Another chapter for today and for the love of god, his ability isn't shiny feet.
Enjoy.

Chapter 4: Decision
The whole gym was silent enough to hear a pin drop to the ground. After a dozen of seconds had passed Alex said, “Are you fucking kidding me? Why in the seven hells would you think, that someone like me would be a good frigging instructor? I have zero people skills, I would get them killed sooner, rather than later.” As Alex burst into rage, everyone else came back to their senses as well. As an instructor you are responsible for the lives of the people you teach, so it wasn't something any person off the street could do on a whim. Alex knew he was strong and had plenty of fighting experience but to start teaching someone else as an instructor was something he felt was way out of his league. The Director just put a serious face on and said, “You have plenty of fighting experience, your ability is the best for saving them in clutch situations, you are strong enough to be qualified for an S rank in the Combat Division and most importantly you are my student. I know you better than anyone else, do you honestly think that I would want you to become an instructor if you didn't have the qualifications for that?”
When Alex heard that reasoning, he could only curse inside. He didn't actually have anything against teaching someone but an instructor was a person who was responsible for his students lives. He wasn't ready to be responsible for someone else's life yet, heck, he was barely responsible for his own. After another thirty minutes of back and forth conversation like that in the gym, one of the people who was checking his phone for news suddenly yelled out, “What the heck is this? The businessman Alex crippled, has been charged with kidnapping, imprisonment, torture, causing suicide, rape and giving bribes.”
When everyone heard that they immediately remembered the phone call Alex made, Alex only smiled to hearing that. The Director immediately asked, “You are the one behind this?” Alex only smiled before answering, “Yea, that was the plan I was talking about on the phone. We had hard evidence to lock that bastard up for a long long time but since the industry he runs is massive, it would have caused a big blow to the countries economy if it didn't have someone to take over. I just got in contact with his son, who he had disowned and we worked out this plan. I would get to make that mans life a living hell and he would get the industry his father cut him out of. It was a win-win for the both of us. The preparation just took longer than expected and we finished everything just a few days ago.” The Director just let out a sigh when he heard that and said, “You truly are merciless aren't you?” Alex looked at him in surprise for a second before answering, “You were the one that taught me this: If you do something, do it thoroughly.”
The Director could only let out a hollow laugh to that. “Well, stop by the Department in a few days after settling in at the outside world to let me know of your decision.” Alex just looked into the distance for a second before sighing, “Yea, will do. I'm just wondering where I'll be staying from now on.” The Director just threw him a little bag, the size of a palm. “I'll let you borrow this apartment free of charge for now, until you settle in properly. The water runs, electricity is working and the place is warm. Should be good enough for now.” After that all the ESP-ers left with the Director to give a full report on what had happened, the faculty exchanged a few friendly sentences with Alex before he left with the Warden to deal with the paperwork for the release and to collect his things from the jail cell. When he reached the apartment that he realized that it wasn't needlessly big or small. It had a separate kitchen, living room, bedroom. The toilet and the shower were in the same room, it was furnished and kept clean. He settled in there and as school for canceled until next Monday, he had a lot of free time on his hands.
He received a “pay” for teaching the delinquents in prison, so he didn't have to worry about food or anything. Since the pay was quite substantial, he had a bit of free money on his hands.
He settled in and in the blink of an eye 3 days had passed. It was 9 o'clock in the morning and he was currently in front of the ESP Departments compound. The area they had for private use was massive, over 5 square kilometers. There were specialized buildings for paperwork, an infirmary, logistics department and training grounds. For people that worked there full time, there were also some barracks there where they could sleep and a mess hall, where everyone could grab breakfast, lunch or dinner.

He went up to the people who were on guard duty and told them, that the Director told him to stop by when he had the time. The guards called the office and after verifying Alex's identity, they called for someone to escort him to see the Director. It took him half an hour to reach the Directors office from the front gate. When he entered the office, the Director looked at him with a smile from behind his desk and asked, “Hey, have you made your decision?” Alex took a quick look around and then sat down on a chair opposite to the Director before answering, “Yea, I thought it over and figured that this place is probably my best bet for employment now, so I accept under one condition.”
“And what might that condition be?” the Director lifted his eyebrow as he asked that. Alex just smiled and said, “If someone, who is my student, ends up dead because of his own ignorance and carelessness, I won't be held accountable for that.” Hearing that the Director understood what he meant. During his time, he has seen a lot of young and talented people get themselves killed because they got too haughty over having an ability. He also knew the person in front of him is a rare dual ability wielder. The nickname “Flash Step” was given to him due to his know ability, to move at a speed that seems a kin to a teleportation. People often mistake his ability to teleportation on first sight but it is actually very different.
He could actually manipulate time, depending on who you ask, you will get either one of these answers:
1. He slows down others time nearly to freezing point
2. He accelerates his own to make it seem like teleportation.
But due to people not making a difference between the two, he got the nickname “Flash Step”. His other ability is something that even the Director has no knowledge on. He has seen it only once and that left even him feeling dread. Alex has not used it ever since the Director banned him from using it 11 years ago. Seeing that Alex had agreed to become an instructor, they filled out the necessary paperwork and the Director gave him a special magnet card, that held his name, rank and status (student, instructor, guard etc). There was also a picture on it for identification. After the paperwork was filled out and Alex briefed on the general rules and responsibilities, the Director handed him four files. In them, was the personal data for the four people he would be in charge of.
Alex started reading the files and time ticked by. The more he read, the more his brows furrowed, in the end, when he had finished reading the four files, he asked the director with a helpless face, “You seriously do not like me, huh? These four are probably the four biggest problem children you could find.” The director stood up and looked out of the window that was behind his back before starting, “Those four have immense potential and they all joined the Combat Division on their own. Due to their abilities being a bit “unique” others keep creating problems for them and they have lost the motivation they had, when they joined. You are our best bet in making them turn around.”
Alex could only sigh to that, from the files he read he could tell, this was going to be an up hill battle against a storm gale that was blowing him back. “All right, I'll meet them and I'll instruct them for a week. If I see no possible way of turning around their motivation, I'm sorry to say this but I'm going to quit teaching them.” Alex said as he steeled his determination. The Director looked at him with a wry smile and said, “Thank you, all of the other instructors have said “No way” the moment I made them their students.”
With that the old man started leading the way, it was time for Alex to meet with his new students.
