Sunny’s POV

“I’m so excited big sis” You cannot believe how excited I am right now. Thinking of how I’ll be able to meet my mom and my new small brother later today, I cannot help but smirk. Damn it!  Why can’t this damn horse move any faster?

Ever since mom wrote us a letter informing us that we had a new small brother, I had always wanted to meet him. However, since both big sis and I were in the middle of our courses at school, we were unable to leave. It would be unfitting for us as the princesses to just leave school abruptly, after all. As the princesses of the kingdom we have to maintain some level of standard and set an image for the others to follow.

Since we both couldn’t leave, we decided to go all out and compress two years’ worth of study into one. For that, we had completely dedicated ourselves to studying this year so that next year, we’ll be able to spend some time at home.

While what we did may not have been possible for other people, it was for us because big sis and I are smart. What? Even though I may act like this, I am a certified brainy, you know?

And so, after having spent a whole year in school, in suspense of meeting my small brother, I am about to reach the end of my wits right now. Should someone just add a single day to this carriage ride, I’m afraid I’ll lose my mind. I already am. Why does this carriage have to move this slowly?

Even big sis seems a bit restless. While she may act all cold and uncaring to others, I know that she loves and cherishes her family. It’s just that she doesn’t seem to like to show it. I even have a feeling that at the moment, big sis is even more anxious about me.

Since we still have a few more hours on this carriage ride, the best I can do is to try and distract both big sis and myself by talking. The good thing is that, while I may not be confident in many things, I’m confident in my ability to talk. I can talk for hours on end.

  Once we arrived at the palace, I immediately shot out of the carriage and walked to the house at a fast pace. I didn’t run because I know that big sis doesn’t like running and so she wouldn’t be able to follow behind me if I began to run.

The moment I opened the door to mom’s office, I was surprised by what I saw inside. I could tell that big sis was surprised too, because for a moment, her breathing hastened. But that was totally understandable, the sight before us was just too peculiar.

In front of us was our mother, the queen of the kingdom, hugging a white haired doll? Come on mom, I know that you can be emotional sometimes and that you easily get lonely, but still, that’s no reason for the esteemed queen to play with a doll.

Still, this is pretty weird, I can’t see small bro anywhere. Mom would obviously not leave him alone so that she could play with a doll, would she?

“Mama.”

Before, I could even finish compiling my thoughts, I heard a voice from the….doll?  This voice was so cute and lovable that it sounded out of this world. The voice was so tranquil and was spoken in a loving tone. Haha, come on brain, stop playing tricks on me like that, dolls can’t talk. Whew, must be the fatigue kicking in. Gotta go lay down after I meet small bro.

Unfortunately, when I looked to my right, I could see that big sis had a shocked expression on her face. So she had heard the voice as well, huh? Well, mom had said that small bro does look a bit different, I guess it won’t hurt to confirm.

“Come on brain, look what you’ve led me to, making me think of a doll as my small brother. I’ll get you for this one day.” I could only sigh tiresomely in my mind. It had indeed been a long day.

All my fatigue, however, was blown away the moment I picked up the doll from my mom’s embrace and turned it towards me. The thing that surprised me most was neither its shoulder length white hair, its marble white skin nor the silver linings right beneath its right eye, it was the fact that this doll was warm and breathing. It couldn’t be could it? While I was still there stuck in doubt, the affirming nod from my mom blew all those doubts away.

“Aaaw, how cute, is this our baby bro?  Is this him? He’s so cute. I’ve always wanted a baby brother, can I keep him? Can I keep him? Pleeeease?”

I just couldn’t restrain myself from pulling the boy and hugging him tightly, he was just too cute. Anyone who could resist that kind of charm just wasn’t human, or high human for that matter. Even big sis herself could not resist the charm as she immediately snatched small bro away from me and started playing with him while giving some very contradictory excuse from what she was doing herself.

“Sunny, I know that baby bro is really cute, but what would you have done had you broken him?”

I tried to resist, but mom, seeming to have seen right through us, immediately ordered for the baby back. You could easily tell that small bro was happy to be back in mother’s embrace. It makes me kind of sad that small bro doesn’t like us that much. He didn’t open his eyes even once to take a look at us. 

From what I came to learn from the conversation between big sis and mom, however, small bro is blind. While that explains a lot of questions, it also makes me kind of sad, both for him and for myself as his big sister.

Well, no use worrying about something that we can’t fix. All that I can do for him as his big sis is to help him experience fun times, shower him with love, and try to make his life as easy as possible.

And back to Dusk

After having spent one month with both his sisters, Dusk had come to verify that while Sunny’s character was exactly as he had expected, Seria’s was… different. In as much as she woud act all cold and indifferent during the day, at night she would come to his mother’s room, steal him from his mother’s embrace, and cuddle him in her bed till morning.

While Dusk loved the warmth and comfort of her embrace, he was growing tired of the comedy routine that happened every morning these days.

“Seria, where’s the baby?”

“In my bed.”

“How did he get there?”

“I have no idea mom. I think he sleep walked to my room. He has so much energy that one, hahaha.”

“Seria, stop messing around. Why would Dusk sleep walk to your room which is ten rooms away from here when he can just get into one of the closer rooms. He can’t even see at all actually for that matter.”

“Haha, just goes to show you how much love can do. But don’t blame him, it’s not his fault that he loves this big sis too much, it’s the fault of love, Love!”

“Hnggrh, fine, do what you want.”

“Thanks mom, love you.”

Of late, Dusk had been made into a scape goat. It was especially effective since he couldn’t defend himself.

And although all throughout the month, he had been increasing the number of words that he could supposedly speak, they still weren’t enough for self-defense.

At the moment, he could make a four word sentence. Passable in minor communication, but still useless in self-defense.  Apart from talking, he had also been making progress with his walking. In as much as he was the smartest person in the world, he was still inside a baby’s body. And so he had to train its muscles if he wanted to be able to walk.

He could now walk for almost ten metres without tumbling down. While that may not seem like much, it was a really big step for him as he estimated that within the next month, he would be able to walk completely.

As pertaining to his training in E.M waves, due to the large number of distractions, and the fact that he actively spent time with his mother and sisters who liked to dote on him a lot, he had not made much progress.

His range of influence had increased to a radius of roughly 3.1 kilometers.  As for his study of inanimate waves, though he had not yet managed to decipher them, he could feel that he was approaching that point.

Dusk had also been preparing a training manual for when the time came for him to him to start training his body. Dusk’s aim was not really to become a buff dude with super budging muscles and a huge body, his aim was to make his body more fast, agile and nimble because there were many benefits that came with that.

Those details, however, were for another day because today, Dusk was excited. Why was he excited? It was because, today, from what he had heard from his sisters’ conversation, he would be taken outside the palace for the first time. While he had already mentally ‘seen’ what the city looks like, nothing beats experiencing it for yourself. Who knows, maybe he would get to encounter something interesting.
