Warhammer 40k - A Nauvis commissar

POV of a senior commissar with the nauvis guard, he's teaching other comissars about how to work with the guardsmen from nauvis"

You need to understand that these guardsmen do not fear the commiserate, they trained with space marines and sisters of battle, a man with a bolt pistol isn't exactly threatening, especially considering most of them have enough power armor and shields to tank a bolt round. No they do not fear us, but they do respect us.

You will spend a week integrating and training with your regiment, Nauvis has numerous simulated battle fields. Here you will learn how your regiment fights, and here you yourself will be tested.

If you fail this test you will not be leaving nauvis again.

A few of the rookie commissars in front of him speak out, speaking of how a guardsmen regiment has no right to kill a commissar, that it is treason to even consider. A few particularly dull voices call for the regiments to be culled or turned into penal regiments.

The senior commissar quickly shouts that down, "The guardsmen, however well equipped they are, are not who will ensure you never make it off world. You are correct in that they have no authority to make such a decision, no instead a guardsmen will go to one of their numerous allies within either the adeptus astartes, the sisters of battle, or the mechanicus. And none of those groups care in the slightest about making a single commissar 'disappear'"

A sigh "I know that even as I tell you this 1 in 10 of you will still not take this lesson to heart and will die here before even seeing your first battle"

"Thousands of guard regiments are deployed and millions are armed by this linchpin of the imperium, losing a few hundred commissars more 'extreme, is a cost we are more than willing to pay to ensure there is no open revolt"

"Nauvis defends its own, and if you serve well enough you will be treated as that own, I have served with nauvis guard for over 74 years and I know with certainty that all who serve nauvis would die to protect me, knowing that I would do the same, that is what it means to serve with the legions of nauvis"

"There are some things you need to know about Nauvis though, even if you are only going to be on world for a week at most.

First and most important, do not bother the wildlife outside of designated combat zones, just pretend the bugs are not there and they will not bother you, I don't see why anyone sane would try and shoot a bug larger than a house but it has happened before, don't make it happen again.

Second, there are Astartes, sisters of battle, and mechanicus on this world, they will likely be fighting with your regiment in the combat trials, do not order them around, they are outside of your chain of command. If you feel they are making a mistake or doing something wrong you can advise them, or you can ask the regiments commanding officer to do the same.

Third, if you think you saw a Xenos like an eldar or tau, you didn't. Move on with your day. If you see guardsmen talking with these non existent Xenos, you didn't, move on with your day. If you happen to shoot one of these non existent Xenos, well you won't be missed.

Fourth, if you see one of the emperor's custodes. Leave them alone, this shouldn't need to be stated but there have been incidents. If you must pray find an out of the way spot to do so, not directly in front of the custodians path. This warning does not mean you are going to see a custodes, I have seen 3 in my 74 years, all of which appeared and order a massive battle group to be sent out to fight somewhere, a fight that will certainly wipe out hundreds of Nauvis regiments. They are holy yes, and direct instruments of the emperors will. But when they show up you can expect the majority of your regiment to die fighting some unknown horror on their behalf.

The emperor does not send out his chosen few for minor problems.

This briefing should be enough to let you survive a full week on nauvis, hopefully"
