am Meril, your magical instructor and the one on my side is..” said Meril.
“Hermond, and I will be your physical instructor. I heard that some of you are already on the level of a tier 4. However you still have to pass the test to officially become one, so you will have to listen well to both me and Meril’s teachings so you can pass the yearly Advancement Test. Got it?” said Hermond loudly.
“Yes sir.” replied the students.
“So, now that Hermond is done with his introductions we will be learning in separate groups. If you look at the area you will see that a wall has been put in the middle. The other side is made to accommodate physical based practical training while the area we are currently standing in is for magical practical training. So all of the physical based students follow Hermond to the other side.” said Meril.
“Ok, now that we have separated we will start today’s pracitcal lesson.” said Meril.
“I’m sure you have been taught about magic and spells in the first class. However that was just the basics and I will cover some of the things your teachers didn’t teach you. So for today’s practical lesson, I will be teaching you about Infusion. I heard that some of you already knew how to use Infusion but I want you to also listen. Infusion is an art of spell casting that defines whether you’re on the level of a tier 4 or not. There are various arts that mark your level and for those who follow the path of magic, Infusion is the first art. Now for those of you who don’t know, Infusion is the art of combining two or more separate spells into one spell. Right now you are only capable of combining two. However you can’t combine any two spells you want as they have to be compatible with another. For example, a Fireball and Waterball cannot be infused as the only thing that will come out is steam. Like this.” said Meril, first casting Fireball and trying to infuse it with Waterball resulting in the Waterball extinguishing the Fireball.
“There normally is no harm done in failing Infusion of spells but there is still a chance for it to harm you so you have to be careful. Now, this is what you will be practicing today. You will try to successfully infuse two spells into one. You will have to properly visualize the combination of the spells you want to infuse and control your mana perfectly so that it does not lead to Spell Clog. Now begin.” said Meril, with the students trying their best to successfully use Infusion.
Meril immediately went to Merlin who she knew could already use Infusion.
“You must be Merlin, yes?” asked Meril.
“Yes.” replied Merlin.
“I know that you can already use Infusion so if you want to practice you can, but if you could help some of your fellow students who are having a hard time, I would be grateful. And of course I will help most of them as well.” said Meril.
“Sure, I guess I can.” said Merlin.
“Thanks a lot.” said Meril as she thought to herself “Hmm, let’s see if she can teach others from her own experience.”.
Just as Meril was thinking, a sudden explosion occurred. It was not a big explosion but the sound was still loud enough for Hermond and his group to hear.
“Haha, don’t you worry. Something like that is bound to happen.” said Hermond to his group of students.
Meril immediately went to the student who caused the explosion.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“*cough cough* Y….yes.” answered the student.
“What spells did you try to infuse?” asked Meril.
“Ah, Fireball and Fireball.” answered the student.
“Oh, well that makes sense. Now all of you listen up. YOU CANNOT INFUSE TWO SPELLS OF THE SAME MAGIC BASE.” said Meril. “Or it will result in explosions like just now. Luckily it was just two basic spells but if you try to infuse higher tier spells of the same magic base the explosion might as well kill you. Understand?” stated Meril.
“Yes miss.” answered the students who then continued on with their trial and errors.
Merlin, who was told to help others, immediately went to Alice who seemed to have a problem.
“Do you need help?” asked Merlin as she approached Alice.
“A..ah Merlin. N..no it’s just that I...I can’t cast spells besides fire spells.” said Alice.
“Oh, then why not just tell the instructor?” said Merlin.
N..no. I can’t.” replied Alice, a bit hesitant.
“Then let me stay here with you. Miss Meril asked me to help those who had a hard time but I don’t think there will be any problem if I just stayed with you.” said Merlin.
“T..thank you, Merlin.” said Alice.
Meanwhile, Xavier was busy trying to infuse his holy magic with Fire magic.
“Holy Flame.” said Xavier, as he tried to cast Torch infused with Holy Essence; however due to some reason all that it resulted into was smoke. Even after retrying it multiple times, he could only maintain the Holy Flame for a second before going *poof again.
At the same time, Remidus who had only focused on Earth magic since birth had a hard time trying to infuse her magic with other spells. She tried infusing her earthen wires with different spells, but failed in all of them. It was not because her mana control was lackluster but due to her small experience of using spells of different elements. As such, she kept retrying.
