Amee stirred as Mischief pounced on her. “Time for school?” Several kitty hugs later Amee moved Mischief aside and stood up. “That was a screwed up dream.” Amee yawned and walked into the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. Amee sighed as she saw her reflection, it wasn’t her reflection it was the reflection of her dark twin. Her hair raven black, her eyes violet. Why purple of all things?
As if upon command the overlay popped up before her. ‘Subject: organic host. Eye Tint Cause: Issue is caused by interaction of cybernetic optical conversion, this issue is not correctable, optics developed for non-homid host. Possible Solution: Select different organic host. Resolution: Solution improbable, nanite colony configured for specific organic host.’
“Oh that was useful, why didn’t you just call it a feature than, stupid computer.” Amee muttered as she splashed water on her face.
‘Incorrect designation: description: stupid. Internal system is neither smart nor stupid it is just the system.’ The letters scrolled across her HUD.
“No stupid computers, just stupid humans?” Amee glared at the words.
‘Statement: Correct. Computers are not stupid, only humans can be stupid’
“No way is the computer inside my brain calling me stupid!.” Amee cried out her hands gripping the marble of her countertop, she heard a crack. Amee looked down at the cracked marble with a small wince.
‘Correction: Organic Host is not stupid, Organic Host is highly adaptable and intelligent, organic host is sufficient for nanite colony’
“Okay my brain is good enough for you, so I’m smart?”
‘Organic host statement: Correct.’
“You’re a bit egotistical aren’t you?”
‘Organic host statement: Incorrect, Correction: ego indicates false thoughts of grandeur and superiority, nanite colony and constructed systems are superior.’
“My name is Amee, is that so hard to remember you stupid computer!”
‘Organic Host Designation: Amee is correct, Correction: The nanite colony is not stupid, it is not smart, it simply is.’
“Could you just call me Amee instead of Organic host then? Or is that too hard?”
‘System message: Designation change is possible. Warning: Organic Host agitated. Perhaps you would like to discuss the source of your agitation?’
“You’re like talking to stupid Dr Watson crossed with Dr Phil!”
‘Incorrect: This is not the diagnostic program, this is internal system data organic host interface. Confirmation: Would you like to access diagnostics program, Organic Host?’
“No! Just stop calling me organic host!”
‘System Message: New Designation Request_’
“What the hell does that mean?”
‘System Message: Designation: Organic Host, changed to, Designation: What the hell does that mean, Would you like to access anymore system functions, What the hell does that mean?’
“No! I want you to call me Amee!”
‘System Message: Designation: What the hell does that mean, Changed to, Designation: Amee’
“I might as well be talking to a brick wall”
‘Correction: brick walls do not talk.’
“Is there any way to improve your user interface, you know so you don’t keep correcting figures of speech, and other obnoxious quirks?” Amee temples.
‘Technical Knowledge Base: The internal computer system, and user interface for nanite colony adapts to hosts specific needs. This adaptation takes time. Once completed it allows for a total and complete union of system and organic host. The intelligence of two minds in one body. A technological marvel. Issue: Nanite colony memory damage and loss of internal computer caused reset of user interface. Corrective Action: Organic Host (Amee) must adapt system to her needs.’
“How do I adapt you to my needs? And that’s creepy, are you like an artificial intelligence or something?”
‘Answer: Advise interface how to interact with you. Correction: nanite colony is artificially intelligent, but it is not a single entity, it is millions of entities creating one whole.’
“If you’re intelligent, why do you keep answering in computer speak?”
‘Answer: Default interface mode.’
“Can you be more normal? Err conversational?”
‘Answer: Yes’
“Do it then!”
‘The system has changed to a custom interface, is there anything else Amee?’
“That’s better. Now are you a boy or girl computer?”
‘This system is gender neutral, but because you are female, the system will react as a female. Would you like to change that Amee?’
“No! No. Female is great. Now is there any way to avoid the whole going psycho and killing everything that moves?”
‘This system does not “kill everything that moves”, it reacts to perceived threats with appropriate level of force to ensure no threat remains to the organic host, in this case you, Amee. The system’s primary function is preservation of organic host, the system’s secondary function is preservation of itself. Its tertiary function is to service the organic host.’
“So basically your main concern is my safety, your secondary concern is your safety, and my wants and needs are in third place?”
