Volume 1 - Early Life

(Author's note : Volume 1 may be a bit clunky as I wasn't sure of how to write it. However starting from Volume 2, the uploads will be in chapters and neater. Thank you for reading an amateur's work.)

Born in the 'Centre of Magic' Magna city, Merlin was birthed by two mages. The father's name was Nevil, a member of the Council of Magic and the mother's name was Nenevi, a former teacher of Mavis' Institute of Magic ( the most well known institute for mages in the Human empire). Since birth she seemed to have a high affinity for magic which was expected. When attaining the age of 5 years, as is tradition she took the necessary aptitude test where she was discovered to have high aptitude for Summoning Magic and very low aptitude for other elements. Summoning magic was considered an inferior magic and as such this revelation somewhat made her and her family disappointed. But not falling into despair, she was determined to show the strengths of Summoning Magic. Her parents too were quite supportive of her and her pursuit for promoting Summoning Magic. They tried their best to help her improve her skills through various methods.

A person needed to be at least at the age of 12 to be accepted into any training institutions, as such during the first five years of waiting to come of age, Merlin trained excessively. She left home at the age of 10 after mastering the basics of her magic. She went to the Abzi forest, which was in the west of Magna city. The forest was said to have a collection of strong mana profitable for mages but it was infested with beasts and monsters.

* Inside the Abzi forest:

"Wew that was a hard time convincing Mom and Dad to allow me to come here." sighed Merlin as she entered the forest in hopes of strengthening her magic to qualify in Mavis' Institute. Since there was no road she wandered around searching for a cave to rest in and make her home. On her path of searching for such a cave she came to witness a fight between a horned rabbit and a wild boar. While hiding she thought to herself " From what I've heard from father, horned rabbits although small are capable of piercing iron armor with their horns accompanied by their speed, so after their fight is over I'll try to kill the winner who is bound to be wounded." Facing each other, both beasts waited for an opportunity when suddenly the horned rabbit sprung from the ground with its horn facing forward and to Merlin's surprise, this sudden attack killed the boar.Since this was her first time seeing a fight between beasts, she was surprised to see the bigger and stronger looking boar die quickly. And as such she could not find a way to attack the unharmed horned rabbit which had escaped while she was in her thoughts; so she just continued her search for a cave.

After wandering around for a while, night was closing in and so she decided to rest in an open space surrounded by trees and bushes which she had just found. She summoned a Flame Imp, a low level fire demon summon to start a fire on the woods she had collected."Flame Imp, burn the woods please" she said as the Imp breathed fire onto the woods starting it aflame. For defense she casted Defense Bubble, a tier 1 barrier which could last for a maximum of 8 hours(due to it absorbing mana from the air to maintain itself) but however had a low defense. As she was preparing to take a rest, her stomach growled which was a sign of hunger. This made her remember to return her summon and also made her cry in a rather dull tone "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... I'm so hungry." But she realized it was dangerous to venture into the dark so she made a resolution to catch a beast to eat the very next day.

The sun shone brightly on Merlin's face, waking her up."Now then time for a food hunt" yawned Merlin as she prepared herself for her journey. So she ventured deeper into the forest and luckily found a Lustful Boar, which was said to be so delicious and super rare that people would spend their entire fortune to eat one. She quickly hid in a nearby bush and summoned Leoucarus, a bow wielding high level spirit (although still in its infant stage) who was her personal summon. "Hey, Leo shoot that boar and we can both eat it" she whispered to which Leoucarus answered "Why would I want to eat a boar? Especially one that looks so......... lecherous" as the unique ability of the Lustful Boar started to kick in". Realizing this Merlin quickly held her nose to prevent the smell emitted to get in. "That's the Lustful Boar" she said while knocking down Leo and blocking his nose. To this sound the boar escaped. "Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!! it ran away" cried Merlin while shaking Leo. This immense shaking cleared Leo's mind and he too cried out loud at the opportunity they had just missed.

