Amee jolted upright. The light burned her eyes she clinched them closed. She heard a slow steady beep beside her. She slowly forced open her eyes. A few seconds later she was able to make out general shapes, and then color. She felt her chest and shoulder. No injuries. It was a bad dream. Once her eyes were accustomed to the light she took a better look around herself. She was in a hospital room. Her curtains were open and the sun was streaming through. She tried to move legs but she found she couldn’t. She looked up at the IV in her arm.
She let herself fall backwards into her pillows.
“Oh god.”
She closed her eyes. She put her hand on her forehead. She had the worst headache she could remember. She heard footsteps rushing towards her room, her door opened and three people poured in.
Amee heard a woman speaking, “I swear doctor her monitor spiked, I thought she might be awake.”
Amee heard the footsteps get closer, she didn’t really want to open her eyes, it made the headache worse, but she did any way to avoid having them forced open.
“I’m awake I just have the worst headache, I think it’s a migraine the light hurts.” Her voice was rough, as if from disuse.
“I’ll get you something for the pain.”
Amee had closed her eyes again, the voice was female. “I just want to take some vital signs, then we’ll leave you be.”
Amee nodded. “Please something for the pain, fast.” Her voice sounded clearer that time.
She put her arm over her eyes. She heard someone closing the curtains.
Amee felt the doctor taking her pulse. Then the cold touch of a stethoscope. She felt the IV in her arm tug gently.
Then she felt the pain subsiding. “That should make it more bearable. If you need anything just buzz the nurses, welcome back Amee.”
Amee nodded absently to the disembodied female voice. Amee fell back asleep. It was a welcome sleep, even with the pain medication it felt like someone had cracked her skull in two.
Amee wasn’t sure how long she slept for but she woke up again. The pain in her head was gone. She felt her stomach churning. She was hungry, really hungry. She rubbed her eyes and looked around the room, it was a private room, well appointed. The sun had set. She reached for the nurse buzzer but she stopped suddenly. Oh no! She reached behind her neck she felt skin, but as she pressed where the metal plug-in had been something slid out from under her fingers and she felt metal again.
“Oh god, they are going to dissect me.”
She panicked and tried to stand. She flopped out of bed in a tangle of iv lines, and sheets her legs refused to move.
“They paralyzed me so I couldn’t escape.”
She heard a monotone beep, and alarm. She looked up to see the source. Her vital signs monitor had flat-lined. She clinched her eyes shut cursing to herself. She heard the door open, and people hurry in.
“Let’s get her back into bed, watch that IV line, check the needle.”
She felt herself lifted onto the bed and the IV in her arm was reinserted.
“Are you alright Amee?”
“Let me go!” Amee struggled against the doctor, nurses and orderlies.
“I’m not going to let you dissect me!”
“Hold her down.” The doctor pulled out a needle. He injected into her IV.
“You can’t do this!”
Amee struggled with all her might, but she was powerless against the strength of the orderlies.
“Calm down, Ms. Morris!” The doctor said loudly. “We are not here to hurt you.”
Amee tried to struggle but she felt herself getting weaker. She felt her eyes closing against her will.
“You drug-“ Amee tried to speak, but the world went black.
The next time Amee woke up she felt herself strapped down to the bed. She heard voices talking above her. She kept her eyes closed and pretended to still be asleep.
“I’m sorry you had to see her strapped down ma’am, but she woke up last night and kept on going on about being dissected. It took four orderlies and two nurses to hold her down. They found her laying on the floor, it’s for her own safety. Once she’s calmed down and more lucid we’ll remove them.” She heard a familiar female voice say.
“But she’s going to be alright.” Amee heard her mother speaking.
“Well, about that, maybe we should discuss this alone, Mrs. Morris.” The other female voice said.
“Of course, Agent you can wait outside, don’t let us be disturbed.” She heard her mother say. Amee heard the door close.
“Mrs. Morris, if I understand her admission examination, she had been shot four times by a large caliber sniper rifle?”
“Yes, someone was trying to assassinate me.”
“There is no evidence she was ever shot, except for these laying on the gurney.”
Amee heard something exchange hands, and her mother gasping.
“That can’t be I saw her, she was bleeding all over our kitchen floor, I saw the bullet holes. Doctor Lu, this is not funny.”
“I am not trying to be funny Mrs. Morris. I am telling you the truth, she had no signs of injury within thirty minutes of being admitted.”
“But she’s been in a coma for a week.”
“Yes, and I have a theory about that too, these are her x-rays.”
