Chapter 2 : Reviewing information

Chapter 2 : Reviewing information

—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nick sits at his desk writing in his notebook, stopping every few words as if to recall information that is just out of reach. After a good 10 minutes of writing, stopping to think and writing again Nick puts down his pen. ‘Insofar i can remember, these should be the most important parts’

* Our universe is now open to the multiverse

* Magic exists now in the form of ether

* I should have an understanding of my own abilities due to ether, in ‘the way i find most convenient’

* I and possibly my family have an ‘aptitude for sorcery’

* The library is a place of interest

* Ether converges in certain locations making them dangerous, or at least worthy of caution

* Certain people can travel the multiverse, one of them decided to explain all this to me for some reason

‘If I strike out the ones I can't do anything with directly I should be left with…’ Nick takes a moment to put x’s behind some of the points before finishing his thought ‘just these three!’

* I should have an understanding of my own abilities due to ether, in ‘the way i find most convenient’

* The library is a place of interest

* I and possibly my family have an ‘aptitude for sorcery’

‘Now to start from the top, what would be the most convenient way to see my own abilities so to speak?’ To start, Nick tries to focus on knowing his abilities to see if just that works.

‘My abilities, my abilities, my- This obviously isn’t working, what if i imagine an empty list? Would that work?’ Deciding to do just that, Nick imagines a piece of paper with different columns, with his name at the top of the paper and the columns having headers such as abilities, skills, afflictions. Eventually reaching something that feels just right, it seemingly solidifies in his mind leaving him with what should be his own information

‘I’m glad I finally got it to work but what is [Ether communication] and [Ether sense]? This still doesn’t add up to an intrinsic knowledge of my own abilities..’ It’s at that point that Nick’s inquiry to [Ether communication] and [Ether sense] leads to something more informative

Ether communication (Developing 15%) {Unique}

You have a connection to ether that many would envy, purely by the luck of being born to your own parents. This ability represents you being able to ask the ether around you to do something, instead of forcefully manipulating it.

Your sorcery takes less ether and less effort the more you develop this ability.

Ether sense (Developing 45%) {Uncommon}

Due to your affinity to the ether, you are able to vaguely sense the ether in yourself and your surroundings.

You can sense ether in more depth the more you develop this ability

‘Well, that is way more helpful than the last one that’s for sure. Still, this still leaves me with several questions. Why do I have these abilities? What's the difference between [Abilities] and [Skills]? What are the rarities on the abilities for? What is [Rank] and why is mine 0.5? I should note them down before I forget’ Grabbing his pen once more, Nick transcribes the new information into his notebook and writes down his questions alongside them to keep track of the information.

‘I don’t see much more to be done with this for now, not until I figure out how to develop [Abilities] and [Skills]. Should I go to the library to investigate now? I’m pretty sure it’s open on a saturday, so it can’t hurt to try’

Having decided his next course of action Nick went to the drawer in the kitchen where he kept his keys, finally finding them when he spots the family picture keychain of him, his mother and his sister that he keeps attached to his keys.

Stuffing them into his pocket, Nick heads towards the chair that he had put his coat on the night before. Having grabbed ahold of his coat he notices it's still wet from the rain he had to walk through to get from his car to the house. Wringing the coat as dry as he can get it, Nick starts to carefully put his coat on so as to not get himself wet as well.

Exiting the house Nick beelines it towards his car, narrowly avoiding a woman with a stroller that he barely saw in time. Shouting a ‘’My bad, I should pay better attention!’’ before he gets into the car.

‘Alright, now let’s see what’s so interesting about the library that even an inter-reality traveller would notice it’ Nick thinks as he starts the car, just after setting his navigation to his local library