As they continued searching for food, they found a cave with a nearby lake, to which Merlin quickly ran to drink the water. And inside the cave they saw a bunch of sleeping horned rabbits. "Oh, this a good chance to roast the bunnies" thought Merlin and as such she summoned her Flame Imp. Letting the imp boost Leo's attack, Leo used Powershot inside the cave which exploded and burned the rabbits. As they came running out, Merlin ordered Leo to shoot them down. Finally having gotten something to eat, she quickly gathered a bunch of branches and ordered the imp to burn it. She used her knife which she bought with her to skin and gut the rabbits ( she was accustomed to such acts as she had witnessed her father do it multiple times). After skinning them, she cut them into two parts - the head and the legs. She roasted the legs by using Leo's arrow and teared off the horns from the head. She got 4 horns from the 4 heads and kept them in her pouch after cleaning them with the lake water. The rabbit legs looking cooked were taken off the fire. She gave 2 to her imp and another 2 to Leo and ate the rest. "Wew, that was satisfying to eat" exclaimed Merlin. "Now then since whatever I was supposed to do is done, I'll be heading back" said Leo as he went poof while munching on the roasted legs. "You go back too Imp…….wait, wait let me give u a name.........Igni yeah that is good. From now on I'll call you Igni" said Merlin as she returned her Flame Imp who seemed to be in a good mood. As the sun was setting, Merlin went inside the cave whose bottom could be seen from the entrance. She set camp, did the usual thing and went to sleep.

The next day, she woke up early and ventured outside her cave in search of beasts to fight so as to hone her fighting experience as there was a certain limit a 10 year old could do even with the aid of mana. While wandering about she would practice the baseless magic skills she has learned as summoners could only use baseless/ non-element magic to it's full extent. In the world of Gaia, magic skills could be learned by practice and practice alone, although elemental magic needed affinity. Magic are both chanted and chantless, however chanted magic is stronger than chantless magic as evoking chants are like enhancements and without them magic skills are just plain. While practicing her chants, she stumbled upon a group of people who were doing something. As she hid herself in the bushes, she looked - men dressed in drab clothing covering their faces, scheming something. She left them to do their thing as there was no way she could interfere. She went to the path where she found greia berries earlier the past day, greia berries are blue, small round fruits which tasted sweet and were edible. She reached the area filled with bushes of berries, ate a few and picked some for later and marked the area as it was a useful source of food. She returned to the cave and as quickly as she woke up, the day ended.

The next day as she woke up and washed her face in the nearby lake, she heard a loud roar which shook the forest, a bit startled she decided to go to the source of the sound. She went North from her cave, as she kept moving forward large impacts could be felt in the ground. A few moments later she came upon the source of the loud roar; two monsters fighting each other on a valley surrounded by rocky hills. One seemed like a cave troll, huge humanoid creatures who live in caves and are weak to sunlight. The other was an ogre, a muscular humanoid creature which looked similar to an Orc but more savage. They were both injured due to their fight which happened before Merlin's arrival. Merlin didn't need to hide to watch their fight as she was on top of the hill, looking down on their battle. The two were currently standing still staring at each other menacingly, bloodily. The cave troll hunching with his big club, a part of his arm torn apart with bite marks and the ogre standing straight with a broken left arm....... when all of a sudden the cave troll threw his club directly at the ogre which the ogre knocked away with his arm instantly but within this short span of time the cave troll ran towards the ogre tackling him. The ogre took the attack by surprise and was knocked back but didn't fall down. The cave troll then picked his club and swung his club at the ogre who was recovering and hit him in the chest. This damaged the ogre making it go berserk. The ogre turned all red with his veins popping out of his skin, he rushed quickly to the cave troll's direction and was hit by the cave troll's club which he simply shrugged off and punched the troll in the face with his broken arm causing its bone to pop out. The cave troll looked dazed and was bleeding, however he stood his ground, threw his club aside and provoked the ogre. The ogre, successfully provoked came charging and the cave troll used its skill "Damage Absorption" and "Iron Skin" and a bloody hand on hand brawl ensued. Each hit sending shockwaves in the air, each creature hitting each other with no blocks made. After a non-stop 2 min brawl they both stopped. The ogre had completely destroyed both his arms, bones popping out and his fists crushed to pulps, there were dents in his stomach and chest and both his horns were no longer present; as for the cave troll both his hands were also broken waving around the empty space, and there was a huge hole in his stomach and this decided the winner of the fight, as the cave troll fell to the ground the ogre led out a huge cry as if he was celebrating his victory. The ogre then walked off into the nearby cave possibly to rest but with such injuries he might as well die inside the cave. This event shook Merlin to her core and she couldn't move from her position for quite a while. Even though she only managed to witness 3 minutes of their fight, it made her tremble in fear of facing such beasts, it made her realize that she would have to train carefully and effectively to live long in such a dangerous world. Easing her fear after a few seconds, she decided to return to her cave, once there she lied down on the makeshift bed, contemplating about how she will continue forward inside this forest where she decided to train herself, remembering bits of the fight she had just witnessed in the process, she then made up her mind and decided it be best to stay like she had initially decided and practice her summoning skills for the 2 more years to come.