Amee heard plastic being shuffled around, and Doctor Lu speaking again. “These are her bones.”
“I don’t see anything wrong, but then again, I’m not a doctor.”
“Her bones, they are much too dense, do you see this here? It’s metal, solid metal. Even her skull. And these are nano-fibers attached to her nervous system. We can only see them because there are so many. And this x-ray is a day after she was admitted to hospital, do you see the difference, her bones look normal.”
“You must have a faulty x-ray machine.”
“No we don’t, I’ve had it used on other patients, and we’ve x-rayed your daughter three times, in different x-ray machines, they were all the same. Somehow her entire skeletal structure has been turned into steel. And here if you look here, she has wiring connecting this port to her brain and her nervous system. And her brain has several metallic components now.”
“Okay enough of this fantasy of yours doctor. I’m reporting you to the hospital, and the medical association.”
“Please, senator, don’t do anything rash. I’m being absolutely truthful with you, this is not something I wanted to share with my colleagues, your daughter is a miracle of science, and think of your campaign, if this got out, you, your husband experimenting on your own child.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? Are you threatening me Doctor Lu?”
“No, no you misunderstand me, my main concern is your daughter.”
“But you are talking nonsense.”
“I know, what do you think I thought when I first saw these. It’s not medically possible for a human being to survive this kind of invasive surgery. Of course it’s not possible she survived those gunshots either, she lost more blood then a human body holds, and she still survived. Her lung was practically non-existent, and it pierced her heart but by the time I saw it, the wound was sealed and her lungs were empty of blood. I cannot explain this.”
“This is impossible, these have to be doctored.”
“Mrs. Morris, I will prove it, come over here.” Amee felt someone lifting her neck. “Look back here.” Amee felt a finger tap on the back of her neck and she felt the door slide open. She heard her mother gasp again.
“Do you see?”
“What I see is you’ve been doing illegal surgeries on my daughter!”
“No, no you don’t understand she had that when she showed up here, it wasn’t even covered yet, and if I didn’t want to risk waking her I would show you her eyes.”
“What about her eyes?”
“They are purple, and, she has electronics below the surface, microscopic machines, your daughter probably sees into spectrums of light, other humans can’t even dream of.”
“Say for a second I believe your wild story, how do we fix her?”
“Fix her? We can’t fix her. We can’t, every piece of bone in her body has been replaced with metal, the wiring in her brain is so complex and invasive we’d leave her in a vegetative state if we tried to remove even one percent of it.”
“So what you’re saying is my daughter is half machine?”
“What I am saying is your daughter is the perfect hybrid of human and machine. She’s still changing. I’ve also determined that if we increase nutrients, we also increase the rate of change. And the power usage in this room is more than the entire hospital.”
“Who have you told about this?”
“No one, I have an oath to uphold, even if the technology in your daughter could save millions of lives.”
“Keep it that way.”
“Of course.”
“Just so we understand each other, if anyone finds out about this besides myself, and my husband, you will never work in any industrialized nation, ever again. And if I find out you take any samples, or run anymore tests…”
“But Mrs. Morris if you would just consider letting me take a look at the bone physically. And the nervous system, it’s not a serious surgery, we could learn so much.”
“No, my daughter is not your lab rat, Doctor Lu. Am I being crystal clear?”
“Yes.”
“Good, I’ll be back at seven tonight, you have her unstrapped by then.”
“Of course.”
Amee heard her mother leave. And she heard the doctor pacing. Amee opened her eyes. It was strange now she had an overlay, a hud if you will, she could see Doctor Lu’s vitals with a glance. She inspected the woman more closely. She was Asian, mid-thirties, few grey hairs, not a tall woman. She had a flashing red sign in front of her eyes now. ‘Low Power’. She heard a disembodied female voice saying, “Power levels critical, repair functions offline.”
“Did you hear that?” Amee looked around for the source of the voice.
Doctor Lu jumped a little, she looked at Amee. “Did I hear what?”
“Never mind, can you get rid of these things?” Amee gave a small yank on the straps holding her down.
“Sorry, Amee, you were upset last night, we had to restrain you, are you okay now?” Doctor Lu started to remove the bindings.
Amee nodded, “Yes I’m fine, just starving.”
“Of course, I’ll see if I can get you something, we’ll get lunch ordered for you as well.” Doctor Lu smiled, Amee could tell from her HUD that Doctor Lu was nervous. Increased heart rate, accelerated breathing, all signs she was under a lot of stress. Doctor Lu unstrapped her.