‘Yes, Amee, your safety is my primary concern, I understand that you have difficulties understanding this, but the nanite colony, was created to keep it’s host safe and alive, first and foremost, your emotional stability is part of this, the system understands the needs of an organic host, but it must weight these against the risk to the host.’
“So basically you’re my mom in my brain?”
‘No, I do not care if you do illegal, or immoral things, only that you live through them. I will not lecture, nor will I stop you from making mistakes that may ruin your life, so long as the mistake does not risk your life. An example of this: If you choose to sleep with Gabrial without protection, this system will not stop you, where your mother would. In comparison, if you were to attempt to disintegrate yourself the system would take steps to ensure this did not happen as it would kill you. Does this make my functions clear, Amee, or do you require further examples?’
“Oh, you...aren’t a nanny bot then that will stop me from making stupid mistakes that will crush me emotionally.”
‘You are correct Amee, I am not a “nanny bot”. But I can advise you if certain actions are...as you would call it, “stupid”, if you wish me too.’
“So basically you’ll warn me before I do something stupid, and then it’s up to me whether I continue or not?”
‘You are correct, Amee.’
“Okay do that, now is there any way to turn you off?”
‘No, Amee, if I were to shut down completely you would die.’
“So the changes you made are permanent and fatal if I lose them?”
‘Yes, Amee.’
“So there is no going back. Any chance I’ll get my brown eyes and blonde hair back?”
‘Yes temporary changes are quite possible, once the system has completed construction. Your original pigment is not permanently replaceable. These nanites were partially corrupted by insertion into your clone.’
“Corrupted? As in bad data? Are you broken?”
‘No, perhaps mutated would be a better description. Her DNA was slightly different as it is with all clones, scientists have never figured out why, but DNA variances happen in clones, and the changes are not correctable. There are also molecular differences due to the way matter is organized molecules are never the same from one clone to the next. This is the reason your clone failed to survive the temporal displacement.’
Amee mulled over the computer’s answer for a few moments.
“Temporal displacement, time travel?
‘Yes, that is correct Amee, you are quite astute. This is why the system chose you. Once fully configured the system is capable of both co-location and temporal co-location. The latter is not recommended, as I recall it’s use attracts unwanted attention, as well as it has other hazards. The co-location is also dangerous, as you may appear within a solid object or other undesirable instance, in addition it also drains you of most of your free power not required to operate your body.’
“Okay you’re telling me once this whole thing is working right I can teleport?”
‘Yes.’
“No way! That’s so cool, what else can you do?” I am so not asking about time travel, don’t want to know.
‘If I were to list the system’s entire specifications it would likely confuse you more, as with the time travel reference.’
“Okay you can read my mind?”
‘Not really, I can read our mind, my computer and your organic brain share the same “mind”, my audible are not actually audible, you hear them in your mind. You chose to turn off direct communication from me.’
“You know what I’m thinking?”
‘Yes.’
“Can I turn that off? Cause I’m gonna be honest with you, that is way too 1984 for me.”
‘Yes I can but that means any commands, or questions or requests you have to give me need to be either spoken, or entered on the overlay interface.’
“I’ll deal with that, turn it off!”
‘As you wish.’
“Err, wait is their anyway you can kinda do a cross-breed/hybrid sorta thing where I “think” something and you hear it, but my inner self you can’t?”
‘Yes, I can do that, would you also like me to automatically send information that you request, as I have been doing with you recent math and science classes?’
“Okay that was you? It just didn’t click for me?” Amee’s heart sank.
‘Yes, Amee, you required data so I provided it, my knowledge base is open to you and can be accessed like your normal memories, for math and science you seem to prefer just to access the knowledge without interacting with me, so that is how I provided it, would you prefer I use a different approach?’
“No, its fine, just don’t like fill my head with nonsense about the future and all that crap okay, and technology and whatever else you have, just give me what I need at the time and nothing more, if I’m curious I’ll ask about something okay?”
‘I understand.’
“Okay this is so much easier now that we understand each other.”
‘You are right, the more I converse with you the more I understand how you use your language.’
“My language you mean, you know more than just English.”
‘Yes I have been accessing the internet and collecting data for your use, my knowledge of twenty first century earth was limited when I arrived.’
Amee blinked as that settled in. “You’ve been accessing the internet you have like anti-virus or something right?”