A year had passed and Merlin had come to understand her magic better, as she woke up she clasped her hands towards the roof of her temporary home reliving in graphic detail the gruesome fight she had witnessed. Still rather far from being able to deal with such monsters and there being 3 months left before her concluded time to return home, she decided to go out and search for a rank D monster(before she had fought against rank E and F monsters; also both the cave troll and ogre are rank A) to further improve her combat skills. As she walked around the forest, she, for the first time realized the beautiful sounds created by the forest's creatures. Skipping along the rhythm of such beautiful sounds she felt cleansed. Going north of the forest again, the colour of the trees had changed from bright green to a dull tone. The area also suddenly got quiet. Merlin remembered her father's teaching that whenever a forest or the like suddenly becomes silent it means there is a predator inside, one stronger than the rest. As such she decided to go back retreating from such a location and on her way back stumbled upon a fire slime. The slime upon realizing her presence spit out a fireball which grazed Merlin's shoulder. She quickly summoned her new contracted spirit, a Rock Golem around 4 feet tall. She ordered her golem to attack the slime however the golem's slow movement put it at a disadvantage against the slime, however the slime's fireballs too did little to no damage to the golem. Realizing the golems weakness she ordered it to use Pistol Shot as she herself restricted the slimes movements with Restrict Movement, a spell that stops movement for a second. This short duration was enough for the golem to hit the slime damaging it and tearing away a part of the slime's body. Then using basic movement enhancing magic she buffed her golem ordering it to go punch the slime. Upon hitting the slime the fire slime exploded although most of the damage was absorbed by the golem's fist. Now it was during these situations that her passive/innate talent "Zero Empathy" really helped. It was both a curse and blessing for her. One important thing to know is that summoned spirits gain experience points(xp) from defeating monsters and when enough xp is gained they evolve to stronger forms and since it was the golem's first fight it gained a lot of xp, enough for it to evolve to rank D increasing its toughness with only its colour changing from brown to dark brown. After the fight, she returned the golem back and decided to stroll around more since it was still early. Walking around the forest she decided to pick up the fruits of the forest, the edible ones and again stumbled upon the drab clothed people this time coming into contact with them. The men seemed surprised and one of them asked "What are you doing here?", to which Merlin replied "Ah, just going around gathering fruit". As she had several fruits on her arms the man believed her and said "Okay but be careful on your way back ok" as he waved his hand, smiling. Merlin then slowly walked to the other side and looking at their cloaks saw a dragon insignia on them, she didn't look much further and went back to her cave. There she placed the fruit on her handmade basket inside and ate one. She then washed herself on the lake, and decided to rest for the day. She felt slight tremors at night but decided to not investigate it and continued sleeping. The next day on waking up she realised that her clothes had become slightly smaller, or she had just grown by a bit although her chest remained the same. She let out a somewhat disappointed  sigh and went outside the cave cleaning her mouth with the lake's water then eating the fruit she had gathered the previous day. On biting the fruit she tasted nothing, the once sweet fruit she had eaten now tasted bland. Since she had relied on fruit for the past year her taste buds had enough of the fruit and now wanted the taste of roasted meat so her goal for the day was to go West of the forest, the safest place with 'safe to eat' creatures. As such she prepared for her ‘hunt’ and then went out with no clear target of interest. An hour later she reached the West side of the forest and slowly and silently sneaked along the walkable path; she first caught sight of a group of horned rabbits which managed to run upon hearing her feet break a stick lying on the ground. She then ventured around the forest for a few more hours meeting various creatures, although all of them were inedible. Then finally at noon she came upon a river with edible fish swimming nonchalantly. She quickly went to the bank of the river and before drinking the water summoned Leo who also had gotten stronger with a new bow, quiver, arrow, and new clothing; who swiftly shot 3 arrows simultaneously, each arrow hitting a fish; “ It still amazes me seeing you shoot multiple arrows with such accuracy” said Merlin as Leo was fetching his targets. “ Well, I guess that's a normal  response. Since I too got really excited when I managed to master shooting 3 arrows together……... ah you know, my first successive shot was actually at moving creatures called creeps who are basically flying eyes. I was thrilled and a little bit shocked seeing the eyes with arrows.” replied Leo as he walked towards Merlin. He then dropped the fish near her and before properly gutting the fish Merlin went upstream to drink the water. She then came back and summoned Igni who also had evolved into a Flame Cambion. She then asked Leo to collect some firewood nearby while she gutted the fish to which Igni watched closely, seemingly with a little bit of interest while flying around. As he came closer with the firewood, Leo thought to himself “Mmmmmm guess I still can’t really stand seeing her gutting animals”. He then placed the firewood nearby and Merlin asked Igni to burn the wood with a small fire; as she finished gutting the fish she then cleaned the fish with the river water which she collected with a nearby leaf. After properly cleaning them she impaled them with some of the smaller firewood and placed them near the fire. While waiting for the fish to cook the group had a conversation. Leo sat down on a nearby rock and Igni was also sitting nearby waiting for the fish; “So it’s been nearly two years since you resided in this forest and within that span of time I’ve grown quite a bit both physically and mentally……...but it seems to me like you haven’t changed at all” remarked Leo to which Igni nodded his head with a sign of approval to that comment. “Well, aside from my magic power increasing and my clothes getting a little bit tighter I really seem to remain the same as I did back then. You also have changed your clothing as well, can’t wait to change mine.” replied Merlin. “ A few more months left only right? Before you can go back home.” asked Leo to which Merlin replied “3 months.” “See, it's not that long. Besides we’ve all benefited from this aint it; how is the golem faring anyways.” said Leo. “It immediately evolved after its first fight so I guess it’s faring quite well.” said Merlin. “Ah the fish seem to be ready” Leo pointed out. They then ate one fish each and after cleaning up their mess decided to go back to their respective places. Reaching her cave safely, the sun had started to set as she fought some hostile horned rabbits and slimes on her way back. She then casted Air Bubble on her head which she had recently learned and cleaned herself on the lake submerging herself completely underwater. She did this so as to understand the mana contained by the lake so she can cast water magic. She had done this for 1 hour every two days since about 2 months ago and now her compatibility with water magic had gone up. Upon getting out of the lake, she dried herself with the help of Igni and went inside the cave. She tried casting Water Ball and it was a success; a small ball of water formed on her hand. She was somewhat pleased with her achievement and stared at the ball for a full minute before throwing it outside. Following this she decided to rest for the night. Throughout the following week, she spent her time going to the western part of the forest, fighting low ranked creatures in order to hone her combat experience with her 3 summons.

