Chapter 10: The Yard

Chapter 10: The Yard

Whoa! That’s a big expansion! I have the second floor available now, another rat den up there and two more places for spiders to spawn from, also a new minion! Bats! See the second floor here is like an attic, it slopes to a top and doesn’t seem to have anything between the roof and outside besides some wood. I may have to see about having renovations done to add insulation for the kiddos.

That’s not all, I can see my yard! A lot of my yard at that, feeling it out it seems to be about an entire acre of land, and some holes in the ground. Oh no do I have moles? No, it’s another new minion, foxes! Oh I love foxes! They’re just so cute, now how do I get these to start spawning- oh a bat came out on its own? Seems like the only thing I have to manually spawn is my little avatar guys, the ones that specialize and get names. So let’s spawn some.

Bats first seeing as I already have two of them fluttering around, I want someone to direct them. ‘Bat unassigned’ you’ll be my scout. ‘Bat scout’ now he just needs a name, okay so this may be a joke only I’ll ever understand but your name will be Bruce. Hehe at least I’ll get a kick out of him for a while. Now for my foxes, seems I have a few of those now too, seems to be the usual red fox, orangish fur and whatnot. So let’s spawn the avatar and- oh she’s pretty, silver fur and blue eyes ‘fox unassigned’ yeah yeah, let’s have her be my mage. I think it’s about time to mess with magic a bit ‘fox mage’ now for a name, I have just the thing, Luna.

Okay so that’s it for the avatars and minions, so let’s see about- oh is my mama going up faster? What’s that about? Ah seems my foxes have found the newest vermin, you know with the new guys size I should change it. Let’s just go with the basics and just call them enemies. The newest enemy is squirrels, those might be dangerous if we let them inside, oh and is that a Pigeon? Bats! Intercept the pigeons! Good job, drag them down if you’re having any issues and get a fox or rat to help. Might have to see about having spider ride the bats for some sort of air troopers.

Looking back toward the building I notice it’s on top of a hill, unfortunate really, I was hoping for more flat land to make a maze or maybe a farm of some sort if I can do that. I really should look closer at the second floor, I was a bit too hasty to see the yard. Focusing back on the other new area I find six large bedrooms and two- bathrooms? They’re on either end of the hall and are a simple room reminiscent of a port-a-potty with only a seat and a hole that looks to lead straight outside to the yard, ew.

First things first I really need to see if I can fix up the house somehow. What if I just focus on the house as a whole- oh what’s that? Upgrade house? Oh geez that’s a lot of mana. It’s going to take me a minute to get that back but it’s nothing if it gets the kids a better place to live. I accept.

You know when it’s really hot and you can see the air shifting really weird distorting whatever’s behind it? Yeah that’s what this looks like, but with a whole building. It slowly shifts and soon it refocuses. It doesn’t look very different to be honest, seemed like a bit much for- oh wait the wood isn’t as rough and there’s some sort of stone as the floor in the basement now! Man I’m glad I moved before I did that, what about the rooms on the first floor? Well as to that the kitchen no longer has a mushroom node as that seems to have been moved to the basement and the wood node is gone entirely, kinda sad but the kids now have a proper place to eat instead of on the floor.

The second floor is even better seeing as each of the bedrooms now have two sets of bunk beds in them and the best part is the bathrooms are now actual bathrooms! With some sort of rudimentary plumbing for the toilets but it’s better than it just dropping on the ground outside. They also have tubs to clean themselves in and a window with a pulley system to bring the water to it. We getting fancy up in here.

Tiara doesn’t even bother asking what happened as her and the other kids are too busy exploring the new house and a few are jumping on the beds. I notice panzer walking around and realize he’s now bigger than any dog I’ve seen and is almost the size of a pony. Come on big guy let’s go outside before you’re too big to get through the door. He quickly scurries outside and sits on his haunches, he’s acting more and more like a dog. He seems to be keeping guard over the house for me, good rat.

Let’s put up a few new things, I am a dungeon after all. I only have the one chest and some nodes, I need something more than that to incentivize people to come give me my sweet sweet mana. I leave a few chests around outside, I want to keep the stuff inside just for the kids. I can’t seem to move the original chest, maybe because I didn’t create it? But I can ask the kids to move it for me sometime when they’re strong enough.

Tommy and Sara are outside hunting the new enemies with the foxes and it seems widow took my idea to heart and is doing her best to wrangle a bat to ride. She’s grown a bit too but not nearly as much as panzer, who I just realize has been joined by James. They both just seem to be standing guard and taking care of and enemies that come too close. Luna is rallying the foxes for me and she seems to be able to use some sort of fire magic. That’s interesting, I do need to experiment with magic a bit more. How does one get mana? And how do you make spells?

I try focusing in on one of the other kids, Iselna was her name, a human girl and as I’m wondering how to get a magician out of one of the kids a new option appears. ‘Imbue with mana’
