Chapter 28: Splashing Through Joy: The Ultimate Holi Celebration
As word spread through the office, the once quiet pool area soon transformed into a vibrant scene of laughter and excitement. Employees, dressed in an array of colorful clothes, began pouring in from all corners of the office, eager to join the impromptu Holi celebration. The air buzzed with energy as everyone started to gather around the pool.
Oki, Ashi, and the Boss, dripping wet but smiling broadly, took the lead in organizing the festivities. They quickly set up large buckets of colored powders and water balloons around the pool’s edge.
“Look at everyone’s smiles!” Oki said, glancing around. “This is exactly what we needed.”
As the Holi celebration continued, the energy was infectious, and the group decided to add a few more games to keep the fun going. The employees quickly organized themselves into teams, eager to take part in the festivities. Ashi glanced at Oki and said, “This is turning out better than I imagined. I can’t wait to see what other games we’ll play.”
As the excitement from the initial games began to settle down, Oki gathered everyone around the pool area, holding a clipboard and a microphone with a broad smile. “Alright, everyone! We’ve had a fantastic time so far, but let’s add some more fun. We’re going to play a few more games. How about this—each of you writes down one game you want to play on a small piece of paper. We’ll put all the papers in a hat, and I’ll draw them one by one to see which games we’ll play next. Remember, only one game per person, and if you cheat by writing more than one game, you’ll be disqualified. Got it?”
The employees cheered in response, eagerly agreeing to the plan. Everyone hurried to grab small pieces of paper and pens, scribbling down their game suggestions. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as people huddled around the pool, brainstorming and debating which games would be the most exciting.
Saito, an employee known for his dramatic flair, was appointed to read the game suggestions. With a flourish, he began, “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, get ready for the next round of Holi fun! We have a bowl full of game ideas, and I’m about to pull them out one by one. Let’s see what surprises await us!”
Saito reached into the bowl and pulled out the first slip of paper. “Our first game is Balloon Pop!” he announced. “Here’s how it works: We’ll have balloons tied around the pool area, and each balloon will contain a task or challenge. You have to pop the balloon and complete the task inside. Ready?”
The employees eagerly scattered around, looking for balloons. Balloons were tied to trees, poolside furniture, and even hanging from the edge of the pool. As the teams started popping balloons, the tasks ranged from goofy to challenging. One balloon revealed the task of “Do the chicken dance while hopping on one foot,” and Rafta, laughing, flapped his arms and hopped around. “This is just like those school dances,” he joked, recalling fond memories from his past.
Another balloon contained the challenge, “Sing a nursery rhyme in a dramatic opera style.” Oki took the stage and performed “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” with such theatrical flair that everyone burst into laughter, clapping along. “I never thought I’d hear ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ like that!” Haari chuckled, shaking his head in amazement.
A particularly tricky task involved “Balancing a spoon with a lemon on it and walking across the pool deck.” Haari tried to complete it but ended up with lemon juice dripping down his shirt as the lemon fell into the pool. The sight of him tiptoeing around with a very serious face while trying to balance the spoon was a hit with the crowd. “I thought this was going to be easy!” Haari laughed, wiping lemon juice from his face.
The team of Ashi and the Boss won the Balloon Pop game, having completed all their tasks in record time. “Looks like we’re the balloon busters!” Ashi declared, grinning. The Boss, catching her breath, added, “That was a lot of fun. I haven’t laughed this hard in a while.”

Saito pulled out the second slip. “Next up is Water Limbo! We’ll use a water hose to create a limbo bar. You have to limbo under it without getting wet. Ready to test your flexibility?”
The employees lined up eagerly, and the water hose was adjusted to create a limbo bar. The first few attempts were met with success, but as the water bar was lowered, the challenges began. Rafta tried to limbo under the bar but misjudged his height, and the stream of water drenched him from head to toe. “Well, that’s one way to cool off!” he laughed, shaking the water from his hair.
Next up was Haari, who made it under but accidentally bumped into the bar, causing water to splash everywhere. “I’m not sure if I limboed or just made a big splash!” he joked. Oki, watching, said, “Sometimes it’s the unexpected moments that are the most fun.”