As such, a week has passed and Merlin started her day by jumping into the lake, finally having accumulated enough affinity with the mana inside to cast basic water spells. On jumping inside, she came up with an idea to try and absorb the mana dwelling inside the lake; although only managing to absorb an unnoticeable amount, she realized that she could regain her used mana faster like this. To see whether or not this worked with normal rivers, she decided to go to the spot where she would normally fish. On her first time, it took her around 4 hours to reach there but having gone there a couple of times already, she now knew the shortest path to it which was only a 1 and a half hour walk. On her way to the river, while crossing a dimly lit path with a wall of trees on both sides she came face to face with a goblin, armed with a rusty dagger and leaves covering his lower region. Luckily the goblin was alone, seemingly venturing too far from his companions; however this was the first time she had encountered a goblin equipped with a sharp weapon. In an instant, the goblin came charging showing signs of underestimating his target. With no time to summon, Merlin quickly casted Light Shield, blocking the attack and using one of the horns of the horned rabbits stabbed the goblin in the side of his stomach. She quickly sprung backwards and summoned Ignis telling him to use Firebolt. The spell hit the shrieking goblin burning parts of his body. The goblin was now slowly burning and desperately tried to dim the fire by running which only increased the rate of fire. To finish it off, she summoned Leo who shot the monster right in the head killing it. She then went towards the corpse, however since it had been burned badly she walked past it and continued towards the river. A few minutes later she reached the river, having already returned both of her summons. Her mana had gotten low and she instantly jumped into the river throwing her clothes off on the bank. She tried holding her breath but after a minute came out gasping for air. She then casted Air Bubble and went back in. Now with the ability to breathe underwater, her focus was better and she quickly realized that she could also regain mana from normal water bodies. After regaining her lost mana, she came out, clothed herself and coming up with an idea casted Water Gun. Having lost some mana, she then drank the river water to see if drinking it could recover her mana. It did; although at a much lower amount. Having finished her main purpose she decided to head back facing other monsters on the way - 2 of them being slimes and another 1 being an earth slime.a group of 3 goblins, this time with the help of Leo. She reached her cave and sat down on her makeshift bed. “I think I’ve gotten quite strong” she thought to herself while lying on the bed, her arms pillowing her head, looking at the roof of her private cave.”Rank D…..hmmm maybe a little bit higher before I return home”, she continued thinking. Busy in her thoughts, she fell asleep without recognizing it and in an instant it was already the next day.”Hmm, so I fell asleep” she said softly as she woke up. As she got up from her bed, she grabbed one of the fruits she had stored and took a bite and instantly spit it out. The fruit had gotten old and now tasted like dried lampar. As such she spent the entire day separating the good fruits from the bad ones. Washing and drying the remaining good ones and burning the rest. While cleaning out her fruit basket, she realized just how much fruit she had collected and was surprised by the amount. This didn’t occupy her mind for long as she returned to work. Fatigued from working the whole day, she quickly fell asleep. The next day she decided to not train herself at all, and instead spent the entire day doing whatever she liked. Later that day, while laying on her bed, she thought about the things she did during the previous year; her encounter of the valley fight, meeting various people inside the jungle,all of whom she avoided, her journeys to all four sides of the forest - the West was from where she entered the forest, where she spent most of her time on, on the East was where she first fought unarmed goblins who were hunting, however since the eastern side was occupied mainly by goblins she stopped going there, the Southern area was filled with rank D and above creatures as such she only went there to collect the fruits found there, the Northern area she avoided going to because it was where she saw the ogre and cave troll fight and also recently where she felt the ominous aura from. While thinking about her experiences, the day quickly went by and as the sun started setting, she ate some of the fruits and went to sleep.

