Fractured Sky

The students gathered at the grand hall of New Moon Academy as they waited in lines for the medical examination. The last part of the fitness test was body composition which basically told the doctors strengths and flaws of each student's bodies.

Qiu Ye had trained the with Eternal Pulse Sutra for about 8 hours last night and made some slight progress in the first tier of the reinforcement of her heart. Her heart rate dropped but she felt clear minded. But still she felt like her body was not up to standard compared to the other students.

Humans as a species in the wide galaxy was known for having unstable genes, every family's children had different body compositions and affinity for certain skills and combat styles. While Qiu Ye could compensate for a weaker bloodline through specialised sutras and manuals, her body at this point in time would not measure up to the other students which were part of powerful families with strengthened bloodlines.

When it was her turn, she walked into the exam room and gave the nurse her ID card. She the undressed and had little pads be placed around her body. After about 5 minutes, the nurse took out all the pads and let Qiu Ye get dressed. The nurse then made Qiu Ye spit into a vial and also pulled some blood. Then Qiu Ye was allowed to leave to do the next test.

The physical exam room was one station of a rotation of three so the could sort through the students faster. Qiu Ye's group did the physical exam first so next was Spiritual or Soul realm strength. Qiu Ye walked up to a large boulder like crystal and placed her hand on it. As she closed her eyes and focused, she imagined a stream of light flowing from a core inside her passing through her arm and into the crystal.

Qiu Ye focused her eyes and paid close attention to the base crystal, this was information she needed to pick and choose the perfect training regiment for herself. In her past life she had a red soul realm, which was seen as a sort of average soul realm. She had a good enough capacity for beast souls and was able to use most so she didn't think much of it. Unfortunately the soul realm type was created at birth, no amount of training could change the colour of one's soul realm.

Qiu Ye hoped to the 7 deities that she would at least receive a blue soul realm, what ever she could get as an advantage would help massively. With a good colour soul realm, fighters would be able to properly use the full power of beast souls and gear that were higher tier than their strength. A knight level fighter would be able to utilise baron level beast souls or gear to it's full strength and so forth.

But while having a good colour soul realm was very helpful, it wasn't the most important thing Qiu Ye looked for. She stared as the light orbs circulated and appeared in the crystal, looking at the pattern and formation which the orbs had. It was a forgotten ancient measuring system which became outdated as more and more people became fighters and measuring needed a revamp for convenience.

When no further light orbs appeared, Qiu Ye furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. There was no colour to her soul realm, just a simple white light. This has never happened before. Qiu Ye quickly closed her eyes and activated her time difference skill. Everything slowed down as her mind sped up. What she now saw were orbs of all sorts of different colours, they merged and flashed to create the white light. Qiu Ye had never seen something like this before.

Not wanting to be bothered by questioning of examining staff, Qiu Ye quickly focused her soul realm to create an illusion. She isolated those of the blue colour to the outer edge of the crystal so it looked like just a pale blue instead of a white colour. The other light orbs continued to spin and orbit as a larger orb was created in the centre. Qiu Ye was shocked.

"This formation… Fractured Sky formation…"

Qiu Ye had only seen depictions of it at the Holy Spirit's lair in her past life, the Holy Spirit had been defeated by the Ancient Devil by the time Qiu Ye had stumbled into her home. It was there were Qiu Ye isolated herself to learn and read all of the sutras the Holy Spirit had compiled for a possible future student to take up her throne and defeat the Ancient Devil. The fractured sky formation was supposedly to exist in only those who have a direct lineage to a deity.

Qiu Ye did receive a heavy blessing from gluttony in her past life but she didn't think that becoming the apostle and 'son' of gluttony would actually make Qiu Ye a descendent of a deity. But there was no other possibility Qiu Ye could think which linked her to a deity. Either way, Qiu Ye was extremely fortunate to have a fractured sky soul realm. It basically meant she was freed from the limitations of the human species. And this meant she would be able to get stronger to protect and fight. But it also meant that Qiu Ye had no excuse to slack off, with the chances she has been given, it was basically her obligation to act as the future guardian of all her friends and family and humanity as a whole.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Looking at the strength and number of light orbs was worrying however, it numbered in the fifties while most of the other students had well over a hundred. But it was probably a side effect of the odd rainbow soul realm situation, so Qiu Ye didn't think much on it before doing more research.

