Chapter 7: The Selection List

Chapter 7: The Selection List

All of his classmates were rather happy with themselves after completing the tests with good grades.

All of his classmates had applied to the appropriate universities in accordance with the plan.

Following his family's advice, Abhimanyu enrolled in a military university in order to fulfill his dream of joining the military and serving his country.

Aarav went to Delhi University for his higher studies since it was his dream to be in the capital city of India.

Karthik went to Uttarakhand at his home town to live with his relatives and applied for admission in Uttarakhand University.

While Bharat and Pallavi applied for Rajgarh college as agreed upon previously before the exam so the couple used to go to the nearby park almost every day after the exam to spend time since now the exam was also over and their friends Abhimanyu, Aarav and Karthik have also gone out of station so they were missing their friends as well.

Pallavi and Bharat were eager to see the selection list when it was released on the day of the candidates who had been accepted into Rajgarh College. They were both optimistic about their chances of being accepted because the university only admits students with a minimum score of 80%. Since Pallavi had achieved 82% and Bharat had achieved 87%, they both satisfied the requirements to be admitted, and they were waiting for the college gates to open in order to view the selection list.

When the gates opened and the students went in they found the selection list of the candidates in the bulletin board. Pallavi and Bharat made their way amidst the crowd of the students at the front to see their names. Pallavi was able to see her name in the list however Bharat could not find his name in the list so he tried searching it three to four times thoroughly however to no avail he could not find his name in the selection list. Even Pallavi was astonished as to why Bharat’s name was not there in the list and she also searched thoroughly to no avail.

Pallavi said: “There must be some kind of mistake from the college administration otherwise if you are not selected then our dream to study in the same college will be over and we will be separated since it has been my dream to study in this Rajgarh college or I have to also move out with you to some other college. They must have mistakenly left out some names since if my name can be listed here then your name should also reflect because you have scored more than me. Let’s check with the administration once.”

Bharat said: “Yes, let's meet up with the college principal once, however you do not have to come with me to the principal office since from tomorrow our first semester is going to be started and you have to prepare yourselves and buy the college uniforms and books so you can go. Let me handle this matter myself.”

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

So both of them went their separate ways and Bharat went to the administrative wing of the college in the principal office and asked for the permission to enter and went in.

Principal Mam said: “Take a seat and tell me if you have any queries regarding the admission process or fees structure.”

Bharat sat down on one of the seats in front of the office desk and then said: “Mam as per the admission norms the students who have scored more than Eighty percent marks are eligible to get admission in this university and I have scored Eighty Seven Percent still my name is not reflecting in the selection list. I have applied in a timely manner and have met all the selection criteria. Please assist Mam.”

Principal Mam said: “Sure please provide me the acknowledgement slip and enrollment number through which you have applied.

Principal mam took the details and checked on her desktop computer on the record files and found that Bharat’s school record was good and he was an intelligent and smart boy along with almost all the criteria were met by Bharat to get admission in the university however she did not know the reason due to which Bharat’s application was rejected which was due to the sanctions which were put on his father so then she made a few phone calls in her contact to know why there were the sanctions.

Then she found that the restrictions were actually put by the crime lord of the Rajgarh Town himself who was also known as the Tiger Bhai who had several companies and NGOs running on his name and besides the NGOs and companies he also used to perform all kinds of illegal activities covertly in the underworld which almost everyone knew in Rajgarh Town. If Bharat gets the chance to get admission in Rajgarh College then the college may get shut down due to the pressure from Tiger Bhai since Tiger bhai also had a share in financing this college.

She was the Principal of the university and she would never like to let go of such a bright student however she also had to keep in mind the interest of the college since if due to one student the whole college is shut down then that will be unfair to other students so for the greater good she had to make a decision. After reviewing the details for around ten minutes she spoke to Bharat.

Principal said: “Bharat you are a good student and a good person overall, based on my review of your academic records and background checks. There have been no instances of misbehavior at your school, and your family history is also good. However, since your father is currently facing legal repercussions, we are unable to select you for this college. According to college policies, if a candidate or any member of their immediate family is subject to any court cases, criminal cases, sanctions, or regulatory laws, we must notify the candidate and they must comply in order to preserve the college's reputation.”

Principal Mam's remarks were like bombs being dropped on Bharat. His father was one of his role models, so he was unaware of the sanctions his father had been placed under. For a while, he was too shocked to speak to Principal Mam about it, and his mental state was off after learning of the sanctions. As a result, he excused himself so he could go home and speak with his father directly.
