Experiment 636
Prologue- Silence

Prologue- Silence

The silence was deafening. The quiet room would make anyone go crazy and sometimes... sometimes she'd wish for the screams to start again, just to know if she was truly alone in the darkness. The sun had never touched her skin and the wind had never flown through her hair. The cage she lived in is her only home.

She had no name, just a number. The scientists called her Experiment 636. There were others like her. Those who were also born in a cage and put through countless tests everyday.

There used to be more in the beginning, when 636 was a small child. But some didn't make it through the harder tests. The tests on the body's strength. How long it could last while undergoing pain or how much energy it could store. She watched as more and more children got dragged away in bags. Nameless faces she knew she'd never see again.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Sometimes she'd hear the cries of a kid nearby but they were usually silenced quickly. The doctors made sure of it. Only the strong would survive. There was no place for the weak here.

Footsteps echoed through the hall. One of them was approaching her cell. They did this everyday.

"Experiment 636." The doctor called out into the dark cage. 636 knew better than to keep them waiting. She dragged herself up. Hands and feet bound by chains. She was careful not to make any eye contact. Instead she watched their feet. One of the doctors was impatient. 636 observed the foot tapping against the concrete floor and knew this wouldn't take long. She held out her arms, palms up so they knew she didn't have anything. 636 felt the latex glove grab her and a few seconds later the sensation of a needle piercing her vein followed.

"Clear." They left and made their way to the next subject. 636 went back to her corner in the back of her cell, happy to be left alone.

Happy.