Amee lifted her arms and closed her fists. She tried to move her legs again, they were sluggish to respond but she was able to raise her feet a few inches.
“It’s good to see you are getting some mobility again.” Doctor Lu moved over to check Amee’s vital signs. “You are recovering very quickly.”
Amee looked at her hand as she closed it into a fist and opened it again. A disembodied voice advised her, “Optical output has been shut down to conserve power.” The overlay before her eyes vanished. She blinked, and looked around. “Did you hear it that time?”

“No, I didn’t hear anything Amee, are you sure you are alight?” Doctor Lu picked up Amee’s chart and made a note.
“I’m fine, must be hearing things because I’ve been drugged up so much lately.” Amee rubbed her wrists, and gave a reassuring smile to Doctor Lu. Last thing I need is for Doctor Frankenstien to start poking my ears.
“Alright then, don’t go trying to stand up, I’m Doctor Lu by the way. Food will be on the way shortly.”
Doctor Lu left the room after placing Amee’s chart back at the foot of the bed.
Amee leaned forward and snagged it with her hand. She turned it around and started to read it. She flipped through it, reading quickly. Comatose, no visible signs of injury, blood report negative for toxins, negative for insulin, Patient is awake, Patient is suffering from dementia? “Dementia?” Amee shook her head and read further down. Patient is suffering from paranoid delusions. Amee’s eyes scanned the last entry, the one Doctor Lu entered. ‘Patient is lucid, showing signs of appetite.’ Amee quirked an eyebrow. She didn’t put down anything about me hearing things, and no reference anywhere in the chart to the metal bones, or wiring on her nervous system. Amee pondered what Doctor Lu’s motives might be. Amee heard someone coming she hastily slid the chart into its holder at the end of her bed.
Doctor Lu put down a tray of food, it wasn’t hospital food, “Lunch isn’t for three hours and you missed breakfast, I got you something from the cafeteria.”
Amee looked down at the tray, it was piled high with high energy foods, “Thanks Doctor Lu.”
Amee picked up a piece of toast, and started eating it. As fast as she swallowed it she was already onto the next piece of food. She didn’t even bother tasting she just devoured it ravenously. She didn’t look up but she knew Doctor Lu was observing her. Normally it would have bothered her, but right now she was starving. Within a few minutes the tray was empty, and she was still hungry. She looked up at Doctor Lu, who was looking down at the tray. Doctor Lu’s expression was one of awe. She wordlessly leaned down and picked up the tray and left the room.
Amee leaned back, “Ya stare at the fat pig.”
A few minutes later Doctor Lu and a nurse returned carrying two tray’s heaping with food. Doctor Lu put her tray down, “Put the tray down Tracy, then you can get back to your rounds.” The nurse put the tray down, she gave the doctor a weird look. She looked down at Amee. Then back to Doctor Lu.
“Whatever you say Doctor, I hope you know what you’re doing.” The nurse smiled to Amee, then left the room.
“Go ahead eat your fill.” Doctor Lu closed the door.
Amee tried to resist the mountain of food before her but she failed miserably. She felt the gnawing in her stomach. She reached out and grabbed the first nutrient bar and she ate it in two bites. She ate her way through the pile of food, it must have been enough for seven or eight teens her size. She leaned back holding her stomach. She thought she would feel sick, or bloated, but she didn’t. “Power systems charging.” The disembodied voice said. “Non-critical Systems being brought online.” The HUD appeared before her eyes, she blinked, but it was still there. A button flashed in a corner. It read ‘Repair Status Report’. She poked a finger at it. The button flashed and a floating diagram of her body appeared before her. She watched text scroll by. It referred to complete loss of cybernetic functions. The side of the list had a scroll bar. She tapped it. The scroll stopped, by sliding her finger up and down on it she was able to scroll through the list. “This is so cool.”
“What is?” She heard Doctor Lu’s voice. Amee jolted and blushed self consciously. “What is it you are looking at?”
“Umm, nothing, just seeing if my fingers still work.” Amee scrambled for words, she was never good at lying, at least face to face.
“Amee, I know you are dealing with some strange changes right now, I’m here to help, but you need to be honest with me.” Doctor Lu leaned forward from the end of the bed.
“Well ya, puberty is a huge change.” Amee said, trying to look innocent, like Amber did all the time. The doctor obviously wasn’t buying it, her expression became stern.
“Amee, I know about the changes you are really going through. I won’t say I understand it, but I will tell you what happens is between you and I, I have to inform your parents of certain things, but otherwise what you say is private.” Doctor Lu sat on the edge of the bed.
