3) Evolution

Hey guys! It’s Damatu, here with a new release. I’m am still working on DIVE, but I wanted to see what it would be like to write someone that isn’t a total douche canoe. Thus Entity. I am planning on posting rapidly, but we will have to see about that. Hope you guys like it! Let me know what you think in the comments. I hope to continue to improve my ability to write all sorts of works until I can actually become a published author. This is one step towards my world domination!

The plan I made wasn’t easy to do. I could only manipulate the rat I was part of. As soon as I left Silver, he would attack anything else in the vicinity. That wasn’t a good way to convince anyone they were brainwashed.

While I was trying, and failing, to stop the other rats from going down the tunnel, I learned something. Silver had been hiding some abilities from me. Probably not intentionally, I didn’t even know if a rat could have secrets.

The silver rat was attacked while I tried to communicate with the other rats. One slash of its claws caught my attention. At first I thought I was seeing things, but it happened repeatedly. Whenever the rat got wounded enough, it used something like a special move.

The special move was really cool! When the rat did the claw attack while injured, the claws emitted a sort of white light. The claws hurt the rat, but the light seemed to dig into the exact place that Silver’s claws hit. It seemed a lot like a game, but I had basically given up on figuring out if it was or not.

After the first few attempts I gave up on communication. They were only ending in the death of the rats, and Silver cannibalizing its kin. Silver didn’t seem to really mind though.  Instead of trying convince the rats, I decided to find another exit.

I directed Silver to start digging another tunnel, but he ignored me. I tried imposing my will in it, forcing my identity to overcome the bestial nature of the rat. The rat convulsed, and fell on the floor. I felt a sudden weight surround my body.

I tried to stand up, and found that Silver responded perfectly to my will. Instead of directing it, it almost felt like I was now an actual part of that body. Walking was weird. Have you ever tried walking on all fours? Well it was less awkward, but still difficult. Humans weren’t made to walk on all fours.

I decided to try out my new body. Walking took a few minutes to get used to, but running came almost immediately after. For some reason I instinctively understood how to use the claw attack. Just by picturing ‘my’ claws extending, as I made an attack, the light claws would activate.

A new attack has been added to your Ability and Spell List: Light Claw.

Light Claw is a basic attack that consumes mana. It makes a cut or scratch caused by claws dig in deeper.

Even though I didn’t have a mana bar, I was limited to how many times I could use it. Four was the limit. Even if I kept trying repeatedly, it would take about fifteen minutes to be able to regain one use. But I could only use up to four. After that I would pass out and wake up later. Every time that happened. I was passed out a lot that day. The more I used, the more tired I got.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

After getting a handle on my ‘mana capacity’ I went to work. My plan wasn’t very nice, but I could at least stop the slaughter, hopefully. I was going to attack the mother, and drag her health down. The blue box said that weaker animals were easier to possess.

If I weakened her, and took over her body, I could either stop having the babies, or I could at least tell them not to go to the slimes. At least that was the plan. If that failed I had no other way to actually do anything about the situation.

After waiting for any hour, and taking down another rat to fully heal myself, I prepared myself for the battle to come. I walked around the oblivious rat egg laying female. The best place to attack from would probably be her face, but getting up their was a problem.

I’d have to climb on her to do it, but would anyone let someone else climb all over them as they gave birth? Probably not. Still I had to try. I placed a paw on her to step up. Suddenly the rat started trembling uncontrollably. I tried to still him, but like I said it was uncontrollable.

He suddenly started running towards the tunnel with the slimes. I felt my body getting pushed back out. Instead of letting it happen, I pushed against the rat. I was not going to have to go through getting control of it again.

I made myself stick as close as possible to it, enough that I would have suffocated it had I still had my body. Right before it left the exit, it stopped. I had gained control again. It was getting harder and harder to control this rat.

It actually felt like the time the rat evolved. The rat’s body began to scream in pain. The muscles spasmed, and started to bulge. I realized what was happening. It was evolving again! I forced Silver to go through the exit. He obeyed even though he could barely control his body.

I passed out, but just for a moment. When I came to, I was still in the rat. His body was bigger than before. About twice the size. Oh God, if I made it stay in that tunnel… I didn’t finish the graphic thought.

Silver had the same color fur, but his claws had grown to about the size of a human finger. In comparison to a human, the rat probably would have come up to about halfway up the calf. Not enormous, but it was huge for a rat.

I felt myself slide back into the upgraded rat without problems.

You have successfully possessed the rank 2 creature: Giant Rat.

For possessing a rank 2 creature, you will find it much easier to possess any rank 1 creature. Possessing rank 2 creatures is now slightly easier.

What’s a rank 2 creature? Obviously even an Elite Dungeon Rat was only rank 1.

Everything that was happening was going over my head. All I knew was that I felt some insatiable hunger, and the need to follow the trail the slimes took. I decided to give in to the impulse instead of fighting it. There were no slimes that I could see, so I thought it was safe enough. I headed that way, needing to know what made me yearn to follow so much.