Another month passed by and within that span of time, Merlin was busy honing her combat capabilities against various creatures. However during this period she started experiencing strange things in the forest. The creatures had not only gotten stronger than before, but their numbers also increased slowly each passing day. The eyes of the creatures also changed to one colour, purple. The atmosphere of the forest also changed, the mana it stored feeling more and more corrupted. Realizing that staying any longer inside the forest would endanger her life, she decided to return home. She packed some of the fruits she collected into her pouch and placed pieces of wood and dry twigs inside the cave. She then summoned Igni and Leo and combined their abilities telling them to use Burning Shot, thereby burning the inside of the cave reducing whatever was inside into ash. On her way home, she was spotted by a purple dryad. Dryads were supposed to be in the southern part of the forest, it was rank C+ in ranking. The dryad screeched, alerting Merlin who quickly reacted jumping away from its heavy swing. The dust from the impact got in her eye, however she quickly cleaned it with Water Ball. The dryad then inserted its hand into the ground sprouting thorny vines towards her. She summoned Igni and told him to burn the vines while she ran away from them. Igni used Flame Breath and burned the vines, the fires quickly running towards the dryad who swiftly cut off its arms which quickly grew back. Merlin then summoned Leo, who quickly shot the dryad stunning it for a short duration. The vines had managed to cut Merlin's legs and it was bleeding. With her mana now low she had to be really careful. She now ordered Leo to charge towards the dryad while Igni supported him. The dryad too charged towards them, raising both its arms in the sky and slammed the ground. At this exact moment the two summons combined their abilities and used Fire Shot, firing three arrows. This damaged the dryad causing it to use Life Drain on the two. Quickly regaining back its health, the dryad used Gale blowing both Leo and Igni away. However before they could hit any hard object Merlin stopped them midair with a clever use of Light Shield. Seeing accumulation of dry leafs in the air near the dryad, Merlin realized this was their chance at killing the creature; as such she instantly ordered Igni to use Ember and Leo to follow it up with Powershot. The leaves quickly exploded in flames and combined with the Powershot a miniature horizontal fire cyclone formed killing the dryad. With her mana now extremely low, they immediately returned; Merlin had no other choice but to use her pouch to cover her wounded foot. She cut her leather pouch with the horns of the horned rabbits, ate some of the fruits and covered her foot. Following this, she slowly walked outside the forest and after a while finally exited the forest.