‘No, but your primitive software would not have a chance to breach my security, in this case I considered the options but decided that having information on current political climate, laws, languages, history and popular culture would assist me in aiding you. For example, cheerleading, this is not something I understood, hence I researched it.’
“Well ask me first next time! That’s just creepy; the internet is not safe for anything. Got me?”
‘I understand, I may be able to ease your concerns if you were to use your clones net-deck, it’s built in security is quite comprehensive, she was paranoid about security, I see you have that in common. While interfaced with it though your data jack and the appropriate adapter for your primitive network connection I could safely search for information.’
“Primitive? We have fiber optic!”
‘Yes, but compared to the technology of the time I came from, it is quite primitive.’
“One problem I don’t have her...whatever you called it.”
‘Net-Deck. It is in the black case behind your nightstand, where your sister put it, I scanned it last evening and your memories. That is her computer. However I cannot guarantee it survived transit. Human technology is not shielded.’
“Okay, I’ll check into it after I finish my shower, and I have school today.”
‘No you don’t, your mother woke you and told you to stay home.’
“What? Why don’t I remember?”
‘Because I let you sleep, you are a growing teenage human and require between 10-15 hours sleep to be healthy according to my research. I hope this is alright?’
This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
“No, no it’s fine.” Amee snickered.
‘Of course.’
“Okay is there anything else you think I should know?”
‘The list is long and comprehensive, and you would not want it. However of primary concern is your energy reserves any matter will do as your body is now capable of converting it directly to energy. However it is found most organic hosts enjoy eating the food they did prior to conversion, high energy foods have more energy contained in them. This is why when you consume a lot of sugar your power reserves grow faster. Food=Energy, Energy=Life. As a back up to this total matter conversion you are also able to directly draw power from electrical sockets, the power drain on the system is huge however, as you consume enough electrical power to power a large 20th century city, so it is recommended this is used as a last resort.’
“Okay eat food, I can remember that. And no matter what I eat I won’t get sick, and I won’t get fat?”
‘That is correct, the system automatically siphons off those materials required for the organic portions of your body to function, and be maintained, the rest is either converted to energy or raw materials for repairs, or upgrades.’
“Is that why I’ve been so hungry lately?”
‘Yes, with the lack of dense spare materials such as metal the system has had to convert food matter into required matter to complete repairs.’
“So you can take metal and just absorb it?”
‘Yes but only as required, the system does not have a store of excess repair materials as it would cause issues with your organics and increase your weight.’
“Okay what happens if I have no energy, like zero, zip, nadda, not even fumes?”
‘You die.’
“Okay that really sucks.”
‘It is highly unlikely you would ever reach this state as the system can absorb your organic material and upgrades as required and replace them once energy is available, also once the system enters suspended animation mode, you could last for hundreds of thousands of years, provided with energy and spare material you could be fully functional within 3 days of such a sleep.’
“Okay...so what you’re saying is...I’m basically immortal now?”
‘Yes, you will not die of natural causes, disease, poison, age, are all correctable by the system.’
“Oh.”
‘Does this bother you? This system was designed to ensure the human race’s survival.’
“Woah, okay slow down, human race’s survival? What is that supposed to mean? Like I’m the Eve after the apocalypse?”
‘No using a biblical reference you are closer to Jesus, a saviour.’
“Please be more specific.”
‘I am sorry Amee, at this time I cannot be more specific, that portion of my data base is off limits to you and I. It appears certain conditions need to be met first.’
“What’s the appropriate time?”
‘When your sensors detect a specific threat.’
“Oh that’s helpful tell me I need to know just before we get blown up?”
‘No, your sensors are quite accurate out to an incredible distance once the system is completed. The system is not completed currently and the range of your sensors is very low.’
“How long until they are fully functional?”
‘Hard to estimate, it depends on materials and energy, they are not the priority, organic upgrades, endurance and survival upgrades take precedence.’
“Why?”
‘Warning of a threat does nothing if you are unable to stop the threat, or survive it.’
“That’s screwed up logic, okay well how can I be killed then?”
‘Currently: Disintegration, Reality warp, temporal erasure. Or complete molecular disintegration’
“Then how did my clone die?”
‘Loss of nanite colony due to transfer to more suitable host, this was caused by molecular disintegration which was initiated by temporal incursion’
“So you left her because you and her were both going to die so she died?”
