“Thank you…”
Her head bowed to me, cheeks little red. I didn’t know how to react. There were many things going on in my mind. All I could do was stare at her.
The moment she said so, I was stunned.
“What do you mean...”
I didn’t know how to react, so I ran away. I didn’t go back to the Baron estate after that for some time, but I visited her again after three days. Again, I sneakily went by the guards. But this time, I had kept more distance while looking at her.
“Looks like everything is good.”
She was doing her work as usual, without any worry on her face, but every day after that, I saw her going somewhere in her break time.
“Can it be…”
She was always there, waiting in the town square. I watched her from a distance, hidden in the shadows. I could see the hope in her eyes, the expectation. It was clear she was waiting for me.
Days turned into weeks, and the awkwardness grew.
“It’s already been two weeks. Aren’t you tired of waiting there…?”
I was looking at her from a far, with a worried look in my face. I wanted to approach her, to talk to her, but I hesitated. I was afraid of how she would react. But seeing her there, day after day, waiting for me… it gave me courage.

“Alright! I will just face it, whatever to come!”
One day, I finally decided to face her. I stepped out of the shadows and walked towards her. She turned around as she heard my footsteps, her eyes widening in surprise as she recognized me.
(Maybe it was a bad idea…)- I thought to myself but didn’t stop.
Looking at me approaching her, she had a smile on her face. It was a smile of joy. Looking at her smile at me like that, I was surprised.
Soon, I came and stood close to her,
“Why aren’t you scared of me?”
I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
She looked at me for a moment, her eyes thoughtful.
“Why should I be?” she finally replied.
“You helped me. That’s not something to be scared of.”
Yet again, I was stunned from what she said. All this time, people were afraid of me and my powers but now here, she’s not showing any signs of it. Rather, she thanked me.
“But… my abilities…” I started, but she cut me off.
“Your skill helped me,” she said firmly. “And that was very cool of you.”
I was taken aback by her words. I had expected fear, rejection, but instead, I found acceptance. I didn’t know how to respond, so I simply nodded, a small smile playing on my lips.
She slowly felt embarrassed, scratching her head,
“Although, I was startled at first, but your unique skill helped me!”
. . .
At that moment, I realized something. She completely mistook my ability as my unique skill.
(Crap) That’s the first thing came to my mind. For the first time, someone accepted me for who I am but was mistaken about my abilities. I didn’t know what to do, but when I looked at her, the words that came out from my mouth were,
“My name’s Kai. What about you?”
“Oh! Right, my name is Lila! Nice to meet you, Kai!”
“Same here, Lila.”
I smiled, looking at her in the eye as we introduced each other. From that day forward, our relationship began. We were no longer just two strangers living in the same town. We were friends, and perhaps, in time, we would become something more. But for now, I was content with this new development. I would continue to help her, to protect her, all while keeping my true powers a secret.
