Volume 1, Chapter 29: Metamorphosis

“Luke! Why?!” The cry of a young girl echoed. A monster had slowly crept up on the girl as she burrowed herself in a corner, crying and shivering. The monster had stopped, reared its legs, and

“AHHHH…”

Luke woke with a freight. Looking around, he could see he was still in the carriage and the sky was still a starry filled night; it was as if only a moment had passed.

“Awake? Good, we’re almost there.” As he finished, the carriage came to a halt.

Hopping out of the wagon, he watched as Jade handed Elizabeth over to the pudgy man.

“Monty will put the princess in her place. Luke, you will follow me.”

It was only when Luke’s eyes drifted away from Jade that he noticed they had stopped in front of a giant tower. Making their way inside, the pair passed by doors, one on each side of the hall, before heading up stairs. The two continued to ascend until they had reached the roof of the tower. In the middle of a garden, radiating a red light bright enough to paint the nearby garden in a hellish red, was an orb.

“You see that? That is your reward.”

Luke hadn't heard him, instead he was captivated by the floating ball that beckoned him forward. Once he was within arms reached, he grasped it in both hands, bringing it to his chest. Slowly, it sunk into his heart, letting the surrounding area going dark. When Jade snapepd his fingers, light had flooded the top of the tower, causing the boy to wake from his dreary state.

“Well Luke, how do you feel?”

Still dazed, Luke nodded. Squinting through the blinding light, he could make out lanterns hanging on top of the garden fence.

“I feel, strange.”

Without thinking, Luke held out his hand, a spearing forming in his grasp.

“A spear?”

“Ah yes, you absorbed the power of Envy. Envy was a powerful being who could grant themselves whatever wish they desired using this spear.”

The weapon was a fairly standard looking spear, the only notable aspect being the bush below the spearhead.

“So I can grant myself a wish? What should I wish for?”

“Anything your heart desires. Money, food, love, even more power.”

“You could even wish to be a girl! Think of all the people you could prank!”

Luke and Jade had turned their attention to Monty who was now standing at the top of the staircase. Jade had sneered at the man, but Luke was snickering.

“Could I actually do that?” The boy asked Jade.

“If that is what you wish for, I see no reason the spear wouldn’t grant it.”

Luke looked at the spear in his hand before holding it aloft. “I wish to be a girl.”

The spear began eminating a purple hue before the light quickly dissipated. Just as Luke was about to open his mouth, vines sprouted from the ground and latched around his shoes, anchoring his feet to the floor. From all directions large petals had slammed into the boy, trapping him in bulb. To make matters worse, the tiredness from earlier had returned ten-fold.

“What’s happening?!”

“You’re getting your wish. Don’t panic, just remember to come visit down stairs when you wake up.”

Luke tried to break out of the floral prison and reach for Jade, but his arms wouldn’t budge, and his eyes wouldn’t listen to him when he demanded they remain open. In panic, tears rolled down his eyes.

"I'm sorry Matt, I'm sorry Elizabeth."

With his last breath, the boy perished.
