Chapter 9: End of the day
When the Director had said that this room was practically indestructible Alex let his gaze wander around. There was nothing in the room except for the four walls and the ceiling plus floor. The entire room was white. Alex took off his jacket and asked in a relaxed voice, “So do you want to go for a fight first or see how much I can materialize first?” The Director just looked at him for a second and said, “Show me how much you can materialize and about that fight, I never said we would be fighting, did I now?”
Alex just let out a hollow laugh and red lightning ran across his body, a second later red crystals started forming on his body. It covered his entire body in a matter of seconds and when it was finished, the entire body, except for his head, was covered. The Director sized him up and looked at a wall as he nodded. He said to the wall, “Raise the Dummy.”
As the words fell training dummy emerged from the ground. As it turned out on the other side of that wall was the control room for this training room. As the dummy rose from the floor, the Director looked at Alex and said, “Now then, hit it as strong as you can.” Alex could only shrug his shoulders and he just gathered all of his strength in his right arm as he punched the dummy. As soon as the punch landed, the dummy was blown to smithereens.
Alex looked at it in astonishment and said, “Wait, this dummy wasn't made from the same materials as the room?” The Director just smiled at him and said, “No, these are made from a strong alloy but not as strong as this. You could say these walls are at least 5 times stronger than the dummy.” Alex just looked at his fist while he repeatedly relaxed and clenched it. Even he didn't think that it would be as strong as this. As Alex was checking his strength, the Director only smiled as he said, “The reason I had you hide your ability all those years back is this: The crystal you can materialize is the “Blood Crystal” and its toughness is even stronger than the materials this wall is made out of.”
He took a breath and checked if he had Alex's attention before continuing, “You see, If a child had been running around with this ability, there would have been countless people trying to abduct you so that they could make you into a “Blood Crystal Mine” Now however now you are strong enough to beat the crap out of anyone who tries to do so or in the worst case scenario, run.” When all of this had been said, Alex's face also turned serious.
Things like these were no joke, there were a lot of underground organizations that abducted ESP-ers to make them into slave like that. He understood the sentiment of that and didn't hold any blame for the Director for it. They chatted a bit about the full extent of his abilities and Alex just looked at the watched and said, “Yea it 3.20 PM, I gotta go now. I told the 4 troublemakers to get their asses back to the training ground at 3.30PM sharp. This time I don't think they will dare to be late even a second.”
He just smiled at the Director and exited the room, he started heading toward the training grounds. When Alex had exited the room, a voice rung out in the training room, “Well now, seems like that little guy is stronger than ever now. Maybe we should change his nick name to “Bloody Angel” now?” The Director looked at the man who emerged from the Shadows and said, “Ohh, it is you Shadow, and maybe we really should. Anyways, he might be one of the Dragoncross in this country but there are broken fuckers like him in the other countries as well. Alun has a triple combat ability holder, now that is scary. Our little island country of Sareld is in for a turbulent time if Alun decides to start pressuring other countries.” With that the discussion ended.
Alex however leisurely walked to the training ground and when he arrived he was happy to see that all of his students had arrived on time. He smiled at them and gestured them to sit down before he started talking, “Now then, the training is done for today. It was actually a long shot from what I had intended but oh well, shit happens.” He looked at everyone in the eyes before he decided to continue.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
He looked straight at Erica and started, “Now then, I will tell everyone their specialized training regime. Starting with you Erica.” As he pointed at Erica, she straightened her back and listened intently. Alex liked the serious look in her eyes so she smiled and said, “Your only objective at the moment is to upgrade the weapons you specialize in. After that is done, come and find me so we can start on the combat part, which I will explain in more detail, when we get there. You also need to run 20 laps around the training field every day. Also try to think of better protective gear for your team. Remember your occupation is more like a back line support.” Alex said as he looked at Erica. She immediately replied, “Understood.”
Alex nodded and turned his gaze to Marina, “Your only objective for now is to learn on how to control these blades for an extended period of time and use them efficiently. Your job will not be to attack them in hand to hand combat but be a front line support who helps out her team on the front lines.” As he finished, he took out four army knives and gave them to Marina. She looked at them for a second before replying, “I understand.”
He looked at Christoph and said, “For now, you need to work on your stamina and Ice manipulation. Remember, manifestation ability holders biggest advantage is that they can create practically anything with their ability. You need to think long and hard about what kind of a weapon you want to specialize in and when you have figured it out, come and tell me. I will give you a special training program for it. For now, every day I want you to run 30 laps around the training field and do 3 sets of the training exercises on this paper.” He handed Christoph the paper. Christpoh looked over it and nodded to Alex, “I understand, I will do as you instructed.”
Alex just smiled and turned his head to Marcus. He paused for a second and started, “Now then, your ability is the trickiest to train to be honest. You can train to be anywhere from hand-to-hand to long range combat. Depending on what your answer is, your training regime will also be different. So think long and hard in what you want to specialize in and what you want to use a secondary style. For now we will have you do body building. You need speed, strength and control over your fire, so for now follow the instructions on this paper.” He handed Marcus a paper with instructions as well.
He glanced over everyone's faces before asking, “Do you guys have any questions about your training instructions for now?” Everyone were quiet for a moment and shook their heads. They had no questions and no objections as well. Even they understood that instructions like these were not thought up on the spot and all of these things covered their general short comings.
Alex saw that none of them had any questions so he continued, “Now, when summer vacation starts, we will be moving to a special training location for a 2 month special training. The higher ups want to send you on a mission in Fall so I need to get you as strong as possible in the 4 months we currently have. I honestly do not want to see any of you dead on your first mission so the two month boot camp is going to be a hard one.” When everyone heard that, they gulped.
It was clear that Alex did not want to send them to die so he needed to make them as strong as possible in the short time frame he had. Erica asked out of curiosity, “What will our mission be?” Alex looked at her and said, “Most likely to exterminate some Mutant Beast nest. I will also be there so you do not need to be that scared but I can't protect all of you at all times, so better safe than sorry.”
They all understood that they couldn't stay at the training grounds for all their life so they needed to get strong enough to survive routine missions. With that Alex disbanded everyone and set up a meeting every day. 3PM they will meet at that spot and if anyone has questions or sorts they can ask him then.
They had had an extremely eventful day today so when they got home, they instantly fell asleep. Alex however set his steps towards the Directors office with a serious face.