Rigur and Melos seem to be doing rather well compared to the others as Rigur managed to successfully cast Spark Flame onto his hands which he had turned into Beast Form and destroyed his target with it. Melos on the other hand, had it different; for a Bard Infusion meant applying magical elements into their music through the musical notes and as such she played a single note infused with fire magic releasing a small heat wave from her harp slightly burning her target. However both of them had difficulty repeating their Infused Spells which was to be expected.
A few Amals later, “Ok, now you can stop.” said Meril as it was nearly time for a break.
“From what I’ve seen today, there are some of you who have successfully managed to apply Infusion but fail to repeat the process. That is common for beginners like you so you don’t have to worry about it, repeated practice will remove that limitation. Also for those who can’t yet apply Infusion, no problem. Just make sure to practise at home so by tomorrow you will have an easier time in class. That is all and you can have your break.” said Meril.
Still hearing sounds from the other side, Meril went towards it.
“Hermond, it’s time to end the class.” said Meril, as she stood by the entrance.
“Ah, Meril. I forgot about that, got too excited to teach young bloods you see.” said Hermond, smiling while his students were sweating and tired.
“You’re always excited.” replied Meril.
“Haha, you’re right. Anyways that will be all for today’s class. Don’t forget to practice at home or you will have a hard time for tomorrow’s class.” said Hermond to his group as he exited the Testing Grounds with Meril.
Outside the area,
“So any promising students in your group?” asked Meril.
“Yeah, a few of them actually. Makes me excited. How about you?” replied Hermond.
“A few as well. But probably more than your group.” said Meril.
“Haha, really? We'll see when we start the sparring lessons.” said Hermond.
“Bring it on.” replied Meril.
With the break almost finished, the students once again gather inside their classroom waiting for Sir.Lucas.
“C..can you keep it a..a secret?” whispered Alice to Merlin.
“Sure, don’t worry.” ensured Merlin, understanding what she meant.
Letting out a sigh of relief and thankfulness, Alice’s perception of Merlin drastically improved, even though before she considered her to be her closest friend, now she thought of her more as a sister, one you could share secrets with and not worry about whether they would tell others or not.
“S...so Merlin, there’s something I want to tell you.” said Alice. “Y..you see, my father is a m….member of the Council of Magic.” she continued, a bit nervous.
“Really?” said Merlin, a bit excited. “Me too.” she continued.
“R..really? You too?” replied Alice.
“Yes, his name is Nevil. What about you?” said Merlin.
“M..Martin.” answered Alice.
“Martin? Wait, I think my father and your father are close friends as well.” said Merlin.
Before they could continue their conversation, Sir.Lucas entered the class.
“Hey, I’m back. So how was your first real practical class?” asked Sir.Lucas.
“Sir, what about yesterday’s class?” asked a student.
“Yesterday was more about testing you, to see your capabilities.” answered Sir.Lucas. “Today you learned about Infusion in your practical class. And now I will be telling you the other arts which define your power levels. So like you were told in the previous class, the first art is Infusion which when learned puts you in a tier 4 power level. Next you have Output Control, which you will have to master to reach the level of a tier 5. Output Control means controlling the output of your mana into a spell, which can result in improving or decreasing the effectiveness of a spell.” said Sir.Lucas. “For example, Fireball.” casted Sir Lucas. “As you can see, on my right hand is a basic tier 2 spell, and with the help of Output Control I can increase its power just like this.” explained Sir.Lucas as the size and heat of the Fireball increases, catching the students by surprise.”
“Woah.” exclaimed the students in the first benches as the heat suddenly affected them.
“So, as you can see right now I have a giant Fireball on my hand. However one thing you have to know is that even though Output Control can increase the power and effectiveness of a spell, it does not increase its tier. Now, the next art is called Magic Circle Formation. I’m sure at least one of you here took the second/alternate test in which you have to evaluate a magic circle; that was created by a tier 6 Elder Mage of our institute. So which one of you took that test?” said Sir.Lucas.
“I did.” said Remidus, as she put her hands up.
“Oh, that’s strange. So did you fail the first test?” asked Sir.Lucas.
“No, I requested the tester at the time if I could take the other test and he said yes.” said Remidus.
“So you wanted to challenge yourself? Nice.” said Sir.Lucas.
“Thank you.” said Remidus as she sat down.
