“I’m tired…”
“I can’t find the end to it…”
I was running, somewhere in a dark place. Nowhere to see any form of light. It felt as if I had been running for an eternity. I didn’t know where I was going.
Suddenly, I found myself standing in the middle of a dark room, the air heavy with an ominous silence. The darkness was so thick, it felt as if it were swallowing me whole. I could feel a chill creeping up my spine, a sense of dread settling in my heart.
“What is this place?”, I asked myself. While looking around for any source of exit but it resulted as a failure.
Suddenly, the silence was broken by the sound of footsteps. I looked towards the source of sound.
“Huh?”
I didn’t know what was coming at me. One by one, figures began to emerge from the shadows, their faces twisted into masks of fear and disgust. They formed a circle around me, their accusing eyes boring into my soul.
“What is all this?” I asked looking at them.
But they just kept coming. I started to get scared, my legs shaking.
“What is happening?”
No one answered to that yet again. But suddenly, one figure came forward. I looked up to it, thinking I would get some idea of this place. The figure stopped midway and I heard,
"Freak..."
The word hung in the air, a harsh whisper that cut through the silence. I was stunned hearing that word. Suddenly, few more came forward. They stood in the same way, each started to add few more words of their own.
"Monster... You should have never been born..."
Another voice joined in, the word echoing around the room like a death knell. The voices grew louder, the words more venomous.
"You're a curse... A blight upon this world..."
“STOP!!
WHY ARE YOU ALL CALLING ME THAT!?!?”
I tried to defend myself, to shout back at them,
“Huh...? My…voice…”
But my voice was lost in the sea of accusations. I felt a crushing weight on my chest, as if the words were physical blows. I fell to my knees, the cruel chorus of voices still ringing in my ears.
“Stop… Stop it! STOP IT!!”
The figures started to increase, covering everything in darkness and soon consumed me and my voice in its depth. I felt being chocked, slowly losing my breathe. I still struggled to get free but all attempts failed, and so I gave out…

I woke up with a start, my heart pounding in my chest, covered in sweat. I realized it was a nightmare. I took some time to catch my breath, came out of my bed and drank some water. The remnants of the nightmare clung to me, the words still echoing in my ears. I sat up, rubbing my face with my hands, trying to shake off the dream.
“It’s all in the past. Now it’s different.”
I looked out of the window, towards the sky, looking at the stars,
“It’s all different now…”
After some time, I thought of heading back to sleep. Trying not to recall the dream, I started to look around my room.
The room was dimly lit by the moonlight filtering through the small window. The distant hooting of an owl was the only sound breaking the silence of the night. My eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness, and my gaze fell on the small pendant lying on the table.
For a few minutes, I stared at it. I started to recall back, thinking what happened after I suddenly ran away from that girl.
After running a safe distance away, I found myself unable to shake off the worry for the girl I had just saved.
"What if she's hurt?", I thought to myself.
"What if more bandits show up?"
Unable to shake off my worries, I decided to go back, promising myself that I would only watch from afar.
As I neared the scene of the confrontation, I slowed down, moving as quietly as I could. The moonlight filtered through the trees, casting long shadows on the ground. I hid behind a tree and peered out.
The girl was gone. The bandits lay unconscious on the ground, their bodies sprawled in awkward positions. Relief washed over me, followed by a pang of disappointment.
"She's safe... but gone", I whispered to myself.
I sighed, turning around to leave, when something caught my eye. A small object was glinting in the moonlight, lying a few feet away from where the girl had been cornered. Curiosity piqued; I approached it.
“Hmm… What is that thing?”, I went ahead and took a clear look.
It was a pendant, delicate and beautiful. I picked it up, the cool metal sending a shiver down my spine. I held it up to the moonlight, watching as the light danced off its surface.
"This must be hers", I murmured.
I closed my hand around the pendant, a sense of determination filling me.
"I will find her, return this pendant, and make sure she's safe", I vowed to myself.
The same pendant that the girl had dropped when she was cornered by the bandits. I had found it and kept it with me ever since. Recalling that moment, I remembered having a glance of her face.
After beating those bandits, I looked back to make sure she was alright. Maybe her hood fell off while I took those bandits down. Under the celestial dome of the night, I saw her clearly. Her hair, a cascade of golden waves, glowed like a moonlit waterfall. Her eyes, as blue as the midnight ocean, twinkled with an inner radiance that seemed to outshine the stars themselves. I was spellbound, mesmerized by her ethereal beauty. A sense of wonder enveloped me, leaving me breathless. In that moment, under the celestial glow, I realized she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. My heart echoed the rhythm of the night as I admired her, a vision of beauty that would forever be imprinted in my memory.
I almost didn’t know what to do next, but just at that moment, I realized I used my powers. So, without looking back I went on ahead.
“She was really beautiful…”
I gasped,
“What am I thinking….”
In an attempt to divert my thoughts, I shook my head, as if physically trying to dislodge the image of her from my mind. It was a futile gesture, like trying to shake off a shadow. Her image was etched into my memory, as vivid and as real as the night sky above. But I had to try. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and focused on the sounds of the night, the cool breeze against my skin, anything but her. Slowly, with each shake of my head, I felt my mind starting to shift, pulling away from her image and back to the reality of the world around me. It wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. For in that moment, I needed to find my own light amidst the starlit sky.
“She lives in a different world than I do…”
“A normal world.”
I got silent for sometime but soon went back to sleep. I had only one thought at that time.
“I will return her pendant back and that’s the end.”
With that, I went to sleep.
