Davy's POV
I walked down the stairs and saw professor Rowan in the kitchen storing the samples.
"Davy, is there something you need?"
I reached out to him despite not knowing what to say, for some reason I can't form any words to say; It felt like my tongue was tangled.
"I-I'm sorry professor I don't really know what to say. I guess I'm sorry for giving you more work."
"No need to be apologize Davy, this is something out of your control." Professor Rowan shrugged "Can I change the topic for a bit?"
"Uh- sure" Professor Rowan rummaged his bags and took out a spray with purple liquid inside.
"This is a potion." Professor Rowan took out a knife and made a small cut on his arm.
"Professor, stop! What are you doing?!"
"It's fine, I won’t hurt myself without a reason." Professor Rowan then sprayed the potion on the cut. A few seconds later it slowly closed but there's still a few parts of it that is still visible. "As you can see, the potion couldn’t heal me completely. Now I want you to put the same amount I put on myself, on the cut we made earlier."
Professor Rowan gave me the potion. I sprayed it on the part where part where my flesh has been cut for laboratory analysis. In just 10 seconds the cut fully healed without a trace of it being there at all.
"Marvelous!" I could feel the excitement on professor Rowan's eyes, I just wish he wouldn't put me in more experiment like this.
"Professor, you won't really do that kind of experiments on me right?"
"No, no, no!, I could never! The most I'll do is take a bit of your cells and study them, with your permission of course." I felt a bit of madness in his eyes, maybe I should think this carefully before deciding what to do next. As I was about to leave, professor Rowan stopped me.
"Davy, I have an offer to you." I gestured at him to continue.
"I'll be honest, I want to work with you, you're a first in the world to have this kind of body, and probably the last. I plan to do research on your cells and how we can use it for the betterment of the world, for human and pokemon alike." Professor Rowan continued. "I can give you a place to stay and pay for your daily necessities, I'll also pay you a salary and insurance."
I thought for a while, thinking what's good for me and for Glaceon. If I accept his offer, I'll pretty much get a head start, a stable salary, a place to stay, and most of all I could probably look at his research. The only thing that's bothering me is what kind of experiments he'd do to me, my own insecurities and if I do well. Deciding what to do next I finally gave an answer.
"I have conditions."
"Sure, let's hear it."
"First, you will not do experiments that I do not agree with, second I want your support and vouch for me when needed, and lastly, I want to take a look at the research results."
Professor Rowan didn't think for long as he gave me an immediate answer. "Then it's a deal! I'll have your ID made with all the documents needed to have you as a formal citizen of Sinnoh." Professor Rowan then explained to me what my work will have to be. "I'll have you run errands for me around Sinnoh, and from time to time, I will have you examined in the lab, to see if any changes happened to you. I will also have you join us on some research outside of Sinnoh, help out inside the lab and help me catch specific pokemon for research."
"I have a question professor."
"What is it?"
"Do I also have to do battles?" I asked professor Rowan. Battling seems so... fun I think it's equivalent to sports in this world. Watching Ash's battles always made me excited, even though some of the thing he did was theoretically impossible to do in real life, I still want to try battling and competing in the league if there is one.
"Ho ho ho, it looks like even though you're not from this world, you seem interested in battling."
"It’s been a childhood dream to me, I at least want to try battling once." Professor Rowan nodded and gave me his answer.
"Yes, you will have to do battle from time to time, it is something we can't avoid in this line of work. But if you're that passionate about it, there's the Pokemon league where you have to compete against different trainers."
"Really!" I excitedly exclaimed.
"Yes, you can. Hmmm how old are you again Davy?"
"I am 20 years old"
"Oh, then you can sign up for the Senior league, but unfortunately its currently off season, the next league will start at March. There's still 3 months before the next season starts."
"There's different leagues?" I asked as this was not a thing in the games or the anime. In the games and anime there's only one type of league for every region where everyone competes in. but here it seems there's more leagues.
"Yes of course, Though there's only 2 leagues. The Junior League where trainers at the age of 10 to 17 could sign up, and the Senior League, where 18 and above could sign up."
"Why do they separate them? Isn't it the same anyway?"
"No, we have to separate them. Imagine this, a kid started his journey hoping to become the best but in just his first battle he faced an adult that has more confidence and more knowledge on pokemon than him, what do you think he'll feel?"
I thought for a while before reaching a conclusion. "Wouldn't he feel like he need to do more and become better?"
"At the start he might, but what if it happens again, and again, and again?"
"I could see where you're going professor."
"That's not the only reason, like their experience on catching pokemon, the time they'll take to reach a gym, their immature ways of handling pokemon, etc."