“Power system’s fully charged, nervous system repair proceeding, mobility to affected body sites will be reduced, in some cases affected areas may be offline.” Amee felt her legs turn into dead weight as the disembodied voice spoke again.
“What’s wrong?” Doctor Lu looked concerned. Amee tried to conceal the look of shock on her face as she felt herself become paralyzed from the waist down. Doctor Lu seemed too good at judging people. “Amee, what is going on?”
Amee felt tears start to seep out of her eyes. “I…I can’t move my legs.” Amee felt herself start to gasp for breath. She was panicking.
“Amee calm down, you’re alright, your body is changing, it may have disconnected you’re pain reception, and your mobility so the changes would not cause you pain.” Doctor Lu put a comforting hand on Amee’s sholder. “Do you want me to sedate you while it does this?”
Amee shook her head violently, “No, no more drugs!”
“Shh, shh, It’s okay Amee I won’t give you anything else then, just keep calm.” Doctor Lu continued to stroke Amee’s hair. “You will be alright. The changes have never caused you harm.”
Amee felt herself shaking violently. She grabbed clutched Doctor Lu. She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. She felt herself calming. The doctor was right, she was fine, these were just more of the changes.
“Much better, I will come check on you in a few hours, relax, watch some television.” Doctor Lu smiled reassuringly.
Amee nodded. Doctor Lu collected the three trays and left the room, closing the door behind her.
Amee waited for the doctor to leave the room, and then she started scrolling through the list of repairs:
Replicating Nano-cells, 100 percent complete.
Matter conversion rebuilt, 100 percent complete.
Nanowire connections to nervous system initiated, 75 percent complete.
Data jack replacement, 100 percent complete.
Energy Storage Matrix rebuilt, 100 percent complete.
Bone conversion to Atomically Reinforced Polytitanium based fluidic metal, 100 percent complete.
“Whatever the hell that is…” She said to herself. She tapped the Polytitanium. Another batch of floating text appeared before her, “Fluidic Polytitanium is a metal that is used to form air ship hulls. It’s highly durable, and still malleable after being worked. Thus during flight it can be used to adapt ship configuration based on weather conditions to maintain efficient fuel usage, and maneuverability. It’s most important trait is the ability to self-repair, if supplied with power and spare metal of any description it can rebuild itself. Atomically Reinforced Polytitanium is the standard hull for our space vessels. Fluidic Polytitanium is poured over a carbon nanotube lattice. Once this is done, nanites are used to bond the Polytitanium to the lattice. The result is an ultra-hard metallic plating. That is still self repairing. Atomically Reinforced Polytitanium is the strongest substance ever discovered. Fluidic Polytitanium was discovered by…” Amee stopped reading at that point. The rest was a history lesson that made no sense. Amee tapped on the window twice and it closed.
“Okay, what’s next?” Amee scrolled down the list:
Lung replacement, 100 percent complete.
Optical Pigment correction, 100 percent complete
Optical Repair, 100 percent complete
Optical Sensor Enhancement, 100 percent complete.
Optical User Interface repair, 100 percent complete.
The List went on and on. Amee didn’t understand most of it, and even after asking for more information on the subjects she was still as clueless.
Amee started to get tired. She tried to keep her eyes open, she wanted know about her new body. As scary as it was, it couldn’t override what April would have called the coolness factor. She felt her head droop, and her eyes closed. She tried to resist but she fell asleep.
Amee opened her eyes and looked around herself. It was dark but her eyes compensated. She could see fine. Pipes were running either side of the corridor she found herself in. People huddled down here, by the pipes. It was hot, and humid where ever she was. The people were staring at her. She spun in a three hundred and sixty degree turn. They looked like street people. “Hostiles approaching, south, at current speed they will intercept us in fifty seconds. Suggested actions: Run, disguise as dreg, or fight. Calculations indicate fight as most likely to result in escape.
“What? Fight who? What the hell is going on?” Amee looked around in confusion. None of this was making sense. She looked at her heads up display, it was requesting instructions. “Run, damn it.” She said in annoyance. These audible and HUD warnings were getting obnoxious.
“Calculating most efficient path.” Amee watched as a map appeared before her in a three dimensional hologram. Amee started to run where the computer told her to. She heard gunfire behind her about thirty seconds later.
“What’s that? What’s happening?” Amee stopped and looked behind her.
“Scanning.” Came the female voice. “Dreg life signs have decreased by one hundred percent. Hostiles have engaged them.”