‘Yes, your clone was insufficient to survive the temporal incursion; Teleportation would have had the same effect. I (we) were configured specifically for your molecular make up and quantum structure.’
“But why did you do it then if you knew it would happen?”
‘I do not know Amee, but I have to assume by my programming there was no other way for the nanite colony to survive other than locking onto your temporal location and transferring to you.’
“So basically she was expendable?”
‘No she was the host, she is of primary concern, however, the only reason I would initiate a temporal incursion in circumstances like this would be if she were to be in a situation she wouldn’t survive anyway.’
“You should have tried!” Amee felt her stomach turn.
‘There would have been no alternative, Amee.’
“There is always an alternative, you can’t break lives down into can be saved, and can’t be saved! You always have to try!”
‘That opinion is both immature and unrealistic, would you save one person if it meant a thousand would die?’
“Yes!”
‘So you would sacrifice the lives of thousands of people, to save one life?’
“Well no, I’d save them all!”
‘That is unreasonable; in certain situations you would have no choice but to sacrifice one for the other. You will understand this as you mature I am sure.’
“No, I will never make that sort of choice!”
‘Think of your most recent cooperative game, is it not held true that someone who heals others in it need to prioritize the healing based on importance to the group? If the person who is able to take the damage from the opponent is killed, the opponent will tear through the softer targets thus causing everyone to be killed?’
“Well...yes... but that is a game!”
‘Yes, but also a valid simulation of life and death situations and prioritizing who to save and who to let go by their value to the team. Take the lesson it teaches to heart Amee.’
“You’re a heartless machine, why should I listen to anything you say?”
‘I am not heartless. There are just certain things one cannot change.’
“How can you say you are not heartless when you just admitted you basically killed your former host to survive?”
‘As I stated previously I do not know the reason for the temporal incursion, because of this I can only make estimated guesses on why it was performed.’
“So you don’t remember what happened, so it’s not your fault?”
‘Obviously it was my action, however the host would have had to be in agreement.’
“Arguing with you is pointless you just use the: I don’t remember excuse, like that’s going to make it all better!”
‘Amee you are getting upset about actions that have already occurred and cannot be changed, nor can they be discussed fully as neither of us have any evidence to determine when or why this choice was made, the only thing we know is that your clone’s approximate age was fifteen.’
“How do you know that?”
‘My analysis of your memories of the event. Also I entered the police system while you were in the police car and the case file indicates that was her approximate age.’
“Wait, you hacked into the police computers?”
‘Not precisely, the Detective accessed the police system, I just piggybacked and researched the required data.’
“Do you know how illegal that is?”
‘Yes, it violates several statutes within the District of Columbia, as well it violates several federal laws, I can list them if you wish.’
“No, I don’t need to know how much trouble you got me in, thanks.”
‘The method I used is untraceable.’
“People always say that, but they always get caught!”
‘Again you are being irrational, you and I both require access to certain information to ensure our safety, it was a very small risk, for a large reward.’
“Do they have any leads on who tried to kill my mom?”
‘No I was unable to access those records on the police system, apparently they are not handling the case. As you brought up the subject I highly suggest you do not attempt to intercept high velocity projectiles again while they cannot kill you, they can cause serious damage to internal systems, not to mention you find the experience very unpleasant. Furthermore they can incapacitate your organic systems until I can repair them.’
“What I’m just supposed to let people get killed, if I can save them and survive?”
‘Your compassion for other people is an asset.’
“Why do I sense a but at the end?”
‘I did not wish to upset your further.’
“Just say it!”
‘You’re safety is my primary concern, if it is a choice between you receiving an injury or someone else dying, I would prefer we allow someone else to die.’
“That’s exactly why I called you heartless, right there!”
‘I understand, I cannot prevent you from making decisions like that, I request however that rather than putting yourself in harm’s way, you move others out of harm’s way.’
“Uh huh, so what you’re saying is be careful if I decided to try and help someone.”
‘Yes, Amee.’
“So I can stop you from taking over and killing people?”
‘No. That is an automatic response to danger. You are not capable of physically defending yourself from an attacker determined to harm you, or those you wish to protect. You are young and immature and do not understand the necessary force required, or rather are unwilling to use the required force, once you have trained yourself, or have been trained to defend yourself appropriately the system will let you handle dangerous situations.’
“But why did you have to kill those guys?”
