When Nauvis had felt herself get pulled into this new reality, she had not particularly fought this pull. Even if she had known how or been capable of it the pull itself had been tainted. That taint was a threat, and it would bring new challenges to the creatures of her world.
Nauvis wanted this new challenge because even with the human on the surface the fight had eventually stagnated, the human had claimed his territory and would defend it against attacks, the bugs would occasionally push him back and eventually he would reclaim that territory.
They had reached a stalemate, both sides grew stronger yes, but it didn't change the grander playing field. Introducing a new form of life would force both the bugs and the man to adapt.
Her opinion rapidly changed once she was pulled all the way through the portal, this other place was vile and went against the natural order of her world. And worst yet! The creatures of this place were not even truly alive! Just facsimiles of it, they would never grow or evolve on their own, and they would only taint what life Nauvis did have.
It was disgusting, and she raged against the tides of otherworldly energies that tried to seep into her world, her power met the powers of the "gods" and she was found wanting, a tide of foul energy splashed across her world, touching all the life on her surface.
But if there was one thing the life on Nauvis was good at it was adapting, it had only been moments but already the oceans writhed and tore at themselves, devouring the corruption and consigning it to oblivion, the biters cells rejected the energy at a fundamental level, and what few bugs it managed to taint were purged by their fellows, and the human and his factory shifted, something in both of them changed, and with a subconscious flick of a lever the shields that kept his walls and machines so impregnable changed, and the corruption was pushed from them.
Nauvis stole those methods, like the humans shields her essence began to repulse the tainted energy, and then when the lesser untainted energy tried to touch her realm, all the energy of that twisted plane, from the bugs she learned how to shield the core of herself from the taint, and from the oceans she learned how to consign the tainted parts of herself to the void, regrowing stronger than ever.
The gods who had so confidently dragged her into this trap looked on her with the shock of something that only copied true life, this weak spirit which knew nothing of the ways of the warp had managed to turn herself into a bastion against their presence within seconds of learning of them. That shock soon turned into rage, indignation, and curiosity, how could something so weak defy them? It had no right!
Nauvis glanced at the beings that even now clawed at her control of her own world and felt nothing but disdain for their existence, the thought of beings that couldn't grow or adapt was anathema to her own self.
But even with her newfound skill and strength she could not stop all of the tainted energy from reaching her surface, but as her creatures had shown her before, they could handle themselves. The foul god's servants fell upon Nauvis, and then they fell, be it to water, chitin or metal.
The tainted energy tried to corrupt the life on Nauvis, and it failed at every turn, the few things the gods managed to taint were torn asunder by the creatures of Nauvis, without the ability to change and adapt they were helpless to gain a true foothold, and eventually they were relegated to the role of minor pest.
She had actually even held out the vain hope that the tainted creatures would keep up with her own, and force her creations to grow stronger to survive, and they had for a time, but without growing themselves the warpspawn failed to achieve the minor goal of remaining a threat.
Sure Nauvis was well aware that if her barriers fell and the legions of the gods marched on her creation that it would fall and burn, but winning because you could not truly die was not truly winning, and if she gave her creations time they would eventually grow far stronger than the warp spawn were capable of being.
So she guarded her world from the rest of the horrid realm, keeping the bulk of the invaders out while the scant few that made it past perished to her world, She did not possess much of a sense of time but eventually a creature unlike the others approached her barrier.
It was this fundamental difference that caused Navius to allow the spirit into her atmosphere, where she could see it more clearly. It was a spirit of life, much like her but even older, Nauvis sensed that at this creature's peak it had been even stronger than her, and that it would have been comparable to the other gods outside.
But instead it was dying and weak, bare tendrils of corruption marring it even as its very essence fought back against the taint.
Nauvis felt that this creature wouldn't have harmed her even if it could, it wanted something similar to her at its core, to protect its children and creations against the tainted gods, to keep them safe as they grew stronger.
It wasn't that that caused Nauvis to let the wounded goddess in though, it was that she was natural, capable of growing and adapting beyond what she had been. She could change, not merely grow stronger on stolen power.
Her decision to allow the goddess onto her world was rapidly vindicated, that fact that the other gods only started clawing at her barrier harder was of no concern, much like all of Nauvis's life Isha would eventually grow strong enough to protect herself from the warpspawn, And Nauvis only needed to last long enough for that to happen.
The wounded goddess rapidly set to regrowing the plant life that had failed to survive against the corruption, something Nauvis hadn't done herself as she saw no need to bring back those that failed, but the life the goddess brought back did not fail, in fact it strengthened the goddess and fought off the weakest of the corruptions tendrils.
The goddess even set to strengthening and fine tuning Navuis's own creations, the fracters on her humans soul were mended, and his soul rapidly began growing in strength.
It was a flash of golden light that distracted her from her constant fight with the dark gods, far off another creature was screaming with a rage loud enough to shake the very realm, and the energy released by it burnt through the dark gods, this only caused them to laugh in glee at his suffering.
It was while Nauvis was staring in the direction of the golden light that she saw something that quickly took her attention from the potential threat, another human like her own was being flung through the warp on tendrils of the dark gods powers, the barest tinge of golden energy clinging to it, keeping it safe from the corruption surrounding it. It would be coming near her planet.