Finally there she was, at the spot where she stood nearly 2 years ago to better improve herself, some might say letting a 10 year old live and train inside a forest is bad parenting; however we must know that this is a world of monsters and magic, a world you can be and do almost anything with said magic. Besides this was just a minor task(or so she thought) for people who wanted to enter the prestigious Mavis’ Institute. As she stared at the large fields separating the forest and the city she let out a sigh of relief, seeing the usual line of travellers outside the city gates and the farmers working in their own fields. She started walking towards the city completely forgetting her injured foot as she looked around intently at the changes that had occurred while she was outside; the colour of the trees had changed from bright green to a greenish-orange colour as the season had changed to Solmer named after the Sun God, as such the roads were also decorated with fallen leaves. There was also a new guard post built in front of the gate which was better fortified than the previous one. A few minutes later she reached the gate and guarding there were the same people who guarded it when she left. “ Ahh, Merlin you’re finally back eh? So how was it in the forest?” asked one of the guards. “Did you get stronger like you said a year ago?” asked another guard. “It was fine, and yes I think I’ve gotten stronger than before.”, she replied. “Aww that’s great, you can just go by the wall if you still have your talisman. And welcome back.” said the guards. Saying “Ok.” she went towards the wall waving at the friendly guards. As she reached the wall, she touched her chest to see if her talisman was still there; after confirming its presence she walked to the wall completely passing through it and there she was, at the City Centre full of people walking about doing their own things. She walked down the platform onto the bustling market filled with people of different races and the nostalgic sound of conversations. The City Centre was huge and although there were lots of people, it was not tightly packed and Merlin could easily walk past the many shoppers and shops set up there. On her way to her home, a certain shopkeeper called out to her,”Ahahaha Merlin, little girl where have you been all this time? I thought you had gone and disappeared.” As she turned towards the voice, it was none other than Mr.Grimwald the old dwarven shopkeeper whom Merlin and her father would frequently buy from. “Ahh Mr.Grimwald.” she said as her face brightened “Didn’t father tell you? I was in the forest training for the entrance exams of Mavis’ Institute”. “Ahahaha so that’s what your father meant by ‘just a little camping’. Anyways want some meat buns? They just came out of the oven.” said Mr.Grimwald with the steel oven right beside him. “But I don’t have any money.” replied Merlin to which Mr.Grimwald instantly replied “Ha! Don’t worry this one’s free. It’s a welcome back gift from me. Hahaha.”.”Then thank you Mr.Grimwald.” she said in a happy tone as she took the meat buns and walked away waving at the shopkeeper.

 A few minutes later she reached the lesser populated part of City Centre known as the Council Property which was reserved for members of the Council of Magic, there were 4 apartments within the area each having a property of 45 meters square to not occupy much of the city’s space. Among the four properties was the house of Merlin, built completely out of deadwood coloured with different variations of brown (deadwood being wood found from trees of the Dead Forest known for its extreme durability). The building itself was 2 storeys high with the upper floor being bigger than the one below, supported by ether pillars on the corner of all four sides. There was also a garden and a small door on the ground which led to a training area. In the garden there was an elegant looking, beautiful silver haired woman, with shiny golden eyes wearing a black coloured full dress tending to her crops. It was Nenevi. Knowing that it was almost time for her beloved daughter to return home from her training she was full of worries; what if her daughter had changed, that was the thought which worried her the most and since she secretly casted a protection spell on her before she left home, she was sure her daughter would be safe. While deep in her thoughts she heard someone calling her ”Mom, I’m home.” and on hearing those words she immediately turned around and right in front of her was Merlin eating a meat bun and a bandaged leg. “Merlin!!” she screamed as she ran towards her daughter hugging her. “Welcome home.”, she said and continued ,”Oy Nevill, your daughter is finally home.” she yelled at her husband inside the house who came rushing out “Merlin!!!” crying his eyes out “You’re finally back.” he said as he hugged the two of them. The couple really loved their child and even had a hard time letting their only daughter go out alone into the woods. Only after their daughter persuaded them did they allow her to go; of course with a secret spell which would immediately teleport her back to them if she was in critical condition. While they were hugging each other Nevill noticed the wound on her leg and asked, “So how’s the leg?” “It's fine, dad.” replied Merlin. Merlin’s relationship with her parents were like that of close friends aside from the normal parental love from her parents; as such they normally casually talked with one another. “Is that so? Then let's get inside and after you take a bath let us celebrate your return.” said Nenevi in a cheerful tone. As such the three of them went inside and during their celebration Merlin would recount her journey to her parents.”
