Six looked at the still body of the Halfling and breathed. Did he really just do that? Yes, yes he did. He looked to Charles and Denny. The kid seemed completely at ease with what he just did but Denny looked sad. Just barely but Six could see it on his lips. Oh well, the fucks shouldn’t have tried to steal from him. He knew they were dangerous now and later but was that really justification for killing them like this? Everything he knew from the previous world said no but if he was to survive encounters like these he would have to learn from this world. Fuck around and find out.
As Denny led them back to the river Six checked his prompts.
Analyze, Athletics, Earth Magic, Polearms, and Heavy Armor all went up by one. He also leveled from that battle so he brought up his stat sheet.
Not much had changed except for the massive amount of skills he now had. It was somewhat satisfying looking at them all. He had six attribute points to invest and seven skill increases to apply. He knew it was foolish to hold onto them but at this point in his growth he was gaining levels in skills everyday. Perhaps one day when he hit a plateau he would use them but not until then. His attribute increases though? He needed to distribute those right away.
He put two into constitution, two into strength and one into dexterity and luck, bringing those stats to 48, 17, 10, and 23 respectively.
Constitution because he was still focused on tanking as well as it theoretically synergizing with blood casting, he shouldn’t need mana regen, he should be able to min max somewhat in this fashion. Two points in strength would help him kill his enemies and would help him in terms of overall work capacity, especially when combined with his stamina regen. One into Dexterity so his body would be mobile alongside the strength. He always took care to train his range of motion back on Earth and he didn’t want to neglect his flexibility here. The last point in luck because… he had been lucky since arriving and it wouldn’t hurt to encourage some more fortuitous opportunities.
They came back through the trees to the slaughter they made being cleaned up by Alison’s people. Six looked around for his finger but… wait… there it was. He picked it up and looked around for Kali Kik, she might be able to help him.
Leoka stood by Alison, she looked uncomfortable, staring at the corpses of Amog’s men.
“You killed them?” Alison asked.
“Yup,”
“Did you learn anything?”
“Yea.”
“Tell me what you learned?”
“Later tonight? I have to finish training with Denny.”
“Its ok Six, You can take the rest of the day. Talk with Alison.”
“No Denny, I can’t. There is a fucking douchenozzle out there who is periodically robbing people and I don’t have any patience for this. I need to be ready if that asshole ever comes knocking.”
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Denny looked tired but inclined his head. “I understand, it's good that you understand too.”
Six nodded at Alison, “Come find me later, I will be working outside my tent.”
She looked unsatisfied but she agreed.
Six quickly found Kali Kik who helped him reattach his pinky and then he, Charles, and Denny overtook the vanguard and began to scout. Six applied himself even harder now, and the skill levels in Athletics, Herbalism and Survival were evidence of that.
That night Alison found him seated before his dope ass tent. He had already completed his visualizations, no longer only in enchanting but his magic casting, glaive work and just his general competence in moving in his armor.
She approached during the middle of the first enchantment attempt of that night but did not seek to break his attention anymore than that. Still her presence was a weight on his focus, a ripple in the stream he tried to gently pour. It was her intention that drew his mind away from its task, the expectation of communication.
He finished the sword he enchanted and placed it aside, it was not his weapon, it was the weapon of a villager and he would deliver it later. Six told Alison of what the Halfling said about Amog and she darkened. He told her about Kali Kik’s warning and she sighed.
“Are you going to leave us too?”
He nodded. “I was never part of this.”
“We could help each other. You’re strong. You’re tough. No one heals like you do and you are growing extremely fast. We would be stronger with you and you would be stronger with us.”
“Yes yes,” he waved her words away. “Apes strong together and all that. Being part of a group forces you to compromise with what you want. I’d rather not lose control over myself. No offense but I don’t want you to be my boss or chieftain or whatever. I am my boss, no one else.” He didn’t want that burden. “We can’t speak of this again, really beating a dead horse here and it's getting repetitive and boring.”
She drew in a quick breath and centered herself. “Regardless, thank you for what you are doing Six. We all appreciate it.”
He nodded at her and she left him to his craft.