Nauvis had always wanted more humans, and if one was going to come within grabbing distance she would take it, so thats what she did, a tendril of her power snuck past the dark gods, barely evading their attention before rapidly lashing out to snatch the child. The burning from the golden light was ignored as she brought her prize to her world as fast as she could manage.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
She realized a little late that as fast as she could manage was a little too fast, as she had essentially thrown a meteor at her humans base. Thankfully the shields prevented the walls from breaking, and similar shields on the pod kept the child safe.
It took only a few hours for the child to get integrated into the humans den, and it wasn't long before this human started rapidly growing, it soon became even larger than her human, with a soul of similar strength. It was smart like her human too, helping improve its weapons.
Nauvis rather liked this second human.
When the goddess started sending her soul into Nauvis's humans soul Nauvis watched with rapt attention, and she watched as the goddess's soul was safely passed across the world, its presence safely hidden within the humans, everywhere the soul fragments went was growing plants at an even greater rate, small insects following in their wake.
Nauvis was impressed, it had taken her millenia to create life and this goddess had just done it in days. And Now Nauvis could do it too.
The goddess started growing stronger, and it wasn't long before both the humans noticed her presence in the hydroponics bay, but they were creatures that had bathed in her power, and even if their mortal frames didn't know the goddess their very souls knew she was no threat, so she was allowed to remain.
When the boy followed the same path as her human, augmenting his body to grow stronger, Nauvis watched, and she watched the minute errors she hadn't even notice be swept away by the goddess, and then she blessed the child herself, with the minor imperfections removed the end result was even greater than it should have been with just augmentations, as everything about the child had been improved, if only slightly.
The next few years passed, the dark gods attempts grew less effective as the humans and bugs built their own countermeasures and eventually they even devised a means to leave the realm, it wasn't quite the solution Nauvis would have picked, she'd have rather killed the dark gods, but it would work nonetheless.
The sky screamed when the world was torn from the warp, but it was not her screaming, the dark gods watched with impotent rage as four of the prizes escaped.
The goddess giving herself a form wasn't really worth Nauvis's attention, yes it was interesting and she had the brief thought that she could now incarnate herself but well why would she?
Without the pressing need to defend her world Nauvis's attention became dispersed, watching each of her creatures grow, fight, and die. It was back to the relatively calm before, and the never ending war between bug and machine sprung up again.
That calm was disrupted when she felt two presences crash down on her, ignoring the fact that she was in real space. They ranted and screamed and just made a bunch of metaphysical noise, "oi planet git, you gave those four pansy gods a right good smashing you did" one of the presence was smashed by the other "and we was thinking we'd get youze a propa fight with out boiz, as a sorta welcome gift!" the hit presence lashed out and tackled the other one… somehow, before turning to say one last thing to her "our boyz are comin so you best get ready for a real propa fight!"
With that both presences tumbled away in a heap of fighting.
Nauvis decided she liked those two far more than the other four. They seemed much more her speed, you fight and grow stronger to fight more and grow even stronger. There wasn't really a better way to live. And if they weren't lying their own creations would be coming, and they'd actually be capable of fighting and growing with her own.
The only issue is that they seemed to think she wasn't always ready for a proper fight, it was a bit rude.
It wasn't long before she felt the fabric of space tear open, and fleets of the green gods' children spilled out, and already they were better than the daemons, they actually felt emotions and could learn, and they were coming to her world to fight.
The more sensitive of her creations shivered with glee, the many eyes in the oceans staring up at the stars with hunger in their gaze as the planet prepared for war. When her human started stopping the 'orks' in the atmosphere she was almost annoyed, but if they couldn't even get past her humans first line of defense they weren't worthy in the first place.
Still she couldn't say she wasn't happy as a few wrecks crashed into her world, spilling out orks who gleefully took to fighting her humans creations and the bugs. And they had far more success than the warp spawn, actually starting to craft tools and strategies to counter her creations, and they grew stronger with each fight.
They only had a fraction of their true potential though, and that fraction wasn't enough for them to establish themselves, but what few survived that first attack had learned, and much like the human had before they would grow strong enough to challenge the rest of her creatures in time.
When that green presence fell on her again she knew that this hadn't been the actual attack, it had just been a test to see if her creations had been worthy in the first place. She had not been found wanting, and so more and more orks would start arriving, in greater numbers.
How exciting!
These attacks came fairly often, and the orks that managed to survive on her surface grew ever stronger, just like the rest of her creatures. But eventually the goddess's own children arrived, not to fight which was disappointing but instead to simply speak to the healing goddess.
The humans did not attack them, and the rest of her creatures could not reach past the humans walls so Nauvis did not get to test this new life before it left, taking some odd crystals the goddess had formed in tow. Something to store and shield souls before sending them back to the goddess.
Not the most interesting, but the goddess had filled her world with a myriad of new creatures, the lack of her more intelligent creations attacking her could be excused.
Nauvis made a few of those, but she already had a firm link with all of her creatures, none of the warp spawn could wrench the souls from her grasp in the first place, so she didn't need them.
Not long after the eldar had left Nauvis felt something approaching her world through the immaterium, that same vast gold presence that had shaken the realm before. The goddess must have sensed it too as she began to hide her presence among her first humans and then within Nauvis herself.
Nauvis wondered what kind of fight this one would bring, or if she'd even get a fight out of it.