The crowd erupted in laughter when Ashi attempted a daring move, almost touching the bar with her back while bending sideways. “Ashi’s a limbo legend!” Oki shouted, giving her a thumbs-up. Ashi grinned, “I’ve been practicing my flexibility for just this moment!”
In a surprising twist, Rafta managed to win by limboing effortlessly under the final, lowest bar. “Looks like I’m the limbo champ!” Rafta exclaimed, taking a bow. “I guess all those yoga classes are paying off,” he added with a wink.
Saito drew the third slip of paper. “And now, for the Floating Obstacle Course! We’ll set up floating platforms and obstacles in the pool. The fastest one to navigate through them wins!”
The pool was quickly transformed into an obstacle course with floating mats, rings, and inflatable obstacles. Teams prepared for the challenge, and the race began with much splashing and slipping. Oki, racing with determination, ended up getting tangled in an inflatable ring. “Help! I’m stuck in the ring!” she shouted, trying to wiggle free while others swam around her. The sight of Oki flailing around was so funny that the entire pool area erupted in laughter.
Ashi took a flying leap over one of the obstacles but miscalculated and landed in a splashy belly flop. “Who knew you could get so much air in a pool?” she said, laughing off the mishap. The Boss, maneuvering through the course with impressive agility, had a near-disaster when she slipped off a floating mat but managed to grab the edge and pull herself back up.
In the end, the team of Ashi, Oki, and the Boss won the Floating Obstacle Course with their combination of skill and determination. “That was one slippery adventure!” Ashi said, catching her breath. “I think we’re all going to need a nap after this.”
Saito pulled the next slip. “Our next game is Synchronized Swimming! Teams will perform a synchronized routine in the pool. Points will be awarded for creativity, coordination, and entertainment.”
Teams quickly organized their routines. The Boss, Oki, and Ashi came up with a routine involving synchronized splashes and playful water movements. They even incorporated some humorous elements like pretending to swim with invisible fish. Oki, laughing, said, “I’ve never imagined myself as an underwater dancer!”
The performance was a hit, with Oki and Ashi’s team winning for their elaborate and well-rehearsed routine. The Boss’s impromptu routine, complete with unexpected twirls and water flips, brought the most laughs. At one point, the Boss accidentally did a water spin that ended with her splashing right into Oki, making her yell, “That’s what I call a surprise splash!”
As the synchronized swimming wrapped up, everyone was covered in splashes and smiles. The camaraderie and joy were palpable, making it clear that the day was a success.
Saito pulled the final slip. “Our last game is a Swimming Race.” With the Holi festivities in full swing, the group decided to end with a swimming race. Oki, Ashi, and the Boss lined up for the contest, while the others cheered from the sidelines.
The race started, and everyone swam furiously. Oki, usually a strong swimmer, struggled to keep pace, while Ashi and the Boss were neck and neck. In a surprising turn, Oki came in last, with Ashi and the Boss finishing together.
“That’s not fair,” Ashi said, panting. “We need a tiebreaker!”
“Agreed,” the Boss said, nodding. “Let’s do it again.”
In the rematch, Ashi surged ahead, leaving the Boss behind. Ashi touched the wall first, while the Boss came in second. “Looks like I won!” Ashi exclaimed. “Boss, I have a request for you.”
The crowd grew silent, intrigued by Ashi’s request. “What’s your demand?” the Boss asked, curiosity piqued.
“I want you to do the victory dance we practiced last year,” Ashi said with a mischievous grin.
The crowd was shocked by Ashi’s request. The Boss’s eyes widened in surprise, but then she nodded. “Alright, I’ll do it.”
Ashi clapped excitedly, and the Boss reluctantly began performing the victory dance. The moves were exaggerated and comical, causing everyone to burst into laughter. The sight of the normally
stern Boss dancing with such enthusiasm was both shocking and delightful. “Who knew you could bust a move like that?” Oki joked, wiping tears from his eyes.
The Boss finished, out of breath but smiling. “I guess I needed this more than I realized.” As she looked around at the laughing, cheering crowd, she added, “Sometimes, you just need to let loose and have fun.”