“But..they weren’t armed, what kind of monsters are these?” Amee was horrified, who would murder homeless people in cold blood.
“Engage pursuit mode, and tactical battle mode?” The voice asked.
Amee felt herself being shaken. She jumped in shock. She closed her eyes against the light. “Amee, are you alright? It’s your mom.” Amee heard her mother’s voice.
“Data fragment recovered.” The voice inside Amee’s head overlapped her mother’s so she could barely understand either.
“Would you shut up already!” Amee said through clinched teeth.
“Okay…sorry, I’ll come back later then.” Amee winced, her mother seemed to think she had been talking to her.
“Audibles off” The voice said.
“Not you mom.” Amee reached for her mother’s arm.
“What’s going on Amee?” Her mother asked her, she looked concerned.
“Just my ears ringing sorry.” Amee smiled, the lies were getting easier.
“Oh, How are you feeling otherwise?” Amee’s mother sat down beside the bed.
“I’ve been better mom.” Amee smiled half-heartadly, that was an honest answer at least. She rubbed her eyes. That dream had seemed so real.
“I can imagine, your father is sorry he couldn’t be here, there was an emergency and he was called away.” Her mother reached for her hand. Amee took it, and squeezed tightly. “I really don’t know how to say this Amee, but you saved your father and I. Well I suppose first of all, never do that again! You could have been killed. And secondly, thanks.” Her mother squeezed her hand tightly.
“Don’t worry mom, I am never jumping in front of bullets again, it hurt, a lot.” Amee smiled, she tried to put on a brave face, but she was still suffering from nightmares about the bullets hitting her. “I’m sorry I scared you mom, and I’m sorry I left the house like that with Amber.”
“It’s forgotten already Amee, right now you focus on getting better.” Amee felt her mother fix a stray hair on her forehead. “Your hair looks nice when it’s black.”
“You really think so?” Amee smiled, she was quite happy to avoid the subject of her miraculous recovery, and her transformation. Her mother nodded. “How is the campaign going mom?”
“It’s going good, I took a bit of a break after you were hurt. Apparently someone trying to assassinate me helped my numbers.” Her mother laughed. “But to be more serious, I’m not going back on the road until you get out of the hospital.”
“You should go mom, October is huge, you only have three weeks until the election.” Amee squeezed her mother’s hand.
“As true as that might be, we decided it was best if you have at least one of us nearby.” Her mother stroked her hand.
“I’m fifteen mom, I’m a big girl, I can handle being alone.” Amee sighed, she was getting mad again. Why can’t I say more than two words to my mother before we get into an argument?
“You are having nightmares, something is happening to you that must be so,” her mother searched for the word, “I don’t even think I have words to describe what you are going through, you need your family now more than ever.”
Amee nodded silently. She kept her true thoughts hidden, sure mom, need family more than ever, but if you don’t spend time with me until I get out of the hospital you’ll look like a monster and no one will vote for you. “I’m sorta tired mom.”
“Okay, I brought you some snacks, Doctor Lu said you need them. She also guaranteed me you wouldn’t gain weight.” Her mother put two bags stuffed to full of candy, chocolate, and other high calorie foods. Amee did her best to not start grabbing greedily, she was sorely tempted. Her body kept depleting its energy reserves trying to repair itself.
“Thanks mom.” Amee slipped her hand into the bag and pulled out a chocolate bar.
“Well, I’ll let you get some rest.” Amee’s mother gave her a hug and walked out of the room.
“Finally.” Amee waited about thirty seconds and started to tear into the pile of food beside her. Normally she’d be sick after the second chocolate bar, but she was on her fifth already and she wasn’t slowing down.
Amee grabbed the pile of wrappers and stuffed them in her garbage. “Now let’s try this body out.” Amee attempted to stand. It was easy this time. She bounced, and then spun in place a few times, dancing with her IV bag. Her body felt so much more graceful then before. She did another pirouette, she felt like a ballet dancer. “This is so cool.” Amee giggled. She was giddy with the feeling of how easy her body moved. “Grace of a Ballet dancer, and I can get shot four times and live. Wonder if…” Amee leaned under the bed and tried to shift to her amazement she barely noticed its weight as she lifted the end of it. “I’m like a super hero.” She noticed something flashing on her HUD, it was her energy levels, it seemed when she lifted the bed her energy stores dropped just slightly. “So if I do something weird, it uses energy.” She smacked herself in the forehead. “Of course you do goof, same as if you were normal and worked out you’d use up energy.” She giggled and spun again. She was giddy with the feeling of being special. Then she suddenly frowned, “Wonder if I make metal detectors go off?”