Professor Rowan then explained how the league works. In order to qualify in the championship, you have to get all 8 gym badge’s, by beating all 8 gym leaders, this is also general knowledge you get on playing pokemon, but it’s different when you're participating in the Senior League. Unlike the normal ones without any obstacles and has full visibility, each gym, have an underground arena where there's a terrain that you have to fight on. This is where the pokemon and trainer needs to work together in sync and harmony. Each terrain differs on each gym, and each gym have 5 different terrains where the gym leader could choose where to hold the battle. The gym leader has to use the same amount of pokemon as the trainer in those battles. There is also a limit of 1 substitution per battle on gym battles and 2 substitutions on the championship. You also can't kill the opponents pokemon inside or outside of gym battles, if you broke this rule your trainer license will be revoked and all you pokemon will be confiscated.

"In the Junior League the gym leaders are prohibited of using any custom moves and are only allowed to use the basic moves of pokemon that they learn normally or by TM. But in the Senior League everyone can use as much custom moves they want, though only few managed to create or copy custom moves, it is also illegal to make a TM of custom moves without the consent of the trainer, and I forgot to mention, if you made a custom move you have to register it as your own before anyone can create a similar one. There's not much custom move right now as this rule has only been placed a year ago."
Professor Rowan Explained more about other rules like the waiting time on gyms, the amount of pokemon you can bring in certain places, how many pokemon a trainer can bring in their team and the way trainers could battle inside cities.
I never imagined the pokemon world are this different than in the anime or games. It seemed like a completely different world than what I used to know. He also explained to me the basic rules of methods of hiring pokemon as workers. We talked a bit more until the skies turn dark, and we decided to have dinner.
We came to the dining hall where food has already been served. Cynthia was already sitting in one of the chairs on the right side of the long rectangular dining table and Glaceon happily munching on what looked like pokefood along with Cynthia's pokemon on the corner. I don't recognize most of her pokemon, the only ones I recognize is Milotic and Garchamp; MIlotic being from Gen3 and Garchamp for its popularity.
"So, did you decide?" Cynthia asked me as we ate.
"Yes, I will join professor as his assistant."
"You don't have to worry for your information to leak outside, I'll take care of it. Also, when do you plan to get a pokeball for Glaceon?" Cynthia asked looking at Glaceon eating her food like there's no tomorrow.
"How much is a pokeball? I plan to buy one for her once I get some money."
"There's many types of pokeball as you already know, but one normal pokeball costs $100." Professor Rowan answered me as he reaches for his pockets and pulled out a pokeball and handed it to me.
"Professor, there's no need! I can just buy my own when I get my first salary."
"Take it Davy, consider it an advance pay for now." Professor Rowan winked.
"Also take this, you might need this." Cynthia handed me a sleek, rectangular device that looks similar to a modern smartphone. It has a screen on the front for video calls and a small speaker for audio. Its design is futuristic.
"You don't have to! You already helped me so much!"
"It's fine Davy, take it, it also the same version as mine, which is almost impossible to hack into, it also hides any information that comes in and out, it also has my contact in there. We need to hide any information on the research that you'll be doing, and this is the perfect device for that." Cynthia's reasoning seems so reasonable. I accepted their gifts and proceeded to thank them.
"Thank you so much. I don't know how to and thank you, and sorry for the trouble I caused."
"No need to thank or apologize Davy, this also helps us further the understanding of pokemons and the great legends"
After eating I knelt in front of Glaceon and showed her the pokeball.
Glaceons POV.
I could smell different berries inside the round object they called a bowl. Inside I saw weirdly shaped brown berries, the other pokemon that came out of their balls seem delighted to see eat and ate. I watched them gobble up all the food inside the bowls. Curious, I took a bite at the of the fruits. The food they gave was delicious, I haven't eaten anything like this before. The soft, crunchy and sweet taste of the food is something similar; but different than my favorite Pecha berry. I can't describe in anything but blissful.
Davy finally came. The food they served towards the humans is different than ours, it is varied and different color. It looks like crushed berries, like those I used to step on when I was a newborn.
"Hello Glaceon, I'm Togekiss, I've heard you came from the mountain and followed Davy here, that means you don't have a pokeball yet right?" Wondering what's a pokeball, I asked.
"What's a pokeball?"
"Oh, you don't know what it is? Let me tell you. A Pokeball is a round device and a state-of-the-art gadget used by humans to capture, store, and manage Pokémon. Its creation process is unknown to us but they serve as a place where we could rest during the long travels that the humans take, it is also..." Before she could finish, a black hand hits her head.
"A pokeball is used to store us pokemon so that we don't get tired and injured unnecessarily" The Lucario gave an easier to understand answer that I easily understood.
"How do I get inside one?"
"You have to be captured first."
I didn't like the sound of that. Being captured means you don't get any freedom and can't decide for your own, or so the other Glaceon in the group used to say.
"I don't like it, did you guys get captured too?"