“Anyways, Magic Circle Formation is like the name suggests the art of creating a magic circle for spells. Us Elder Mages, and yes me included, copy already created magic circles most of the time, since in order to create your own magic circle you need to be proficient in Magic Engineering.” said Sir.Lucas.
“Sir, so you’re a tier 6?” asked Xavier.
“Yes, you see the difference between a tier 6 and tier 7 is a lot. Especially between a tier 6 and tier 8, which is like heaven and earth. Also the amount of tier 7 individuals is on the lower end in the whole of Gaia.” answered Sir.Lucas.
“What about tier 8s?” Xavier continued asking.
“The amount of tier 8s in Gaia consists of a single digit.” answered Sir.Lucas.
“Thank you sir.” said Xavier.
“Let us continue shall we. So, in order to create a magic circle, one must be extremely proficient in Mana Control since you will need to use mana in creating a magic circle. You know what, let me tell a little backstory regarding magic circles. As I told you yesterday, the one who created Magic Circles is the one and only Mavis which resulted in her being called the Godmother of Advanced Magic, since its creation was revolutionary. It introduced a whole new power level to the then strongest people. So, a magic circle contains words which are taken from the Jor language which is the language of the Jormunds which you will be learning about in a future class. These words contain unexplainable power which buffs up spells. That will be all I tell you regarding Magic Circle Formation as you will need to learn about it later anyways. So the next art needed to reach the level of a tier 7 is Magic Engineering. I will be telling you only the basics of it since it’s a rather complex subject even for me to talk about. So Magic Engineering is the manipulation of spell codes, you see each spell is made up of different codes which cannot be seen by the normal eye and the manipulation of these codes can help with the creation of new spells and original magic circles. And the last tier, the tier 8 is more or less a title really. Since only one person can be on this level in the class trees. For example we only have one Grand Magus and he is probably the strongest individual in the world right now, besides one person.” stated Sir.Lucas.
“Sir.” said Litigel raising her hand up.
“Yes, what is it?” said Sir.Lucas.
“Can you tell us who this one person is?” asked Litigel.
“Sure. So most of you have probably heard of the Angelic War right? If not it was back when there was no Language of Gaia, where every race spoke different languages meaning really ancient times. Back then there was only one God, the God of Creation and with him were beings called angels who served him. One day God decided to send these angels to our planet to aid us, however instead doing as told, they who were emotionless beings, started being corrupted by mortal values and started to revolt resulting in the Angelic War which resulted in the death of millions. In fact according to the Akashic Record, around 30 to 40% of the entire population died as casualties. Anyways there were a total of 400 angels and of the 400 angels, 350 of them were killed by one man, and that man’s name is Lionheart, now known as the God Killer. He killed around 50 of them alone and later received an axe called the God Killer from Jehovah, the God of Creation himself which aided him in his killing spree. So yeah, this absolute madlad called Lionheart became so strong that even later when the God of Creation created other gods to replace the angels, he was assigned the duty of killing any god that went the wrong path. He is the one and only Beyonder, one who is beyond any limits and is the only one stronger than the Grand Magus. Got that?” said Sir.Lucas.
“Yes sir.” answered the students.
“Well, you might learn about him in a later class.” said Sir.Lucas.
A few Amals later, class finished and Sir.Lucas said the following :
“So, one final thing before I leave, all of you who gave me your names for the Student Dormitory are all accepted. As such starting from tomorrow, you will be staying inside the institute campus. Don’t forget to bring necessary clothes and other stuff to put in your rooms. That’s all.” and he left the room.
“You can go, me and Alice are going to stay a bit longer.” said Merlin, when asked if she was ready to head out by Remidus.
“Sure, see you tomorrow.” said Remidus as she left the room along with the others.
“So Alice, you said your father was called Martin right?” asked Merlin.
“Y..yes.” said Alice.
“I know him. When I was young my father used to take me with him on hunts inside the Abzi forest with a friend of his who he called Martin.” said Merlin.
“Oh, I remember. Dad used to tell me about them, h..how he was surprised at how a girl my age l..looked straight at the skinning and cleaning of animals. So that was you?” asked Alice.
‘Yes, and you are the one he keeps talking about with father.” replied Merlin.
“R...really? W..what did he say?” asked Alice.
“I think they were all praises about you.” said Merlin.
“He….hehe. That’s lovely.” said Alice, a bit red on her face.
“Anyways, now that everyone else is out, let's leave as well.” said Merlin.
“Y..yes.” said Alice as the both of them left the room.