In response her HUD displayed a blurb of text. ‘Metal Detectors: Common even in modern day, they first came to wide scale use in pre-freeze twentieth century, they allow the detection of metallic substances, ferrous and non-ferrous.’ ‘Supposition: Unlikely. Primitive technology should not detect components contained in host.’
Amee tapped her chin. “So if I ask questions, you answer?”
‘Answer: That is correct.’ Her internal computer answered by placing holographic text on her HUD.
“How did you make reinforced fluidic metal?” She asked, she was very curious as to how these devices were being built. She blinked at the schematics that scrolled in front of her, she couldn’t understand any of it. “Please use the dumb blonde answer.”
“Answer: Used spare metal in vicinity of host, recombined it into fluidic metal. Carbon honeycomb built from carbon provided from host bones.”
“Host?” Amee hopped on her bed.
‘Host: Organic that contains nanites.’
“Nanites?” She found herself getting more and more confused as the computer answered questions.
‘Nanites: Nanoscopic robotic organisms, require the host to survive, Illegal within WTO and System Alliance controlled areas.’
“Why am I the host?” Amee started to eat another chocolate bar.
‘Answer: Copy of Host was insufficient. Temporal transport resulted in complete cellular degradation.’
“Copy of host?” Amee pondered if it meant her twin.
‘Answer: You are correct. She was a clone, clone tissue was insufficient to support nanites colony after temporal transport.’
“Clone?”
‘Clone: Duplicate of object. In this case duplicate of host.’
“I know what a clone is, but how?” Amee rubbed her temples.
‘Answer: Insufficient data at this time. Supposition: DNA sample used to clone host.’
“You can just jab someone and clone them with the blood!” Amee shook her head in disbelief.
‘Response: Cloning of a human being is possible, however it is illegal under WTO and System Alliance prime law two.’
“WTO?” Amee pondered if computer hard drives were making laws in the future.
‘WTO: World Trade Organization, ruling body of earth government. Formed initial from SATA: South American Trade Association’
“Earth government? SATA? What the hell are you talking about? How did South America end up ruling the world? That makes no sense, Amee tore open a bag of jelly candy and popped one in her mouth.
‘Answer: Insufficient Data to answer query. Supposition: It was one of the survivors of the great cold.’
“Great Cold?” Amee asked, she felt herself starting to get frustrated.
‘Great Cold: Period during which ice covered 87.568 % of the planet.’
“You mean an ice age? What caused that?” Amee pondered all the environmentalists waving signs and protesting global warming and gave a small smile. Knew they were overreacting.
‘Classified by WTO. Accessing secure files…..accessed secure files’ ‘Data Corruption Warning’ ‘Answer: Experimentation with alien nanotechnology, research facility was located at $%#*%(^)@*)’ The computer displayed a series of garbage characters. ‘Supposition: Great Cold was prelude to invasion from extraterrestrials.’
Amee cursed quietly as she noticed the garbage characters scroll by, “Computer, what caused data corruption?”
‘Answer: Loss of estimated 79% of nanite colony, total loss of copy of host’s data store’
“Is there any way to fix this?”
‘Answer: Hosts back up files on portable computer’
“Where is her portable computer?”
‘Answer: Unknown.’
“Did it come with her?”
‘Answer: Yes’
“Can we track it?”
‘Answer: Target is not within current scanner radius’
“What is the radius of the scanners?”
‘Answer: at full capacity one parsec’
“What is current capacity?”
‘Answer: five meters’
“What’s that in feet?”
‘Answer: 5 Meters = 16.4042 Feet ’
“Okay that’s enough for tonight I think, my brain is starting to hurt.” Amee flopped back onto her bed and stared at the ceiling.
She woke up again when she heard her phone ring she was groggy. And her energy reserves were showing they were dangerously low. What the heck is going on? She reached for the phone and lifted the receiver, “Ya?”
“Amee! Thank god I got to you before they could, its’ Doctor Lu, you need to get out of there now.” She heard a lot of worry in the doctor’s voice.
“What…err…why?” Amee fought to keep her eyes open.
“They found out about you, I don’t know how, but they did, you need to get out of there, the-“ The line went dead. Amee was so tired. She just wanted to sleep. She reached to put the phone back down on the receiver, it took four attempts and the world was blurry. Sleep is good she thought as she passed out again.