"It’s not that bad as you think, you can still choose to follow them or not, and if they get tired of you, they'll just release you." Answered the Roserade.
I thought for a while before asking for them the reason why they didn't leave their trainer.
"Why are you guys still follow your human?"
"It’s because she treats us nicely and cares for us, it varies from human to human but we got lucky and met a kind one, plus, the food they serve is delicious." I agreed to her point, this food is indeed delicious,
Is Davy kind and caring? Can he help me get stronger? If he can’t help me get stronger then I have to find a better human. My thoughts wander at the possible future that I envisioned, I want to be stronger so that I do not lose to anyone, I want to be able to protect my family and myself, and if can't help me on that, there's no point on staying.
I looked at Davy and remembered the time where he protected me from the Sneasels. Despite his wounded state, he risked his life for me. He could have run away to save himself, but he chose to stay, and I would lie if I say I don't like him. I remembered our journey down the mountains, the way he tried to stop us from fighting because he thought we we're hurting each other etched on my mind, the way he acted while we were walking in the snow; full of doubt and fear. The way he hugs me when I felt discomfort and the time with the Sneasel earlier. Would he be alright by himself? I started to worry about this human. Before I knew it, he became a family to me.
Davy knelt in front of me while holding a pokeball. I could see the anxiety and fear in his eyes.
"Glaceon, I know I'm not someone strong or reliable, but would you like to be my partner?"
Looking at Davy, he seems someone who would weak and would fall with just a tap, This human might not be able to help me become the strongest. But I am willing to bet on him. I'll be strong enough so that he wouldn't worry, so that I could protect my friends, family and myself. I tapped the small circle on the middle of the pokeball.
Davy held the ball in his hands, as it wiggled, 1...2...3... With a clicking sound, the ball finally stopped moving. He stared at the ball for a few moments. If someone would tell him that he would be transported to the pokemon world and caught his first pokemon, he would not believe him. Cynthia and Rowan tapped his shoulder and congratulated him.
"Congrats on your first pokemon Davy."
"How did it feel getting you first pokemon?"
"I..." Davy could not answer them, his mind still processing what just happened. Cynthia smiled and suggested to Davy.
"Let her out, I bet she isn't used being inside the ball yet"
He finally registered what Cynthia had said and threw the ball in the air. With a flash of red light, Glaceon came out Looking around she saw the same place before she got sucked into the ball. She looked at Davy, tears flowing out of his eyes.
For the first time in his life, he never felt this happy. The old memories of his previous world flashed in his mind. All the ridicule and neglect he received from his family, the failures he faced, the only friend he could rely on. Everything came back, until the point that he fell on his knees and hugged Glaceon.
"Thank ...you." Is all he could say. Cynthia and professor Rowan left them behind, giving them space.
Early morning Davy woke up on the room given to him. Glaceon was sitting on the window looking at te mountain where they descended. Her ball was placed on the table near the door, she could come out of her own ball anytime she wants, Davy doesn't want to restrict her on it. He took a chair and sat near the window with Glaceon.
"Do you miss your family?" He asked Glaceon, not expecting any answer.
Glaceon jumped on his lap. Petting her, they watched the mountain together before going down for breakfast. In the dining hall Cynthia and Rowan was already eating, their bags already packed and ready to go.
"Good morning, Davy." They both greeted.
"Good morning."
Davy sat and started to eat, while Glaceon goes over to her bowl and did the same. "I forgot to tell you, we have to leave today to Sandgem Town. I still have to introduce you to my other assistants, and get a place for you to stay."
"I can go anytime professor."
"Davy, if you have any questions about the league or battling, you can call me when I'm not busy." Cynthia offered.
"Thank you Cynthia, I'll call you when I have questions."
After finishing breakfast, Cynthia left first. “I need to go now; I have a lot of paperwork to handle. Call me when you make progress on it.” she said.
Davy wondered how Cynthia would go back to the league. Before he could ask, Cynthia rode her Garchamp's back and flew. His eyes widened at the sight. 'How could a Giant Bipedal Shark fly?' Rowan laughed at Davy's astonishment. "You haven't seen anything yet, there's more surprises for you in store later."
After a few hours, Davy followed Professor Rowan to the airport. He felt nervous since he didn't have an ID yet. Surprisingly, they proceeded without any issues and boarded the airplane.
"Attention passengers: Please return your Pokémon to their Pokeballs. I repeat, please return your Pokémon to their Pokeballs."
"Looks like you have to stay inside until we get off, Glaceon." Glaceon made an annoyed voice before going back into her ball.
"We'll get off on Jubilife City, then it’s an hour’s walk inside route 202 until we get to Sandgem Town." Professor Rowan tidied his clothes before sitting down.
Davy looked at the window of the plane as it takes off.