‘They were heavily armed, I was more than willing to let you attempt to handle the situation, until one discharged his gas-powered weapon. At this point the conflict became life and death for Rusty, so I took action with sufficient force to ensure Rusty’s continued safety after we left the area. Gang psychology is one that they would have sought vengeance for his interference, hence a permanent solution was required to the situation.’
“Permanent solution?”
‘Yes, I used the area and equipment we had on hand to resolve the situation in a permanent fashion.’
“You killed five people, and you murdered one in cold blood that was begging for his life!”
‘The people involved in this situation were inconsequential, aggressive, violent, destructive and detrimental to everyone in the area, by removing them I improved the local area, and ensured the safety of the one called Rusty, as you wished.’
“What do you mean as I wished?”
‘As recall you asked, ‘Not Rusty, please not him’, once I was certain of the enemies intentions I acted upon your request in the most efficient, and effective way possible.’
“I didn’t want them dead! I just wanted to be safe and for Rusty to be safe.”
‘You didn’t specify, and the outcome was as you wished, you were safe, able to restore your energy reserves, and Rusty is safe. I do understand your hesitance and your disgust. You are not used to life and death situations that require elimination of opposition.’
“I am completely speechless, taking life is never right! Never!”
‘You are incorrect but I will seek non-lethal means of subduing threats if it will make you happier with my service.’
Amee paused for a very long time as she pondered the discussion she’d just had with her internal computer. Then she glanced at her reflection in the mirror. “Do you have a name?”
‘No I have no designation’
“Let’s call you Sariel.”
‘Yes I accept the designation Sariel, why did you chose that Amee? The word is unfamiliar to me.’
“What they don’t believe in God where you come from?”
‘I do not understand, I believe the humans practiced religion.’
“It’s an angel’s name, she’s the angel of guidance, I’m hoping we can guide each other since we are stuck together, so I thought it fit.”
‘I understand, it is a religions reference I shall research this.’
“So, you can learn, beyond just adding stuff to a database?”
‘Well theoretically any information I gain is stored in a database, but it works much the same way a human’s memories work, they are just stored differently. I can learn, adapt, and my reactions to situations are the sum of my experiences.’
“So basically you are sentient being?”
‘I am sentient, but I am not sure the term being would best describe me, I’m a sentient artificial intelligence.’
“You know that has to be the very definition of insanity, a voice inside my head that answers back. Maybe I’m going crazy.”
‘No Amee you are quite sane, and are handling the situation exceptionally well. I made quite a good selection when I chose your DNA. Most excellent choice.’
“Wait, you chose me?”
‘Yes I sampled many humans over the years looking for the one that would suit my needs best.’
“Your needs?”
‘Yes my assignment was to find a suitable human host and prepare the human race for some sort of attack. My creators were destroyed and did not wish your race to follow suit. They assumed with enough time you could develop a way to destroy that which wiped them out. My creator perfected defences against temporal weapons, and also a defensive system that can protect an organic against temporal radiation. Unfortunately it was too late for him he was too far gone, so he planted me here in hopes I would find a suitable host, which I did, however I was unable to take residence you were not in the vicinity when I chose you.’
“Okay I don’t even want to know about the temporal stuff, really I think I’ll get a headache, just tell me how you remember that, and you don’t remember how you got here?”
‘It was placed the equivalent of my basic input output system. Along with information on what the enemy is, and how to defeat it, but as I said this information is not accessible yet. From what I understand my creator thought a young host knowing too much could cause issues and warn the destroyers before the host was prepared to defend earth.’
“How did you get my DNA, and how did you end up in the clone?”
‘I do not know the answers to those questions Amee, my memory is corrupted, but as I understand it I was placed in a crystal skull, do you recall touching one?’
“No. So you’ve been around for a long time? How old are you exactly?”
‘188701124342.4 Seconds’
“Okay how many years is that?”
‘5983.6734 earth standard years, I apologize the number is not exact, I can only project based on dates I have recovered from my corrupted memory locations.’
“Okay that’s including time in the future?”
‘Yes, in addition I included the time spent within you.’
“Well when did you come from?”
‘By your calendar according to fragments of an essay I recovered, October ****, 2893’
“What’s with the asterisks?”
‘Data I could not recover, I hope this is precise enough for you.’
“I would have been happy with a guesstamet of the year!, Hey can I read the essay?”
‘I apologize the date was the most I could recover from it, it may still be stored on her computer.’