Qiu Ye stopped her time difference skill and took her hand away from the crystal. The light orbs quickly faded away and the blue light disappeared to reveal the same slightly transparent crystal. The teacher wrote down some notes and let Qiu Ye move on to the next station.

This test was similar to the last one but it focused on measuring affinity instead of general strength. Qiu Ye infused her hand with her soul realm and dipped it into the tub of water. Both she and the examiner paid close attention to the water, but after a minute nothing happened. She removed her hand and put it back again, nothing happened yet again.

The examiner shook her head and told Qiu Ye to just move on, thinking that it was simply due to Qiu Ye's weak soul realm. Qiu Ye walked aside feeling very confused, even though her soul strength was about 57, she should still have had even a small reaction with the water. It wasn't like she was a deviant as that is usually shown by an excessive reaction with the water.

If someone had an affinity with water, the volume would increase; someone with an affinity with wind would cause a whirlpool in the water; with earth, little minerals and crystals would float to the top; with fire, steam would rise from the water. Deviants are people who have an extra high affinity with an element and are able to elevate to a higher tier.

Water deviants can control ice and plants, wind deviants can control sound, earth deviants can control gravity and metal and fire deviants can control magma and lightning. Out of all elemental affinities, fire deviants are the most sought out due to the popularity of lightning control. But all the other elements are still very helpful.

But even children with a soul strength of 20 or so showed slight affinity to elements, it's extremely unheard of for someone to now have any affinity especially in the mid teens like Qiu Ye is.

The teachers told everyone that they would receive their results sometime the next day. It was friday so all the students had the next two days off, then the week after would be full of lectures and training sessions with teachers. In the report students would know which classes they were in and some early feedback from teachers on what to train on during free time every other week. The way the school schedule worked was that one week would be lectures and training and the other week would have no classes and the school simply allowed students to train on their own or go into fractures and do some hunting.

Qiu Ye sat down on her bed in her dorm, her mind raced to provide a reason for her lack of an affinity. It simply made no sense. She couldn't tell if she had no affinity what so ever or was equally susceptible to every element. Since she had the next few days off anyways, she decided to do an experiment.

If she didn't have an affinity she wouldn't be able to control the elements without any external help, but if she had equal affinity, it meant that she would be able to control every element probably.

Each dorm room had walls reinforced with special material so that students training with destructive sutras wouldn't cause damage to the building. Qiu Ye sat cross legged facing an empty wall and focused. In her past life she had an affinity with water and started using ice later on in her life. She imaged a small ball of water forming in her hand, spinning and drawing the moisture from the air. When she opened her eyes again, she found a small orb of water in her hands. Her eyes widened, this was a good sign.

She quickly closed her fist and crushed the orb of water, it exploded into a mist and floated in the air. She then focused again to create an orb of water again but this time she imagined the water crystallised and froze. A spiky ball of ice floated above her palm, it released cold frost in to the air around it. Qiu Ye almost jumped up in excitement. Even if she didn't have an affinity to all elements like she hypothesised, being a deviant in water was enough.

Qiu Ye tested for the rest of the afternoon, she managed to throw a blade of air at the wall and cause a sound wave to bounce around her room. She formed a ball of compressed clay in her hand and crushed it with gravity. At the end of the day, her room was a total mess with things tossed around, a large crater like dent in the middle of her room and her walls were charred and scraped. She closed her eyes and touched the walls, simply by injecting a little of her soul force into the walls, they all changed shaped to go back to normal. She picked everything up and put them back in place and her room looked like nothing happened.

Qiu Ye was ecstatic, not only could she control all the elements, she was a deviant in each of them. She had memorised thousands of skills from her past life which helped the progress in strengthening and cultivating control in each element. Problem is that they made the user weaker to the opposing element. For example there was a martial skill named jade snow which made water users to infuse their body with ice and use frost powers, however it also made the user weaker to fire.

Now that Qiu Ye was able to use every element to deviancy, she couldn't risk making her body weaker to any element. She decided to sleep on it and work on something over the weekend so she just sat down and started practising the Eternal Pulse Sutra for the rest of the night.