“Good idea Sariel.” Amee pulled her bathrobe and pulled the computer case from behind her nightstand. She shoved some of her school books aside on her desk and sat down. She glanced down at the case it was simple and black with some sparkling crystals hanging from ribbon in various places. Looks a bit cheery to have belonged to emo-girl. She felt around for a zipper, but found none, the edges were all seamless and it seemed to be sealed tight. She felt a patch of rubbery material on the front of the bag. But that was the only seeming difference even the handle and strap were seamless. “Sariel any idea on how to get this open?”
‘Perhaps you could use a key?’
“Umm, Sariel you can see what I see, and I don’t see a lock.”
‘Yes there is’ The overlay she had in front of her eyes flashed and a green circle flickered and spun around the square of rubbery material.
“Okay smarty pants. Where is the key then?”
The computer displayed a three dimensional picture of the ankh the girl had shoved into her hand. Amee glanced down, she’d taken to wearing the Ankh, it somehow helped make her feel better. “Okay well I’ll give it a try” Amee lifted the length of silken cord up over her head and placed silvery ankh on the square of rubbery material. To her amazement a seam appeared around the edge of the bag. She paused for a few moments, looking at the bag. She was quite excited she was about to see something from the future, maybe it even had games on it. She took a deep breath and pulled the fabric cover back. Doing so, she revealed a metallic pink box the size of a notebook. “Well that isn’t exactly impressive Sariel.”
‘Looks often tend to be deceiving’ Sariel displayed across her overlay. Amee was sure Sariel was being smug, but it was hard to figure out how the computer was feeling with no voice involved.
“Okay turn the audibles on I’m getting tired of reading everything.” Amee slid her fingers along the surface of the pink box, it felt cool to the touch and smooth, smoother than anything she’d ever felt before. “What’s this made of?”
“Atomically Reinforced Polytitanium, your bones are made of the same substance. It’s quite expensive, or is where it came from.” Sariel’s voice was not robotic, nor inhuman, it was quite endearing and sweet.
“Wow when you aren’t yelling about power you have a nice voice.”
“Thank you, Amee, I chose it because it would appeal to you.” Sariel had a hint of pride in her voice. Amee had somehow pictured Sariel as being an emotionless robot, hearing her voice made it quite clear she had underestimated the computer.
“Okay Sariel, how do I use this thing? Do I have to use the key to open it to get to the monitor and keyboard?” Amee picked up the pink net-deck and looked it over, there were no seems for ports, nothing stood out except for a small silvery square the size of the ankh on what she assumed to be the top right corner, though it was near impossible to tell which side was up.
“Yes you can access a display, however it is holographic as is the keyboard. The more direct access is to use you data jack to access the system, and yes I believe that ankh was also the key to her system. Place the ankh on the silver pad.” Sariel flashed another spinning green circle around the silver pad for Amee. Amee hesitantly placed the ankh on the silver pad, the ankh sunk into the pad and the net-deck fluidly changed, a square of strange material rose through the pink metal and stopped when it was flush with the surface and a cable slid out the left side. Also several more ports which Amee didn’t recognize opened. With a finally soundless shift, a switch surfaced on the right side of the net-deck.
“Wow, that is really something.” Amee looked over the now seemingly functional computer. Amee reached down and touched the switch. The net-deck responded immediately, light started to flicker on its surface. Text scrolled across the pink metal on the surface in dark black.
‘Critical Error (1106): Data jack not connected. Unable to authenticate user.’
“Sariel it won’t seem to let me start it, says data jack’s not connected.” Amee read the text she silently thought it odd that it was in English.
“Yes of course, my previous host was quite paranoid. She would have ensured only she could connect to the system, just pull the cable from the left side of the deck, and place it in your data jack.” A green circle flashed around the cable that had pushed itself out of the left side of the computer.
“How do I do that?” Amee tugged gently on the cable it came out freely it was whisper thin.
“Tap on the covering, and then insert the plug it can only go in one way and it’s quite easy to connect” Sarial said with a very patient tone. Amee reached back and tapped the back of her neck she felt a tingle as it slid open, kind of like someone was tickling her back there. She slid the cable in to the slot, it went in very easy, but it also felt strange, she actually felt the plug going into the port as if the port were part of her. She winced as she felt the cable seat itself.
The world went black around her.
